Julie count to three before you say anything.
Although in your case maybe a hundred and three would be better.
I don’t think it will matter where she is, she will investigate anything
that is out of place. It is her nature plus she is clever. Will she still
join? To me it is a coin toss. She is a rebel for lack of a better word.
Paul, the vibe I’m getting is that her return to Barnwell was her last
chance to HAVE a choice, as her actions shows that she can’t be
trusted even in the private sector. I kinda think Impsec might have
the same option. Now Kimi might offer up another choice, only PC
knows… The real question is, WHY did she risk her future? Julie
hasn’t said why, only what and how. Like any detective,
you want to know: who, what, why, and how.
in real world: when you sign up (contract) it is for a set time.
OCS plus school (collage) would be 6 years. and since Julie
voided the contract, they “could” make it 8 years..
also, the Admiral said ” You will be entering the Navy.”
True, when I was trying to volunteer, if I joined up I would of been able to
finish high school and get training to fulfill what ever I was assigned to.
Then my medical exam results came in….
When I went into the Air Force in ’73 I signed a
6 year contract. I was 21, married and needed
a job. Committing for 6 meant I would be an E-3
right out of basic. Normal promotion cycle gave
me E-4 (Sergeant) before I went over 2 years time
in service. It was a good thing I had a guaranteed
job on my contract. They made me take the Armed
Forces Language Aptitude Test and I came with-
in 1 question of acing it. I would’ve ended up in a
hooch somewhere in Laos or Cambodia copying
enemy radio traffic and subsisting on MREs! My
TI said he’d never seen an AFLAT score any where
near that! He was the one who told me what my
fate would have been without a job in my contract!
military contracts are straight forward. (usually) and they tell you
what they expect. since i still had schooling, my contract specified
a grade average, missed school, and police interaction.. (example)
i had alot of “interaction” for fighting in schools…
Julie, You were at least partly right, you screwed yourself.
I believe the contract that Mistrial mentioned had to do with
her not getting jail time. This is far, far worse than sneaking
back into the classroom during recess to “fix” a grade in the
teachers ledger, but fixing many in the computer system for
money.
Hang in there Zeeka, I get the propaganda was scary, but these
are good people trying to fix the bad one’s mess, while making
money for all in the process. I’m sure she’s already noticed how
much happier and nicer everyone is, how clean the ship and
crew are, I’d say she’s liking the hydroponics bay quite a bit.
The contract was a 2-1 scholarship.
Since the Navy financed three years of high school,
she must serve for six years. Two years at Hell High,
the current year at Barnwell.
More later.
Oh ok, I was thinking of a situation I had mentioned before, when I lost
my temper and put that one classmate into the hospital, in order to NOT
be expelled, my parents and I had to sign this contract agreeing for the
rest of my time at the school I had to sign this “contract” that I would
have to attend consoling and not engage in any acts of violence the
rest of my time at the school. My only comment was “is this going to
protect me from the same guys trying to bully me?” Dead silence…
I wound up having to drop out or be expelled 6 months later…
After posting this, I noticed the interruption I had mid-writing
causes me to repeat myself, can someone fix it? I’m not the
smartest bulb but damn! Stupid cat chewed through wife’s oxy
hose again!
i wonder if that stuff parents paint on kids fingernails
to prevent them from chewing them would help with
your cat chewing problem? It’s pretty bitter.
Or a braided steel cover from an auto supply store.
IF you want “braided steel” goto a parts place that makes em.
the stock auto part is “only what you see pal.” and expensive.
the parts place makes to your spec, an usually half the price.
..like Huston hose llc. on Winfree dr. …
He doesn’t need a braided steel line. Just the cover, which
comes in rolls for not as much money. Just slip the sheath
over the existing oxygen line.
The sleeves are made, generally, for decorative use over
automotive vacuum lines and such.
Not for high pressure use, but sufficient to cat-proof
hoses and electrical lines.
I used them against my cat when I had lines running from
a 5-gallon tank in a small chest freezer to cool a vastly
overclocked CPU in a computer.
The cooling system used standard antifreeze.
I’ll ask around to see what’s available, oxy hose won’t tolerate the
nail polish too well, it gets weak and balloons up. She’s on 4 liters
now, that’s about 6 psi. Part of the problem is since she’s STILL in
heat, we’ve had to keep her in our bedroom, so she’s bored and
frustrated. Both my wife and my father use walkers, there’s too much
risk she’ll get out while the front door is open and the LAST thing I
want is a litter of kittens right now. Everything I’ve read says a cat
can go into heat several times during the winter months, she’s on
her third round of it.
I tell my wife I think she’s a communist, every time I say “Mao Sa Tung”
she meows and does her “dance” heh…
That’s why I gave every cat we have ever owned 2
field mods – declawed and spayed/neutered. No
idea what to do about the chewing. Never had a
cat do that. But then we never had oxy lines, either.
Julie also has basically already outed herself as a compulsive lawbreaker.
The authorities would be obligated to keep an eye on her. How far that
limits her future job opportunities within the empire, but her future
might be limited. And I doubt they would exile her.
It’s potentially too dangerous to let her go another country.
Right now the best she can hope for it being a NCO crunching numbers
while her screen is duplicated on her CO’s desk. “If you so much as
FART I want to know what flavor!” She’ll be in her late 30’s before
she’s not monitored every second…
Julie, you done gone and screwed yerself.
And now we “know the rest of the story”.
There have been several military people that leaked
classified info recently. Not because they were intelligent,
but because they were left unsupervised.
I don’t think Julie will have that problem.
Mistral’s look is so crusty you could make a sammich from it.
One item we , as far as I know, have little information on is how often the
ion drive starships need to refuel; however we do know they can travel across
many wormholes over long time periods without doing so.
It is also known not all systems can be directly powered by the ion drives,
the most important of them being the shields.
Shields are powered by accumulators charged via the ion drives. This takes
several hours. In use the shields draw power from the accumulators until they
are depleted (in two to three hours) and then the shields shut down until the
accumulators are recharged If they are involved in a battle they seldom have
the power available to do so.
In addition they cannot fire through the shields. This is usually not as bad
as it sounds as most times they are up against similar warships so the enemy
is essentially in the same situation!
And accumulators add ‘unwanted’ mass to the spaceship, but this is not usually
a significant factor in non FTL ships;
but for FTL ships it is THE critical factor!
FTL transfers are fast, believed to be instantaneous, but are not economic for
trade due the enormous cost of an FTL jump. I suspect this cost is due to
providing the power needed for an FTL jump and, like shields, this is provided
by accumulators. However this time the ‘unwanted’ mass of the accumulators is
significant and could double the mass of the starship, mass that also has to be
FTL transferred and thus significantly increasing the power required to make one.
I also think the power needed for an FTL jump is independent of the distance traveled
so the power required only depends on the total mass of the starship and it takes
several weeks for the ion drives, even with all their power diverted to the
accumulators, to recharge them. Thus they can only make one jump into a solar system.
Adding a second set of accumulators so as to make two jumps adds so much mass
the starship cannot carry enough fuel to even make one FTL jump.
So I am predicting the battle for the Catian system will come down to a large number
core battleships against much fewer Catian ships using innovative technology, including
gravity drives and weaponry, with the final result a draw when the core ships get close
enough to negate the gravity weapons of the cats and thus force them to use their close
in weapons.
And that is when the dragons step in and force both to the negotiating table.
Remember when Chirk arrived and it was only when a Dragon appeared and told
her these humans were not slavers she believed Victor.
That Dragon also told the humans they could not interfere (TGW182) due to the
mutual protection provisions of the treaty everyone (except Earth) had signed.
Now the core has broken the treaty, or to prevent the clause being applied
rescinded it, the Dragons are free to act.
“humans could not interfere” .. NO. Kataar said, “Others could not interfere.”
Victor came up with the ‘Terrans with the Catians vs the humans.. since all
were “Human!”
the treaty says “Races cannot fight Other Races.!”
“Humans could not interfere” is not what I said.
What I said was “told the humans they could not interfere”
meaning they, the dragons, could not interfere.

Sorry her nature. Finger slip again.
Her formal education stops.

I think you could put her in front of a firing squad
and she would still ask questions. It is her nature.
Maybe it’s up to Kimi.
She is like the engineer about to be beheaded by
guillotine after the first were freed because it
caught. He said I can fix that. That is Julie.
Heh, sounds like me, If I was to be hung, I’d tell ’em
how to make the lever and trap door smoother to use….

It sounds like her scholarship had strings attached.
Joining doesn’t appear to be an option.
She WILL BE going to navy boot camp.
And now we know why Mistrial was giving
her such a look since episode 1199.
Did she know about the strings?
Mistrial did say “contract,” reminds me of the one I had to
sign for my “habitual” fighting in school… Damn cocky jocks…
military contracts are straight forward. (usually) and they tell you
what they expect. since i still had schooling, my contract specified
a grade average, missed school, and police interaction.. (example)

This is the Empire. Of course the contract was written
in terms easy to understand and without “small print”.

Braided steel sleeving is available in many sizes:
https://www.amazon.com/BRAIDED-STAINLESS-EXPANDABLE-SLEEVE-HARNESS/dp/B07VQJJV7Y/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1E5JYRTDROOVD&keywords=braided+metal+sleeve&qid=1706716887&sprefix=braided+metal+sleeve%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-6
The nice thing about it is that it expands,
so it can slide over fittings.
I use marine heat shrink tubing on the ends to keep
it from unraveling, it has an inner lining of hot
melt glue that seals it so it won’t move.

I agree in general.
Though who knows? With everything that is going on she
might have a chance to change her ways and prove herself.
We will see.
She definitely cannot be trusted around computers.
It would be best to space her or ship her to the
Legion. She’s gonna wind up there anyhow.

Like that one moron leaks data simply for bragging
rights on a stupid FPS game online DUH…
or the Zero in Desert Storm, that let slip, the “Seals”
are coming ashore (attacking) at 04 at ‘…’ beach..
that turned into a media circus.!
I remember that, I had to face-palm when that came out!
heh,, just noticed in panel 5..
they still have the couch game
room in the hanger bay..
No point in tearing it down if it’s not in the way.
