The charge of the light brigade.
Has to be one of THE MOST MONUMENTAL

Total failure of command! All those troops

        Custer’s Last Stand in a nut-shell,
although, some of the things I’ve read
about that man, if he would have survived
        he would have been court-martialed
        and shot.

But I’ve read that if the 7th Cav had had the repeating rifles the
Army tried to get after the Civil War (instead of the reliable,
frugal single-shot rifles they had) that some of the troopers might
have survived until Benteen arrived. Custer actually wasn’t a bad
field commander. He actually had his men in at least a somewhat
defensible position. Benteen wasn’t that far away. But there were
just too many Sioux, many of whom were better armed than Custer’s
men. But still bean counters were at least partially responsible
for the massacre at Little Bighorn.

if I recall, the single-shot rifles weren’t all that reliable,
mostly due to extraction problems. In many cases,
soldiers had to use their knives to remove the spent
shells, and some dead soldiers were found with spent
shells in the chamber and a knife near the rifle.

Most of the extraction problems, was not cleaning,.
as it was not a thing, at that time.!
it wasn’t until US military went ‘outside” the US.
rust and sand, they found periodic cleaning made
              other issues go away…

politicians want to fight their way..

            than you took…

I don’t know about that. I’ve read that he may have been left out to die
by some of the officers that were supposed to be reinforcing him.
Other info indicates that the terrain had a lot to do with the lack of
help being sent as they couldn’t know Custer was in trouble.
Truth be told, I’ve pretty much been of the opinion the whole situation
Was a Charlie Foxtrot from the beginning, and the cavalry was acting
on both incorrect info, and under what appears to be someone’s
deliberate attempt to cause an incident to aggravate the conflict.

really depends on who you ask.! iv’e read Custers book, his wifes,
(Libbi) the onsite reporter, the government “briefing”,
            and tribal records..
Custer made the other officers look bad,. so they really didn’t
            want to help,.
the “PTB” found gold on the land, an wanted ‘redman’ gone,.
others wanted a “War”, so they could claim “Redman Bad”,
and take all his stuff as spoils of war,.
an so on.. with the military stuck in the middle,.!

It’s so sad that she had to live with that, I think
she needs to talk to Kathy as well as counseling.

Heh, well now we get some intel from the brother
and what it was meant for. Still, I can’t see the
Legion having a use for it, so I think it’s in the
    best place for now.

My guess would be that we are SOME time after the incidents where
Romania joined the Empire (and Teresa got a ‘significant other’).
Naturally the Legion will expand into the member states/planets
        over time, therefore also Romania…
Whatever had happened to Germany is anybody’s guess…

You’re right. With her western and eastern borders secured by
friendly nations, the only dangerous border is to the north.
Since the Legion been a low-level diplomatic force as well as a
skirmish fighting force, (“It’s an invasion force? Well, fall back
and call the Marines. This is their sort of shtick, anyway.”)
Which pretty much sums up their role in the Catian Slave Revolt.
So, yes, they’re all over the Empire, as well as outside it’s
borders, teaching oppressed people how to resist tyranny.

Considering that Germany was considered to be a primary battleground
during the Cold War, I’m pretty sure that that likely happened as
part of the active conflict. Most likely, much of it was probably
left in ruins, while other parts are likely still radioactive
scorched ruins. Sadly, people who are civilians, and haven’t been
trained to handle the stress of conflict, are more likely to let
things spiral out of control, rather than trained military. Worse,
there are those in the military, even today, that think a nuclear
war is “winnable”. From what I’ve seen and studied, the second a
strategic nuke is used, it will quickly become an “Everybody Loses”
          situation…

        Gave me a start, too.
“France” and “Legion” together conjures up Beau Geste.
And I think of the Empire’s Legion as being a North American
thing, but it IS already planted on Catia, and it only make
sense that other kingdoms would use the same solution
for the same sorts of folk that Jerico (through Teresa) did.

Nowhere does it say they went from France directly into Romania.
They escaped from France, and were less than half a kilometer from
Romania when the Muslims caught up to them. Any number of
ex-countries, fiefdoms, new countries, barren zones could have been
between what was France and the new, smaller Romania.

That I know of, I’ve only ever known one child molester, a guy who
lived up the street, and that only came out after he was arrested,
tried and convicted. For abusing his own daughters. He’s in the
slammer on eighteen counts. I don’t know what the total number of
years he was sentenced to, but it’s too few if he ever gets out.

Sad thing is, most of them only get a few years in jail,
but in many cases the other inmates find out, it won’t
matter. I have a few friends that worked in a prison,
most times they wind up in solitary confinement just
      to keep them alive.
I’ve had a few times where my name matched an offender
that’s on the list, even though they had a picture and
his age, I still had to show an ID or be arrested for
“not reporting my move” so if they survive, they never
have a moment’s peace. Sure they are still a risk, but
it doesn’t take long for people to find out who and
      what they are.

There was well over 90 where I grew up, here there’s
only 54, but there’s far less population. Seems the
more people there are, the dumber they become.
Or just sick and twisted, only suited to be Big Bubba’s
            chew toy…
I’ve had that problem many, many times since mt name
is so common, when I was 16 and had just got my
driver’s license, I got pulled over by no less than 3
squad cars. They dragged me out of the car, ignoring
my questions, cuffed me and had me sit in one car
while they stripped my old ’67 VW fastback inside
and out, then demanded to know where the drugs
were at. Turns out there were looking for a guy that
was 27 with my name that was a known drug trafficker.
and since it was back in the days that the DL’s didn’t
have a picture on them, they decided it was fake.
After they finally decided I wasn’t their man they all left.
My car’s interior and everything I had in the car was
laying on the ground in 10 degree weather…
            And my heater didn’t work.

I had a similar experience (less the handcuffs) at the border patrol
check station near Ozona. We were coming home from visiting our son
in New Mexico in our bronze colored Chrysler minivan when we got
pulled out of the line and our van searched – THOROUGHLY. They
pulled the passenger seat out and made us open our suitcases. They
even made us empty the glove box and center console! Meanwhile there
was a steady stream of cars passing by with the occupants ogling us
and (doubtless) wondering what sort of criminals we were. It was 100°+.
And they laughed when I asked if they were going to help me put the
seat back in. I found out later they were acting on a BOLO for a
WHITE, FORD, FULL-SIZE CARGO van so of course they wanted to
              search my Chrysler minivan!

They had pulled all the seats and pulled up the floor mat,
they were going so far as to use a wire to fish into my
gas tank ( the cap was in the trunk) and flatten my spare
tire and break the bead to see if there was anything in there.
I guess they were so sure I was the guy they didn’t hold back.

We have a similar public (online) registry in Texas. The problem with
such registries is both false positives and false negatives. People move
and they do not always report the move thus false negatives. A 19 year
old with a 16 year old girlfriend (thus technically a statutory rapist) is
likely to land on the same roster as a hard core pedo (Gopi’s Dad and
brother). I believe a 19 year old with a 16 year old girlfriend is far less
a danger to society than a pedo like Gopi’s Dad and brother or a wacko
who messes with school children or a repeat violent rapist.

Yeah, after the time we were applying for section 8
that one younger guy in the area came up, even
after I was cleared people still gave me “the look.”
Even though he was in his 40’s, 6′ tall, and looked
the part, this 5’5″ grey haired gimp was still suspect.
