Someone’s family seems to be getting a reality check. – Is Minka in her nightclothes? Nice slippers by the way (what is visible at least)…

Guess some other ones’s confidence in their shields happens to be a bit overrated.

Minka is playing a no-shit, for real emergency.
The shields worked fine, their generators were mounted with heavy, heavy mounts
      to the ships’ frames.
The shields didn’t fail until the frame buckled and severed the power leads.

A double whammy. I only know Rebecca.
I have never met your son. Does your butt
hurt much Julian? It’s being gnawed on by
    your own bragging.

    quick math: 1%c = 6,700mph (3,000kph)
plus 50,000 ton ship, equates to 48 kilo tons.
or two Nagasaki ‘s @ 21 kilo tons each..
    who needs warheads…

First, 0.01c is around 6.7 million mph.
One mile is roughly 1.6 kilometers.
So kph wil be more than mph.
I tend to doublecheck math, just because.

      It’s KPS and MPS.
      That might make a wee
      difference in the math.

thats what i get for trying to convert to that heathen made up math.!!!
yes the correct number is 6,706,166mph or 2998km/s
IF the Brits hadn’t stolen (pirate) it in the first place.
we all would be on the made up math system…

I suspect Juli’s about to get mad, call Minka out, and
get roasted so badly that’s he’ll run out crying like the
    lil bitch he is.

Boiled egg? I was thinking like what happens to an egg
in the microwave. It did almost make that ship into a
donut! If the shield bent, it almost won, but sadly for
that ship, you can deflect physics, but you can’t beat it.

I wonder if Julian’s next line will be,
“do you want fries with that?”

I was honestly expecting the billiards effect, resistance being near total,
with the transfer of energy creating a extreme acceleration away from the
impact point. Said sudden acceleration having lethal effects on the
occupants. Lancing a balloon with a dull needle is just as lethal, if the
balloon can not rebound away from the dull needle.

The shield stayed up until the ship was damaged enough inside the shield
to cause it to fail. That’s the downside of a shield, while it might protect
the ship to a degree, it also locks the ship in place. Making something like
this to happen easily. I hope for the disruptor’s sake this gives them pause.
Or things will get ugly, quick.

No, Taulsk is right. Momentum is conserved even when kinetic
energy isn’t. The total momentum of all fragments should still
total to the momentum of the two ships prior to impact. If the
shields had stayed spherical as I expected, the bigger ship
would have rebounded and the billiard ball image is vividly
accurate, as is what happens to the soft bits inside. Shields
bending because the underlying structure bent is a new idea,
to me at least, but conceivable.

OK, last time Sylphy’s face read psycho to me. Today I see rapture
while looking at carnage. I’m’a gonna advise my grandsons against
    dating that one.

Who suggested Rebecca might stiff her family for the tab?
    Good call.

I’m thinking of the Death Star implosion as the same principle
(but on a MUCH smaller scale) as someone wearing a “bullet
proof” (they ain’t) plate, and being hit with a 50BMG round.
That round has a lot of momentum/energy. When it hits,
a lot of that energy will be transferred to the plate, THEN
continue on through to the person wearing the plate. Big OUCH!
If there’s enough momentum/energy left over, then the plate,
and the person wearing said plate, will be punctured, shattered,
    and splattered.
    End of story.
Oh, I’m wondering if there will be anything usable of the Death
Star after this catastrophic collision collapse.
I still say after any inspection, point it to the nearest solar mass,
and let gravity do the cleanup.

’tis fortunate those projectiles are Out-bound. Imagine one striking the Earth.
