Uh oh. These lizard goblins are looking
to invade, loot, pillage and plunder.
Now, did Ambassador Palas speak out of
    innocence, or out of guile?

I note he said Dragon Empire, not Wolf Empire. This could be to
ensure there is no possibility of them being suspected of having
      met the Dogishuns.
I think what he is after is finding out what technology the core
actually has; at least what is commonly known they have.

Now what wrong button did I press there to post before I finished
        (and corrected) the post?
Of course Ambassador Palis is HE not she; and I meant to add the
Catians might find out the hard way.
But if they do I bet it will be the ‘lizards’ that get the
        bigger surprise.

They took out a dreadnought and two cruisers with two fighters.
Palas said they need technology and have the resources to pay for it.
      I’d say: “It’s a trap.”
If they send ‘pirates’, their ships will tell them a lot about their
      capabilities.
If they attack in the hopes of keeping it secret, they broke the law
even if Caitians are considered Humans. Not only that, they will have
declared war on the Caitians and maybe all Humans. That gives them an
excuse to blockade their wormhole. It also gives them an excuse to
blockade the Dogusian wormhole. If they want to keep their alliance a
secret, the Dogusians have the excuse of doing nothing because they
don’t have the ships to stop the Caitians. And if they send the other
Dogusians home to ‘defend’ their system…
One way they have an excuse for tighter controls on their wormhole
and get information about their future enemy. The other way the others
started the war and the Wolf Empire can blockade their sector. Which
allows them to build up their allies and their own forces. Of course
if they attack, they will underestimate the Caitian’s technology and
      capabilities.
And if they get honest business partners, they will have split the
power block of the Core Worlds.

Remember, the Core Worlds don’t know yet that war is coming and that
they will start it. They simply can’t ignore what is going on. When
they finally figure out what is going on.
Essentially Palas is getting the ball rolling, trying to have a
win-win situation. That’s my take on it anyway.

    “No talkies. Coffees”
That’s how I am most mornings.
Sometimes I wonder how I get
    to work in the mornings?

I’m pretty much awake as soon as I get up, but that is seldom
      before 10am and often noon.
But then I seldom go to bed before sometime between 2 and 4 am.
(I worked afternoon shift for 22 years at my last job
      before I retired).

I was going to say “lucky you” at your 10am wake up time.
But then I read your shift work times. It all washes out.
Have you thought about amateur radio as a hobby? Late
evenings and early nights can be great times to make
        world wide “contacts”.

Interesting. I also noted the subterfuge in referring to the old name for the Empire
and the misinterpretation thereby fostered. And the reference to heavy elements
on Catia, when, iirc Catia is slightly larger than Earth with a similar surface gravity,
so it’s actually Earth that is denser and has more heavy elements, and the
real treasure trove in both systems is their asteroid belts. Palas is fishing. Playing
cards with him would be challenging, poker or bridge. Let’s go with Goblins for the
new species until PC names them — they appear to be mammals. And we now
know new species ARE discovered occasionally. That’s a slight shift in what we
were told by the dragon years ago, but not a big one and not unexpected. I
wonder if we are to assume that “new” species are not afforded the protection
of the peace treaty until such time as they are accepted into the Council. I had
not expected this loophole, but it makes sense and makes the current situation
more precarious for Catia and the Empire, and offers an alternate explanation
    for the tack Mitchell took.

Goblins it is – pending official naming by PC.
Also note Palas did not mention the Catians
as a part of the ‘Dragon’ empire.

There could be newly formed or unknown wormholes out there that no
one has found as of yet, the system could be galaxy-wide. I’m sure
someone will figure out a way to detect them if they don’t
      already have it.

IF there is a way, it is not public knowledge..
if they had it ,, it would not be ‘unknown’..

We know the Dragons have access to Stealth technology. It is possible they are coming
and going through the known wormhole using it to get from Sol to their home system(s),
but that seems unlikely given the necessity to coordinate passage in what amounts to a
single-lane bridge. And I get the impression the wormhole itself reacts visibly to
something passing through it and that may not be hidden by the ship’s Stealth. This is
the reason I assume there is another wormhole in the Sol system. I may be wrong on
one or more of these points. It is also possible they have mastered teleportation to the
point they no longer need wormholes, but that seems like an even less likely scenario.

I think ABS Palas is seeing who else is in the employ of the core
humans as far as the raiders/pirates and what better way than to
dangle a string so to speak and see who jumps lol. I love the
comment about low population they clearly think they are peaceful
and an easy target sounds like they’re going to be collecting more
ships! Also they are a bit more like rodents or wingless bats than
    lizards.

Ah Janice… Just another far left-er that should of been left
behind but the Empress does permit free speech and ignores the
troublemakers like her and “Big Red” lol

As for resource rich … why isn’t everybody just strip mining asteroids?

Invading planets full of people who might have a different point of view on this should be way more hassle then it’s worth.
And there’s always the fact that reaching the orbit of a planet is way way way more expensive than just skipping around in an asteroid belt.
(Just look at sizes of Satutn V, the moon lander and their return capsule. Most of the giant > 100m rocket is just fuel. The lander is tiny in comparison. And the thingy to reach lunar orbit is tinier still)

Unless asteroid belts aren’t that common? They want more than minerals.
Even then, it’s easier to get someone else to extract them for you.
Look at Dogishua, you can’t get mercenaries, meat or exotic woods
      from asteroids.

Maybe not asteroid belts but Oort clouds and Kuiper belts (that’s where all those comets live) should be pretty common, according to best current theories about the formation of planetary systems.
In short: not everything ends up as part of a planet. Some stuff is kicked far out by the larger planetary bodies.
The birth of our system was very chaotic and there’s mathematical reasons for why it settled down in the way it did. This process automatically results in smaller bodies (asteroids and comets) getting kicked out of the inner system.

My main point is that it is very, very expensive to move anything from a planet’s surface into orbit.
