Yes, that is Betty from the Archie comics. IMS Petercat’s had that
pic up on that wall (or other walls) before.
Re King Rex being surprised: I figure he damned near swallowed his
tongue at Chardis’ offer. If the Amphibians’ (can’t remember if we
ever got a formal designation for them) experience was any
indication of core worlds traders proclivities, they’ve probably
been ruinously low prices for whatever they acquired. I also
suspect any Dogs working offworld are being paid starvation wages.
I would expect the core worlds have a maxim which translates as
“Never give a sucker an even break.” It would also follow that they
consider pretty everybody with whom they trade to be a “sucker”. To
date Petercat has yet to indicate that most coreworlders have much
of a moral code. Fortunately for the rim worlds (I figure “rim”
would be the effective antonym for “core” in this context) the
empire does not allow ethically challenged people to roam among
the stars. Once terran civilians start operating in space I expect
less than honorable people will be out acting less than honorably.
Since anybody from terra going into space for a long while will
ostensibly be citizens of the empire, I figure the empire will
enforce a proper code of conduct on such folks. That won’t
preclude badguys from going into space but it will ensure there
is an official presence. I don’t figure Teresa is likely to be
any too keen on allowing terrans to do anything which could
make the empire look bad.
I’m sure the prices will be negotiated in greater detail since the
Cats want their wood as well as unused land for storage and prisoner
locations plus I expect the core worlds will declare full scale war
at some point since the wolf/dragon empire have really cut into their
“sweet set up”. I also expect terrains won’t be able to do much
trading for a while since the core worlds are mainly human held
making the rim races suspicious of their intentions.
Scarsale, I’m not calling you down, but the empire’s name is officially
“wolf”. The author changed the name a couple of years back. I don’t
know his reasons – no one does but him – but I kinda suspect that
it might still be a bit of a sore subject. Just a friendly heads-up
to a new reader. I, for one would love to know what prompted the
change but I respect Petercat too much to pry.
Bill, it’s simple. Emperor Bishop named it the Dragon Empire, but since Teresa took over,
it became the Wolf Empire. It stems from her, Kathy, Aaron and Robert being nicknamed
the “Wolf Pack” when they were in school.
There are no humans in the Core Worlds. Humans have long been viewed
as savages, and have been isolated from the rest of the other species for
a very long time.
I get the impression that “The Northern Worlds” and “The Southern
Worlds” are named from the perspective of Catia, the human worlds
who connect through two of their stellar system’s wormholes,
where “The Core Worlds” and “The Fringe Worlds” are named from
the perspective of that large labyrinthine wormhole map mentioned
a few strips back. It’s a much larger structure that may not even
include the human and dragon worlds, but probably does. PC has
wisely left himself plenty of room to jigger the overall picture
as needed.
Now that I think about it,
were no Catian slaves held by the Southern Worlds,
or did they surrender them at the same time as
Lamia and the other Northern Worlds,
or is that a story yet to tell?
There was a comment about dragons being involved
in what had happened in the past and why some
worlds would not be visited. Imperfect memory.
As to the dogs possible great reset n their control over their lives
and their power in the galaxy. It may depend upon how dependent and
or reliant these employers are upon the Dog(ishuan) soldiers. Complex
webs have been woven, and can continue to be woven. Are the soldiers
like Hessians, or what is their loyalty to their employers. Does the king
hold loyalty above the employers. Some social beliefs and rules are still
unknown. How much of the many fleets are or can be controlled by the dogs?
Do the Dogishuans hold greater power in this new galactic equation that
they know? Shades of Great Games. A good dog can have great effects.
As to power, meat prices, morality, and the future of the core and fringe
worlds, Let the haggling, dickering, negotiating, and bidding begin.
Let’s keep actual fighting to a minimum. More profit from productive
industry and trading that way.
How are the currencies convertible?
Its not traded yet at a stock exchange.
You need a library of prices for both. And then, the currency is
worthless when you cannot spend the money. The core world units
cannot be used anymore – the connection is cut. There is only the
items the Wolf clan has to offer – and the associated systems so far.
It will take a bit time to sort things out, i guess.
see panel 7. Catian already had the conversion.
stock exchange?? what is that.? (that is a Earth idea.)
as to why the Empire made their money gold.. trade
(by weight.) anywhere..
also,, this Catian, not Wolf.. Wolf may be backing this
but the cats are the traders.!
and the cats grew up in this.
conversion,.: 1 dragon = $10 ,, steak per kilo (US) = $10 to $22.
she is buying ‘good steak’ at $5 per kilo..
core trade units(ctu) in kilo’s.. 8 ctu = 1 kilo..
so,, 1 dragon = 16ctu..
Is that Betty from the Archie comics on Teresa’s wall?
I think the King and Queen are surprised by the offered price for meat.

So this is taking place in the far future?
Happy cats and dogs who know not our present struggles.
near alternate future..
the Dogs & Cats are not from earth…
I guess that makes sense.
So, Mitch and his crew were as bad as the
evidences implied. No Legion for them.
Doubt they’re offered a death gauntlet run either.

The Imperial Dragon is about to become the universal trade currency,
much as the US dollar is today.
Currency exchanges will be set up as needed.
