just saying: quick low ball, without interest or adjustments,.
his pay would be just over 1 million. and rent pay 2 million.
so depending on time and area,. 3 to 5 mil with no interest.
also guessing, bout $40,000,000 with that rate and time..

Hmm. Put on accountant hat, pull out spreadsheets. Rent at double the market
rate, and salary at double the market rate, all but $2 per month going into a
contract payable amount at 20%, compounded monthly, and adjusted annually
      for inflation.

So, assume $2,000 per month salary and $20,000 per month are going rates when
he starts. Ignoring increases for cost of living and raises, etc., since he didn’t
mention them, each month for the first year he would be owed $4,000 for salary and
$20,000 for rent, but would only be taking $1 each, with the remaining amount going
into a contract payable. Assuming he got paid at the end of each month, at the end
of the first month they’d owe him $3,999 in salary and $39,999 in rent. At the end of
the 2nd month it would be $7,998 and $79,998, plus an additional $66.65 and $666.65
interest accrued on the first month’s amounts.

Assuming a 5% inflation rate at the end of each year, compounded annually, by my
calculations (assuming I didn’t FUBAR it somewhere), and further assuming exactly ten
years, they owe him $18,913,695.58 at the end of year ten. Increasing each month in
the eleventh year by an average monthly amount of almost $423,000.

Ah, heck, let’s just call it what it is. He has them by the short,
ahem, throat. They don’t have the money to pay the debt, as
it’s astronomically huge, and getting huger by the month.

Assume that cost of living increases applied to Jonathan as well as other teachers.
After all, the contract stipulated that he would receive twice the average teacher’s pay.

i went with the “Average” US teachers salary.
went back 11 years,. that was 22k a year.
          adding (about) 1k a year to 32k a year.
that works out 836K a year.! that is a low ave.
i was going with ,, private school, high end of
town, = 26k to start to 36k at the end..
doubled so a little over 1mil..

Disagree. He could easily be referring to the deal in an
ongoing sense. As in the contract was X but I continue
to accept Y. Since he has a valid contract, Jonathan
is advising the board that he could legally demand the
full terms of that contract including unpaid sums. In
reality Jonathan is the owner of Barnwell and could
summarily fire every person on that board – both from
the board AND from the faculty. IMnsHO he needs to
fire that principal immediately! He ought to be looking
at other board members as well. Time to clean house,
      Jon.

I swear that loser… Didn’t read the contract at all did he? So full of
himself to think that our J. Walker was dumb enough to be so generous
and not include a “safety net?” I hope you haven’t been spending all
that money he saved for your “board,” You’re gonna need it! Rent alone
for a building(s) of that size would be in the hundreds of thousands!
Plus the interest of that rent @ 20% compounded monthly…
Yeah, a cool 5 million should just about cover it… 😉

“Yes, YES, I can feel your greed, let it wash over you and through you…
And now your travel to the lucrative side will be complete!” (cackling
laugh echos in the room). Imperial Guard: “Uh guys, are your sabers not
suppose to flop over limp like that?” “The greed is strong in that one!”
(Cubby-chunkous Gortha’s saber has gone wash-rag limp as his will to

The school board is overlooking a tiny little detail. He is only talking
about the rent and his salary. He still owns the building, i.e. he
literally owns the school. He can terminate the rent contract within
the rules of the contract or the law, depending what takes
    precedence.
In either case I find it very doubtful they would be able to find, rent
and furnish a school in time.

And to top that off, even if he let the debt standing, they are so
used to the current situation, they will have a lot of trouble to
rearrange the budget to cover the current rent.
If (big if) they find another building for the school the rent might
be cheaper, but they still would have to tighten the strings on
their budget. Which usually results in the schools quality to suffer.
This rabbit hole goes on and on and on.

They screwed themselves over on so many levels it’s hilarious.

As for the situation on the Bunnykin Homeworld, here we see
Imperial law and philosophy at work and I don’t think the Core
Worlds can compete with the Empire even if they wanted to.
If they are dependent on these huge profit margins as much
as I think they are, the necessary changes would be extremely
difficult to make, even if everyone was on board.

    • Scarsdale
      November 14, 2023, 07:44 | # | Reply

That “school board” is done, it won’t be hard to prove they
have been squandering the school budget if not outright
stealing funds for themselves. I’m talking mainly about the
Dean Allbrech and the bimbo to his right, Chelsea.

That’s why I see the core becoming a slum in a few decades,
once all the fringe worlds can defend themselves from their
fleets. The core has told themselves they had the power for so
long that when it’s gone, they are going to behave like spoiled
children and try to bully everyone… it’ll end badly.

Thanks. Actually it is going to be right at a quarter mile. It will
have 900 ft of cargo space with attachment points every 75 ft,
A 90′ x 150′ crew hab. 200 ft of propellant tanks and an
engineering section right at 75′ with vapor engines. The total
ought to be 1325′ or right at a quarter mile. We’re talking about
a big, slow, ungainly beast. I’m thinking something as maneuverable
as a full sized container ship or a supertanker. PC keeps talking
about weapons stations but any of those would have to be
located on the crew hab – no room anywhere else!

I’m taking today off. I’ve been putting 4 – 6 hours per day for
a good week now. Think I’ll watch “The Expanse” and look for
ideas of how to ornament a 3D model to make it look real. The
folks who did the CGI models for that show are amazing! I
turn green with envy whenever I watch that show.

It will need a few anti-meteor defenses. These big freighters will be
traveling an established, predictable route, well patrolled by the Navy.
There will be smaller fast freighters that go wherever their cargo takes them,
very high value cargoes will either carry weapons pods or hire an escort.
But yeah, they’ll all need anti-FOD weapons.

of what you think those things might look like. Also The only place
there is room to put such things is the crew hab. Everything aft
of where the Spine attaches to the crew hab is taken. Definitely\
no room on the engineering section. A sketch like you did about
            the spine will do.

            F.O.D. = Foreign. Object. Debris. / damage.

            example:
Weapon Pod: (otherwise know as ‘fodpod’) is a half-length “stand alone”
CIWS(seewiz) like pod, that is detached and stands off while loading
            and unloading.
the pods are move-able due to ‘no two loads are usually the same.’

It is confirmed “beyond a reasonable doubt” that these people are
