Gopi would have a better life and help in Jerico,
may counseling with Lessa to start, and training
with Kathy would make a huge difference in her
life.
Hmmm… Perhaps that medivac would be better
suited with the legion, sounds like they deserve
some of that luxury.
Panel 4 – Gopi’s gonna wake up and her arm’s going to
be asleep unless she pulls it out from under Miral.

Dang, PC. The wisdom your characters impart sometimes.
Miral is right; as long as Gopi stays where all the
abuse occurred, she’ll always be reminded of it.
And Emil & Levi recognize that they can never repay what
they were gifted (life), nor repay the sacrifice it cost,
but they also recognize that they can try to pay it forward.
I feel….ashamed. All along, I thought that Emil’s gift
was a grift. Instead, it’s a truly heartfelt attempt to
give thanks for a debt that can never be fully repaid.
Pass the Kleenex. And the humble pie.
Remember the sacrifice of those who have
died in defending the freedoms of others.
(You timed it this way on purpose, didn’t you, PC?)
Don’t feel bad, man. Apparently the story has evolved in PC’s head
since he first conceived it. He asked if I might be interested in
building a luxury pax module for use on a locust but IMS I declined
because I was deep in the freighters. The story arc as he sketched
it was about somebody building a fancy pax module to give to
Theresa to use as advertisement. The tale we have now is totally
different. Theresa’s response is the same as PC sketched – she
eschews anything ostentatious – but the motivation for building
the transport is different. Additionally, IMS, the only fancy part was
to be the pax module. Here PC has pimped out the whole locust.
In truth, Bill, I started the story exactly like that.
But as I fleshed out Emil’s character,
he became more of an artiste’ who got carried away by
his enthusiasms, one who would never be that cynical.
Don’t. There is good in the world, but the bad is often so blatant,
it can shadow the purist of intentions. So often these days,
we see so much bad, mostly from the media we watch or read,
that it becomes difficult to see beyond the dark.
Sometimes, hope is all we can have.
Myself, I’ve been through two cancer operations over the last
two years, and will be going in next month to try to repair damage
to my larynx and vocal cord. It’s been a rough road, but I still keep
on going. Life is a journey, obstacles will be there, but on the
journey, it is what you do say and give, that makes the difference
in yours, and the lives of those around you. The world is not a fair
place, but if each of us gives of ourselves, not simply take, we can
make it a better world.

This is why I use bad people mostly as sticky stuff to tie a story
together. This is my refuge from reality, as I hope it’s yours.
Reality has far too many bad people in it.
Not that there aren’t a lot of bad people in the Empire or it’s
various kingdoms… (Bad Bunny!) But their stories are usually
too mundane to be interesting, so I don’t tell them.
I don’t know about that PC… I think there are far more good people
in the world than you suspect, it’s just the bad people are either far
more blatant about it, or, due to the fact that most good people
don’t ‘crow’ about it, it just isn’t noticed as much. Life, in and of
itself, can be quite cruel, but when good people do the right thing
for the right reasons, it rarely gets noticed, unless someone points
it out, and most good people simply do the right thing and move
on, whether anyone pays attention or not. We may not notice it,
but it IS noticed by those who actually count…
I agree completely. I’ve traveled the world,
and most of the people I’ve met have been decent or better.
Although some cultures raise people to be very evil, indeed.
This is why I am so skeptical of the media, politicians,
and… others’ efforts to paint some groups as bad.
You are right, in my experience, most people aren’t bad.
But there are still too many evil people in the world.
They’re the ones we need to keep track of.
Heh, never give up or give in, after I had that accident every doctor
and nurse kept trying to convince me I was a wheelchair case, I got
so fed up with it all I checked myself out of the hospital after only
4 days and recovered at my parent’s house for the next 5 months.
I love PC’s take on the new world he’s created, the hope that the
good people would band together is one I’ve had in the back of my
mind since I was a boy. To see it written out and depicted so well
warms this old man’s hearth and gives me happiness.
