Jim is doing it the right way.
A new meaning for tore him a new one, literally a new one. OUCH!

LOL! That’s even better than I expected! I figured they wouldn’t succeed although I wasn’t expecting
Mitchell would have a hand in it. I’m glad to see the core humans have accepted the Catians that well!

You’re doing well Jim act calm and give clear info on your intentions and the location you’re after I have
little doubt he’ll win over some if not all very quickly.
I had to do something very similar at the factory, a new machine they had bought were woefully under
powered and after I put in my two cents in about it and was rudely told to butt out so I went to the
department head and explained to him why the machine was jamming up and what I needed to fix it.
He agreed and got me the funds, not only did I fix the issue I made that big wig that blew me off rather
angry with me LOL. It saved many hours of down time while the operator had to climb in and clear
the jam so yeah. I owed him anyway, he stole an idea I had, claimed it as his own which I might add
he screwed it up so badly that it didn’t work… just made a huge mess! Gallons and gallons of
contaminated water everywhere, I had to laugh!

Thank you, thank you very much. It’s been a while
since I have been out of breath with laughter.

That said, I wonder. How long where they having dinner
before Sergeant G’doran and his men showed up?
Or in other words, how long have they been waiting for them?
Because I don’t believe for a nanosecond that this was by chance.
How many other witnesses saw and how many
    ‘security’ cameras recorded this event?
And I wonder why she didn’t hear the crack in the time-space-
continuum, because those news probably went around that planet
at a speed exceeding that of light. Including the implications.

Still got tears in my eyes from laughing.

They might of also been together to “watch the results” as well, so it would look innocent.
If you think about it, Palas and Mitchell might of been concerned but it’s just as likely they
were waiting to see if they won or not. No one was expecting the Dragons to step in at the
      last second like that!

Wow! Talk about ripping someone a new ass hole . . .

Side note: sorry, Catman, but everything has an ass hole. Scientifically speaking
every animal more complex than a sponge digests its food outside its
body. Technically, almost all multicellular animal life are – topologically speaking –
toruses, i.e. donuts. Like the simplest single-celled organisms we digest our food
outside our bodies. Any complex organism would follow this plan and thus would,
perforce, already have an ass hole. Note this would apply to all bilaterally
symmetric organisms. Everything from gnats and brine shrimp to elephants and blue
whales have an ass hole. Even molluscs such as snails, octopi and even oysters have
an ass hole. It was a cute joke, Catmen, but it utterly violates science.

Did I mention it was a cute joke?

They might have a deal like chickens, a cloaca, which everything happens from. Which makes them less
genetically advanced than the human race. Technically you’re right but a combined orifice isn’t considered
just one thing so the attack could be considered sexual so yeah…

Well, Bill, I stand corrected. I thought molluscs lacked an anus and had to regurgitate
to defecate like Larry Niven’s Slavers (Thrintun). But apparently in real life that’s limited
to critters like hydra and flatworms. Haz’s expression is absolutely perfect. 😀 😀 😀

Also anemone, corals and jellyfish. I’m learning a lot.

Shit! I had forgotten about the Thrintun. I suppose I was being to terranocentric.
Of course I suppose I could be forgiven considering how similar all the species
(originally) on Xanadu are to terrestrial chordates. I suppose they could be like
sea anemonies and regurgitate their undigested food. But most multicellular species
on Earth have a one way digestive system. I suspect Niven gave that trait to the
Thrintun to make them even more loathsome than they already were.

I once met Larry Niven. It was one year when the Worldcon was being
held outside of North America (Oz IMS) so the North American SF Con
was held and it was held in Austin, Texas (where I was living at the time).
Only time I ever went to a con but it was a total blast. Actually got a
couple of minutes alone with Niven. For years afterward when I read one of
his books I heard his voice narrating it.

I think their plan B just backfired, I hope for them they know when to stop
before plan C & D will remove their seat from the council.
I am looking forward to see how things will unfold when the “terrans” come
into the core-worlds going as the “wolf empire” I almost feel like there
will be “2 core’s” where the “2nd core” will be around either Cattia or
Earth. Let’s see how this will unfold.

I don’t post much, because I generally like to just look/read, and enjoy
the content, but let me tell everyone here: I enjoy this story and can’t
wait to watch plots thicken and then unfold! I don’t think I can say it
enough: this is one of the best story writing I have seen!
    Thank you for everything!

I was the same for a bit but as I read the comments over time I just had to join in PC has done
      a great job!

They are called “The Core” simply because they are all around the planet Xanadu where all life
in the known area of space originated from. If the Empire expands enough they could be the leading
the core but both Terran’s and Catain’s are from the fringe area, Terran’s are in the Dragon region.
I’m sure the Empire will control all trade in short order now that they have the protection of the
treaty. I’m sure they will have a rocky time of it but the hardest part is over.

Partly but they have a beachhead in the playing field, something none of the core worlds expected.
Plus they have the support of many worlds they have worked for and apparently 2 of the core members
and the Dragons. No it’s not going to be easy I’m not that silly I’m just saying they have succeeded
in getting in, not bad for a bunch of genetically modified slaves! At least they don’t speak per-historic
egyption with intelligent worms in their bellies LOL.

“I hope for them they know when to stop”
Now where would the fun be in that? I suspect the core-worlders have been in
charge for so long they just consider the current status quo to be the natural
order. I strongly suspect the core-worlds are about to get their comeuppance.
What’s the proverb about pride? Oh, yeah. Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before
destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

I would of laughed til I was half sick if the report was that Sgt. G’doran had to go
to the hospital with Mitchell so he could get his shoe back LMBO! An old phrase my
Missouri-born mother used a few times LOL. I also heard it used in both Gary, IN
and Chicago, IL so it got around. Hopefully this will prevent these bat folk get the
message and not try this again.

Not only did Jim clean up well, he also has actual credentials!

Now to convince the loggers that the Total R.O.I for that plot of
land is actually greater by leaving it fallow and charging “park”
    fees, instead of the effort in clearing it :}

Most commercial lumber I’m familiar with is pine, because it is light, soft, strong for it’s
weight and cheap. It also comes from bigger trees than those scrubs. Walnut, hickory
and oak are much stronger and prettier, and used for decor and other special purposes,
not framing and the like that will be covered. On the other hand, my parents’ house is
made of 100% oak we felled and milled ourselves, except for the attic trusses we bought
premade, those are pine. We built the house while the oak was still green, because if it
had time to season it would have been harder than the nails. That house is a fortress.

Don’t forget that pine trees grow (comparably) fast. That’s the reason why it’s preferred for
commercially used forests for centuries – which is actually a problem since mono-cultures
tend to be less robust against parasites and diseases.

Maple is another fast growing tree, almost as tough as a common weed, I cut down a small one
by the main pasture’s fence and by the next year it looked like a bush! So my son re-cut it this
spring and it’s already started to recover.

Pine is commonly used only because of the speed and the ease of processing but even with pressure
treating it has a shorter life span than other types. Sun and weather can weaken the fibers in just a
few short years and it’s difficult to maintain a smooth surface without constant re-coating. The ramp on
my father’s front door was built with pressure treated pine 8 years ago and it’s already started to
break down. Plus several of the deck boards have warped.

Was thinking the same thing myself. They don’t build houses these days out of
expensive wood. (Can’t say about times past. Folks then undoubtedly built out of
whatever materials.were.available.) It wouldn’t be economical. But perhaps the area
in question is just a small area of mixed species and not commercially viable. You’d
think Professor Hartwood (bad pun there, Catman) would be well versed in the
      economics of forestry.

The house I grew up in was 100+ years old and was built entirely of raw cut red cedar. Would of been great
but it was so old and dried out a simple fire would of lit the whole place in minutes. We found out when we
tried to re-insulate it I could carve out a sliver with my thumb nail and I was 10.

When I was in high school, there was a kid with Down’s Syndrome who could
do all of this, including the horseback. His parents made him a Mongol outfit,
and when he wore it he was transformed into a warrior.

Some Down’s folks function at a fairly high level intellectually.

Sadly, the only time he functioned at a high level was when he was
being a Mongol warrior. It was as if holding a bow or a sword flipped
a switch in his head. But only for Mongol warrior activities. The
rest of the time he was medium-low.

Have always heard the expression about tearing you a new one. Bet this is the first time it actually happened. Especially to that overbearing species. LOL. LOL.
