Let me explain my situation:
I have an internet connection, but it varies from dead to KPS speed. So, for example, to load a new comic
gets me page time outs. I loaded the full bonus page of Amillu dancing on my Deviant Art page and it took a dozen
or so tries to load fully.
I will have a full 400MPS connection on June 10 if all goes well, and I will be creating more pages in the meantime
and trying to post them so that they appear on schedule. But there will be three strips per week, even if a couple or so appear late.
Thanks for your patience.
Hi PC.
Could it be posible to use your phone as a hotspot?
When I once in a while forget to bring my 4G-router on a campingtrip that is my solution.
Ok ok, I have a plan which includes 30 GB data/month, but less also works.
no.. most hotspot plans cost as much as the regular provider. (he would need more, not less.)
also have to be near or on a repeater,, he would be transferring gig intensive files..
like PC i don’t live near town , so coverage is spotty. (with the router acting as antenna, east side of house has 2 or 3 bars,, west has 0… thats about 50 feet…)
also the fone has to be capable ,, which i don’t think his is (i know mine is not.)
IF my tablet had coverage,, to do what PC is doing a month,, would cost me $120 a month in hotspot usage alone…
useless info,,, each page on average, is 5 gigs
Amiliu dancing was 8 gigs.. with all the addons…
so what does this mean,, at peak (up/downloading) speed a ‘kps’ transfer tops out at (about) 3 gig .. hence a time out on a 5 gig load… Amiliu’s 8 gig would take 4 reloads at peak,, but since it was not peak,, would take atleast 9 buffer reloads at 1 gig each,, then two or three reloads to git the files into one.. o.0 ..
all that sed,,, back to ‘peak speed’ IF everything was just so,, then at 400mps a 5 gig load would take 13 seconds to load… but since that is never the case.. a 5 gig load will take about 2 min… on average. but there is no load buffering.. 🙂
So did the humans know the value covfeve would have to the amphibians? My guess is not, or else they would have been using the catians as agricultural worker slaves to make cofeve for trade.
When you think about it, it’s really tragic… the amphibians didn’t want to even talk to the humans, and so never had a chance to get cofeve.
The implications of this page are interesting. There’s no actual war between the various races, but they aren’t necessarily nice to each other. Unless cofeve really is hard to grow on the other planets. Maybe it is: I’d have to assume that the amphibians want cofeve more than just about anything else, so they should have large engineering projects to make covfeve growing fields: reclaimed land and space habitats. If it was easy to grow, a space-faring civilization would have lots of it by now.
Well, things are about to change. To quote a classic: “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
I often don’t reply to comments such as yours because I want to see what my readers
come up with in response. I get some good ideas that way.
Like Bill, below.
Either that or I’m too lazy to come up with my own.
But… Ambassador Palas is sitting right there.
have you seen the Lamians.?? i mean .. “What is in it for ME first.!?!” like feudal Europe, or Capitalists today,, who want it all , right now, an that is not enough.!! an we wont even go on about if it is important to you.!!
..97% of the worlds money is owned by 2% … soooo,, what im saying is , can you pay me.? .. no.. then it is not worth my time to talk to you.!
The best kind of trading. The two sides agree to part with something they can acquire easily for something they want/need but cannot acquire easily. Both sides profit so both sides come out ahead. It’s a positive sum game. There are no zero sum games. If I set out to gouge you I am harmed morally while you are harmed fiscally. That’s a negative sum transaction. That the Lamians would trade so dishonorably is entirely in keeping with their lack of character as evinced by their keeping Catian slaves. Sick, corrupt culture. One wonders about the morals and the character of the unnamed other races mentioned. Such behavior is akin to the price gouging some merchants exercise in time of emergency. Such behavior is despicable.
The amphibians did say that they would not do business with slavers. And until learning otherwise considered the Caitians to be human slavers.
A good Prince, or a good capitalist, is supposed to have good morals. Things break down otherwise. Hence our growing income divide worldwide, which has only been made stronger and bigger by the actions taken in the “War on Covid-19.” As many planned.
Good trade increasing the wealth of both trading peoples appears to be in their future.
Just for grins and giggles, I did the math for how much cofeve those 2 1 kiloliter containers of syrup would yield. The result was 400,000 liters of drink. To hold it all you would need a container 10 meters on a side by 4 meters high. For us metric challenged Americans, that’s 105,669 GALLONS of cofeve drink. If the glass the good captain drank was 250ml (a bit more than a cup) then those 2 kiloliters of syrup could foreseeably extend the useful lifetime of 1.6 MILLION of the amphibians by a month. An ISO standard shipping tank container 20’l x 8’w x 8.5′ high (frame) can hold up to 25 kiloliters. That single container would conceiveably extend the useful life of 20 MILLION amphibians by a month. The Cats won’t HAVE to gouge the amphibians to become very wealthy. If it was me I’d have my engineers and techs looking at possible technology transfers as well.
umm,, most if not all hotspots cost as much or more depending on the usage as a regular provider.. AND to get maxim usage you have to on or near a repeater (which he is not.)..
also the fone must have the hotspot ability,, which i don’t think his has.. for me to do this off my tablet hotspot,, would cost about $120 a month in just hotspot use.!!!
but like PC im not near a repeater..
You definitely have to have it in your phone plan to be able to use your phone as a hotspot. The wife and I are piggybacking on my daughter’s phone plan and she has unlimited data; streams movies through her phone all the time but it will not allow one of us to set up our phone as a hotspot. Back before we left Verizon to piggyback on AT&T I used to use my phone as a sometimes hotspot. Set it up to show up as “FBI Van” with a 24 character password. I figured that if anyone was bold enough to try and connect to the “FBI Van” they would never get the right combo of 24 characters. But we cannot do it with AT&T.
Rob, I am working on some models for the Catman. Got the multipurpose module ready, also have that EITS (Eye In The Sky) Surveillance module ready to send to PC. Also about finished with a cargo module for an upsized version of the Locust transporter I christened Locust II. I have the shell and interior of the module about ready and am working on wheels for it and a hydraulically operated (okay simulated) rear hatch. I know how I want to model that, I just have to figure out how to hide the hydraulics. If the module were real it would be able 8 mil standard cargo pallets.I figure on waiting until the 10th when PC is expecting to be back to a reliable connection before sending the models to him. Do you want me to email the models to you as a backup? If so, email me at puudsgpaw AT gmail. Might want to give me a shout here if you do email me. I don’t always check my email daily.
https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Guides/How-Much-Data-Does-Hotspot-Use. : “On average, data limits for mobile hotspots are not very high and can’t really support working from home if your job requires heavy web browsing, data downloads, and/or video conferencing. However, if you are a light internet user, hotspots might work as your sole source of internet”..!!
i guess i did not make it clear.!
yes hotspots work.. an are not costly.. IF all you do is surf and stream.! BUT… if you try to use for data download,, you will burn through your bandwidth in seconds… yes you can load a 5 gig movie an stream , in bout 2 mins ,, but transfer a 7mb cargo pod via hotspot will take bout 20 min ,, again IF you can get it to buffer…
yes they have “Business plan” (for like,, remote job sites.) but as i said those are not cheap.!
my wife worked AT&T she managed technical support, and worked closely with financial care.. so i learned a few of their tricks…
also,, just saying,, the syrup totes are 48″ x 40″ x 45.4″h an hold 275 gallons an weigh 2334 pounds…
and yes i am one of those “metric challenged”,. i cannot wrap my head around this less than 400 year old lab based made up french system (even the french argued about it for almost a hundred years..).
the other system is based off something tangible, an has been around since the dawn of man,,, [ how can you tell that board is 6″ wide an 6′ feet long.?? well look , i have 2 feet, go figure.!! ]
The Captain is leading a mission he chose to undertake that will greatly benefit and empower his world, it’s strength, and individually each person on his planet.
That is a successful mission and choice. He will also benefit by ensuring honest trade where both sides win.
A question they will delve into are what are the motivations of the other species? What is the culture and customs at play? The obvious value of exchanging what is of value to each is beginning. The periodic table and who has what is a major trade area. Another line of knowledge to be searched is: are the amphibians being oppressed in some manner by the other species they interact with? How will the economic bondage being removed rm the amphibians effect the suppliers to the amphibians? will another fight, this time to defend the amphibians. be in the future? And that’s what the Ambassador is there to deal with. Some people like taking advantage of others. Others like to end that situation. The Empire has appeared to be one that desires and acts to end oppression, and also borrowing just wars for training purposes and for ends that help the empire. The opponent in the borrowed war having slavery is also a positive bonus.
I thought about having the Cats sell Covfeve to the other races at a steep markup, but then
I realized that the others would know that the Cats had come through the amphibians’ space,
so the other races wouldn’t be able to sell it to the amphibians at a markup.

Very well put.

SOMEONE has too much free time on their hands…….PHEW!
My hat’s (if I wore one) off to you, for all those calculations.
