Rabbits belong to the (family? species?) Leporidae.
How can this be used to call the dwellers of this planet by a name?
Maybe call them “Harveys”? (but everyone can see them)

And it may not matter if YOU’VE chosen a side in the
Core/Empire war, a side has been chosen for you.

      The Lepori maybe?

    • Bill Mullins
      June 15, 2023, 06:44 | #

Judging by their ears, Harvey and Eitha might more properly be hares.
Hares’s ears are longer and narrower than rabbits’. If they are hares,
then “Lepus” (Latin for “hare”) would be a valid name for an
individual and would also work for a collective reference. Continuing,
the planet’s name could be “Lepua”. The inhabitants could be referred
as either “Lepus” or possibly “Lepuans”. Whatever the formal
designation, back in the Empire Harvey and Eitha’s people are likely
to be referred to as “Bunnies” on Terra and “Rabbits” on Catia. Oh,
and despite treating the Lepua with respect, i suspect that Cats in
their heart of hearts, will harbor a bit of disdain for the Lepus
(Lepua?) since Cats are predators while Lepus are definitely prey
animals. I cannot see how a sapient carnivore could truly respect a
prey species. But this is just my 1.5 cents.

Not fair Alex got an official course about women. Trial & Error
        for the rest of us sometimes really front loads on the Error part :}

For a treatment of sapient Predator / Prey clashes, might want to
try The Nature Of Predators, by /u/SpacePaladin15, beginning at

Eh, we had this conversation back when Alex etc. was introduced,
I made the comment that anyone that had that kind of training
would need a very experienced woman to make him happy…
I think Cissy can handle that part, don’t you? PC thought it out
and this scenero, works for both. Plus they both care for a great
deal for each other, so it’s easier to enjoy their initmet times better.

Which bunny is speaking in panel 8?

    • Scarsdale
      June 15, 2023, 03:36 | #

I’d say Eitha, Harvey is bent down reaching for something
if I know anything, it’s hard to speak clearly when you’ve
got a paunch and leaning down that low 😉

      • Bill Mullins
        June 15, 2023, 06:19 | #

I think it was Harvey. He seems to be the leader of the two and
has done almost all the talking. The only time Eitha has spoken
was to ask if the Empire would honor their wish to be left alone.

Heh, I love talking with a would be-hubby, they always over-think things.
Poor Alex, at some point he may have to clue Cissy in about his job.

That is a solid point, the core is petty enough to go after innocents
just to vent their rage, and the weak chance of getting intel.
The rabbits need the help from the Empire, now more than ever.

Well I finally have a date set for surgery on my eyes. My eyes have been going bad for years with
both cataracts and age-related macular degeneration in both eyes. I’ve been waiting for a couple
of years for the VA to decide my eyes have gotten bad enough. Even once my regular eye Doc said
my eyes were bad enough back in early May, it still too 5 weeks before I could get to see an
Ophthalmologist in the facility where the surgery is going to be performed. After that doc signed off
they did a shit ton of measurements. Then I had to come back 2 weeks later (yesterday, 6/14/23) to
actually get the surgery scheduled. It turns out the surgeon only operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays
and the first opening wasn’t for another 6 weeks on 7/25/23. My eyes are getting so bad! I have
almost no vision in the dark and sometimes it’s hard to read because somebody has been turning
the contrast way down. When I come inside from being out in bright sunshine I have to turn on
lights to be able to see to navigate. I figure it will be October before I’ve gotten both eyes done
and my eyes will have healed. The good news is that I will probably only need reading glasses
after everything is all done. {sigh} When I was 19 I passed a military pilot physical. That is the
toughest eye test on the planet. I could read signs on the highway that other people could
barely see. No more. But now comes the wait and it’s hard to be patient. You know?

Yeah, it was a shock when I had to get my eyes done back in 2016, I was 56
and it was a shock to find out I didn’t need new glasses. Plus I had the macular
degeneration starting in my left eye. A shot in that eye and 2 new lens put in
i just need over-the-counter readers to read my monitor. My father however,
has to have a shot in his right eye monthly and I’ve been trying to get him to
have the cataract surgery, he hates the idea of it even though I keep telling
him it doesn’t hurt, mostly makes your eye itch but you can’t rub it.

A shot in the eye for MD? Is yours the wet or the dry (typical age
related) variety? Mine is just age related. I will be just shy of
72 when I have the 1st procedure. I am taking a multivitamin that
is supposed to slow things down. The brand name is “Preservision”.
I’m taking a Sam’s Club equivalent. Half the cost. You know?

        • Scarsdale
          June 15, 2023, 18:35 | #

Mine was dry, my father’s is wet and they have to keep up the shots or it
comes back. The eye shot I and my father had was done by a specialist,
they use a numbing drop to numb the eye, sterilize around the eye then
it’s a stick in the side of the eye, you barely feel it. Kinda like the shock you
get when you use a medicated drops, like for pink eye. More of a burning
          feeling.
The actual surgery for cataracts they use a strong tranquilizer, you’re awake
but not really aware, when you come out of it, it feels like you got a couple of
eyelashes stuck in the eye socket. takes about 7-10 days for that feeling to
go away mostly, a month and you forget about it. You might be sensitive to
sun light, I HAVE to wear sun glasses, it hurts and everything turns red quickly.
If you can, get the multi-focal lens, medicare only covers the mono-focal, that’s
why I have to use reading glasses.

No chance of anything but basic lenses for me, I’m afraid, since
it’s through the VA. Nothing but the best for us vets, right? I
guess I can’t complain. Medicare wouldn’t pay for anything better.
I’ve been wearing glasses since.’85. Only needing readers would
be an improvement. I took my Momma to have hers done so I
know what to expect. I’m the same age as she was.

Don’t feel bad about wearing glasses Bill, I got my first
              pair when I was 8, yes I was a 4-eyes in school…
Glad you know, but it does help to have input. My father
keeps getting the “willies” any time I talk to him, and
my mother had hers done when she was 74.

Can you restore it? I was explaining to Bill about what to expect
and hopefully relieve any concerns for him. I really don’t know why
I had cataracts at that age, other than working in that factory for
years and operating a hot mold press for a year before that. I’m
sure fighting fires didn’t help, even with my gear it got HOT!

all i do in edit,, is ‘format an spelling’.
oh, an add ‘link’ if needed..

Preservision is one of the brands they told my father to use post shots,
they want to try and stop giving him the eye shot so often. His is bad,
he couldn’t read the biggest “E” on the eye chart. Now he can get to the
          5th line down from that.

      Bill –
Prayer for all successful outcomes for every step of the way.
My O.D. says I have started a cataract in my (R) eye.
I have not have much good luck with my VA – so may opt for
      the commercial/Medicare site they offer.
They said I do not have to wait till it is “fully ripe”.
      Scarsdale –
Thnx for the news – I have had eyelid reduction surgery (2013)
and flinched so much they had to further sedate me.
Reckon I will seek more info.
      Yeah, pretty scary for me.

Thanks, mine was so far advanced for my age everything was dim and hard to see.
I’d say it’s best if anything is done to the eye that a strong tranc is used, it’s almost
impossible to hold still enough for the doctors.

Both my wife and I have had cataract surgery with IOL.
And have had excellent results. I only need reading glasses.
This is after a lifetime of wearing glasses.
Yes they do a boat load of tests. The only thing you’re likely
to feel is some pressure. Also because they give drugs that
stop the movement of all mussels around the eye don’t
worry about moving. Now the MD I have no experience with.
I expect you will be happy with the results post recovery.

Did either of you get the sensitivity to sunlight like my mother and I did?
Hers was so bad she wore brazing level glasses, I can get by with UV blocking
DG ones. Seems that the “color-enhancing” aspect works a little too well.
That does work pretty well, after I had the surgery I looked up on a clear
night and for the first time ever, I could see that the sky wasn’t just black
with points of light O.O! I can’t bare to use or look at a UV light either.

Your milage may very. My wife needs sunglasses out side in the daytime,
and on a bright clear day I need to use them. But true be told, I probably
should have been using them before the operation.

Had a thought for future reference. We have already seen hints at possible FTL travel that didn’t
involve wormhole gates. What if a scientist from one of the other non-core allied races figures
out how to use the Empire’s grav drive tech to open artificial wormhole gates? In the real world
wormholes are thought (they’re only theoretical at this time) to be an interaction between
spacetime and extreme gravitational forces. I’m thinking one of the allied/aligned races
(Ptera? Amphibs?) figures out how to use a very strong, focused grav field to allow a ship to
“jump” over a chunk of distance in essentially zero time.

PC? Anybody? What do you think?

    • Scarsdale
      June 16, 2023, 15:16 | #

      That’s what I’ve been saying about the grav-tech, it’s a strong possibility.
Like in star trek, the “warp bubble” that they use warps space around the
ship by increasing the gravity in front of the ship, getting around the light
      speed issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZset72bHLI talks about
this at length. It will require a great deal of energy to create, but the math
seems to work out. PC’s grav drives gets around that issue, but is it enough?
I don’t think it will be just one race, but the collection of minds from many of
      the races to do it!
