Well, my new A/C is all hooked up.
Six more hours and I can fire it up.
    Hope it works.

I have it on my kitchen counter, that’s the only way the
exhaust hose would reach the window (My computer
room is what used to be the breakfast nook).
That also puts the outlet up high, since cold air descends.
So far, it’s keeping the room chilly.
I really don’t think I’ll ever buy another window A/C again,
installing this one was way too easy.
The one I bought (12000 BTU, actually around 7000 BTU,
which it says in the small print):

Very true, my son bought one of those and sung the praises
for weeks after, the only issue is if you have limited floor
space. Or a windowless room. I’ve seen options for those
that allows you to vent the hot air outside, but you need
both air in and out for that, or you’re vacuuming out
          your air from inside.

Same as exhausting out through a window, actually.

Can you put a dryer vent in through your wall?
That would work for a hot air exhaust

              • Petercat
                June 12, 2024, 06:44 | # | Reply

No, a dryer vent is 4″, the exhaust hose is 6″.
I’ll have to use a central air vent fitting or
                a bathroom vent.
I need to pick up a length of 6″ insulated
                flexible air duct, anyway.
The existing hose is thin plastic, like a
bendy straw, and it gets very hot.
It radiates heat back into the room.

Yeah, my son had mentioned that too, all he did was get it
as close to the window as possible and use flexible heat
duct rather than the plastic one. His is only a 5000 BTU unit,
                  so maybe not as bad?

We had kept a mated pair of geese with the chickens in
their run, stopped most of the attacks. Except for owls and
hawks. The rest roamed the land. We had put up
anti-pred-netting, but a rather large barn owl got tangled
        up and ripped it up.

Ask anyone that’s had ferrets, they are a natural choice.

    And speaking of bad scores……HAH!
You should have seen mine on my first
time at the range during basic. In my
defense, it was my first time holding
and shooting a gun, ANY gun, EVER.
A day on the simulator for practice
and famililization, and I was G2G
    on the next range. (whew!)

To answer your question PC, yes I have empty slots, in both the
trailer and in the garage as well. My issue is a lack of funds
for 50 feet of 10 gauge 3 wire all the trailer has for power is
a single 12 gauge of 2 wire, enough for lights and heat lamps
is all. I save up, and things like both of my rear tires on the
riding mower give up the ghost to dry-rot, $220 for those alone!
I felt like I was buying car tires… Before anyone suggests it,
i had added “green slime” to them, it’s gross when it farts out
    a crack heh! (not sorry 😛 )

Does it work to keep people in as well?
It reminds me a bit about the “Antikapitalistic Defense Wall”
    of the former GDR.
Actually made to hinder people from running away.

    • Petercat
      June 11, 2024, 09:22 | # | Reply

Oh, come on. Why would they want to keep people who don’t want
      to be there?
Besides, the other three borders – Texas, Waukenda, and Gulf
      – are wide open.
The only purpose for the wall is to keep bad people out. If
someone wants to come in, they go to an entry point and
convince the Legionnaires there that they will be an asset
to Imperial society. Anyone who wants to leave just shows up
and says, “Let me out”. Traders and other commercial entities
can go both ways with ease.

      June 11, 2024, 22:26 | # | Reply

Honestly? I’d say to them to “don’t let the door hit you
on the way out”, they are clearly NOT Imperial members,
just looking for a hand-out. Last thing the Empire needs
is worthless, lazy, demanding people that can’t be
      bothered to make the effort.

The antikapitalistic defense wall was for kidding, sure. You are right for the
inherent logic of the comic. I do have some issues with this libertarian
dreamworld, though. I doubt it would work on a bigger scale and if then its not
a world i would want to live in.
We had that kind of Manchester Capitalism thing in my country in the 1800s. And
we were lucky to have the opportunity to export many of the surplus of poor and
miserable working class to USA. Then some laws were made about a pension
system for 65+, a mandatory insurance for accidents and a mandatory health
insurance for workers. That survived several systems from monarchy over
democracy to dictatorship to democracy and Capitalism again but with some
safety net. I am quite happy about those safety nets and know it needs
        continuous adjustments.
Currently we have nearly full employment for some years already and below 1%
long time unemployed, most of them do find a job in the end even when most of
them are 50+. Some few thousands who really do not want to work get
encouraged by cutting some welfare but that is something i can live with.
If we seriously wanted to get more workforce the best thing to change would
be some tax benefits that make mothers stay at home or work half time only.
that would instantly bring some millions back to work. I see requests for
craftsmen, bankers, secretaries, logistic guys you name it.
It really slows down the economy.

Sorry, we need to put an end to those tax benefits

Back when a single working father could support a family,
          taxes were much lower.
Now both mother and father have to work to survive.
There are other reasons, as well, but that’s the primary one.

right after WWII, they tried putting the wife back in the home..
and in the late 60’s had alot of dual income retirees in their 40’s..
the BIGGEST problem is “automation saving”.! {example. walmart
self check out,. yes, it saves the “Company” money,. BUT it costs
us (the people) alot, cuz we see none of the savings,. and costs
us more, now we have to pay more for welfare, of those laid off..

            Sorry for the wall paper.
I think its the rising pay gap between high and low incomes.
The stinking rich buying their 5th holiday mansion, this time on
Mauritius. Including a yacht from Korea. They move their money in
some tax havens and all that. Same time there are ten others who
might have to think about spending their money on heating or on
food. The country is moving towards an oligarchy and a crowd of
            under payed craftsmen.

Another thing is, that 50 or 70 years ago USA and European
countries were selling all industrial goods to the whole
world but since then there is a lot of competition grown.
The World population tripled and the number of poor and
hungry is still the same. the ones with some money and
some education have lots of energy to keep up to the
            wealthy countries.
My country does not have many unemployed people –
i see papers and radio advertisements for any kind
of jobs. Many are not payed that well since there
is competition from the middle and poor countries.

There is an increase in real income in the last years though.

A couple of years ago my country started with a law about
minimum wage. The conservatives were crying it will cost
jobs and destroy the economy. the opposite was the case.
The people still spent all their money, what meant more
jobs from that. Now the minimum wage is at 12.4 Euro per
hour. And the conservatives are still crying.

That danger to use nuclear waste as dirty bombs was the reason
why they never considered smaller nuclear power plants. This
way they have less spots to guard. In my country the dangerous
waste is placed in so called “CASTOR” tanks. Kind of safes with
a weight of 110 to 125 metric tons. Difficult to steal and also
difficult to break in. Radionucleids for X-Ray in medicine are
        already dangerous enough.
