Ouch! Possible broken hip for Ivan. Luckily he’s still young and so
will most likely heal quickly. I shudder to think what the result
would for some of us who hang out here. At our age a broken hip
could easily be fatal, right, Ned? At the very least we would be
looking at a very long recovery time and we very well might not
come all the way back. In Ivan’s place I think I would prank
Mavia and play the guilt and sympathy card for all its worth.

I don’t think Ivan is pranking Mavia, not after reading that “KRAK”
      from the previous strip.
Hopefully Ivan and Mavia keep their heads, Ivan to stay very still,
and Mavia to keep Ivan calm and still.

AFAIK – the most significant risk to us oldsters with major bone
      fractures/orthopedic trauma is – a fat embolism.
And yes, that can be lethal.
As is the way laying about with immobility puts one at significant
risk of pulmonary embolism secondary to DVT – equally so.
Here is hoping brother Ivan . . . could be an iliac crest or lateral
aspect fracture – would hurt from nose-to-the-toes.
From Catman’s drawing in panel 2, I would not think about it being a
      (R) Femoral nick fracture – could be a trochanteric fx tho . . .
Those usually result in the foot laying over abnormally.
(But perhaps Catman has not the ortho rehab experiences I have
      given care for . . . hopefully).
      Here is hoping for Ivan.
      😀

      Bill – A word.
You have a report yet in your (unexplained) weight loss?
Recommend requesting your pending appointment be moved much closer,
to very soon. – were I in your Chain of Command, you would have a
boatload of labs to get in preparation.
      Didn’t want to say STAT in my O-5 voice . . . .
Yeah, yeah – well – I said it anyway.

My appointment is Tuesday. I tried to get in to see my primary care
but since the lockdown began getting to see my VA assigned primary
care practitioner has been worse than pulling wisdom teeth. I
figure what doesn’t kill me at least leaves me alive so if they are
not upset then I don’t figure me fretting about it is going to help.
It’s only a couple more days and I’m not really getting worse – just
not getting better either. Got lots of things not right but fretting
(or getting mad) over it isn’t good for me. I’ve been going to die
before. In 2012 I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis – pretty
much a for-sure death sentence (10% 5-year survival rate apparently)
from what I was able to find out. The wife had me start social
security at age 62 so I’d at least get to draw SOME of it. Then in
2015 I suddenly started getting better. I had gained a shit ton of
weight (45 additional pounds) but I was losing body mass. I had
ascites and pitting edema and had an “interesting” golden cast to
my skin. Then suddenly the water pills took hold and I went from
370 to 240 in about 5 weeks. Started feeling better, too. When the
hepatologist finally got around to doing an endoscopy my esophagus
was clear. Then the biopsy came up clear, too. Bottom line I’m
still around. They ain’t shed of me yet. Whatever I have doesn’t
seem to be getting worse. The grim reaper and I are old travelling
companions. I’ve had a good 2 dozen prime chances to cash in my
        chips and I’m still here.

Bill, if I remember correctly, they have a new program that allows you to use civilian doctors, if VA is too far or not available. You should check with your local DAV about this.

My mother broke her hip and had it replaced when she was 82.
She’s doing fine. Of course, she didn’t have much in the way of
other health issues, and is a tough old bird, they used to say all
    whipcord and whalebone.
“No, no, it’s all right, Mavia. How could you have known a tower
of center-column tables with heavy tops would be precarious? I’ll
be ok, probably. Eventually. Might walk again, someday. Might not
lose this kidney. Really, don’t worry about it.”

Really? How could anyone look at the tower and not comment on how
NOT stable it would be? But poor kitten just had be to up high
somewhere to pounce upon her prey.

You know how cats are. Comedian Robert Klein used to do a great bit
on how cats will screw up and then act like nothing happened. Cats
always have to be at the highest point around. I’ve seen more than
one of the cats the wife and I have had, fall asleep lying on top
of the back of n easy chair, fall off and then calmly
walk away like they meant to do that.

Petercat sorry to have to say this here. That exchange with the
madwoman on Motus was so funny I nearly passed out. Is she man really.
Is she trying to be funny? I think she must look like a bum to people,
if any of that is true.

Developments in the continuing saga move slowly.
Waiting to find out what’s next.

        That’s a she? I don’t know if she’s mad-angry or mad-crazy or just lying,
but when she came on talking about taking food meant for homeless people
and selling it, well… That’s pretty low.
She expected praise for that? Really?
And then to imply that I have a low opinion of “people” because I pointed it out?
Oh, HAIL no! The last few days have been pretty rough, and I am in no mood
to play nice with someone like her.
        You’re sure that’s a “she”?
        Are you r-eee-ly sure?

You know, I started out reading that thinking this has to be satire,
she’s making fun of someone and I’ll eventually figure out who. But
the longer I read, the less I thought that. Trying to be generous,
maybe she was intentionally trolling. Which reminds me. Can we all
stop calling people who intentionally post stupid shit on the internet
trying to start a fight trolls? That’s an insult to trolls everywhere.
Sure, trolls are stupid, but they aren’t stupid on purpose. And sure,
they like to fight, but they’re not so cowardly as to start a fight from
the safety of an anonymous internet connection where their chances
of losing an eye or a tooth are practically nonexistent. They aren’t
cowards. Think of a better word. Trolls don’t deserve the disrespect.
Trolling, on the other hand, refers to dragging a baited line through
an area where you hope prey is stupid enough to latch on. It’s a
verb not connected to trolls so I don’t mind using it.

Jochi, I finally decided after reading her comments for a couple of years that she is, in medical jargon, fucking nuts. lol

Well, You can never be really absolutely sure online, but CD has
always presented as female. If CD is male he is even weirder.
She hates my guts. But that ok. Its fair enough. I thought she
was just weird, but last night I saw that she is insane or something.
          I shouldn’t laugh at madness.
As you say, to think that selling that stuff was an act of altruism.
          Madness.

Thanks. I’ve learned that it’s best to discipline a child right away
when they do something wrong. Sort of like paper training a puppy,
if you don’t rub their nose in their doo-doo right away,
                it just confuses them.

One question about who gets what tech: the cattians do have their own grav drive ships right?
What about Nepal? Do they share that technology?

    • Petercat
      June 3, 2022, 14:53 | # | Reply

The Empire itself keeps a tight hold of the manufacturing of the grav units,
but they provide the units themselves to anyone who needs them. The actual
control units are extremely complex and expensive, which is why the grav
motor for Cherry’s car was such an expensive option. They are also very
complex and impossible to analyze. Thousands of layers of micro circuitry,
many of them false circuits, and thermite charges built in. Any attempt to
use X-rays, magnetic resonance, or even sonics in an attempt to analyze
one will result in it slagging down to a puddle (They are shielded).
There are other security features as well.

      • me
        June 3, 2022, 16:44 | # | Reply

If a real life system had this type of security built-in my money would still be on someone cracking it eventually. People tend to get extremely creative in this field.

Oh by the way: maybe the Empire should consider selling cheap energy to chosen allies, not-quite-enemies? Would be cheap to do using grav tech, might gain them a few “cookie-points”.
Might even work as a security layer because they’d think twice about attacking their power provider.

Although making other countries depend on you is probably against the Empire’s philosophy
