You just know what the cats are all thinking.
A smiling Capt. Te’gin, okay let the others
    have some fun now.

Ok, maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t it be a pretty good
Idea if the crews of the Tobies were in spacesuits in a combat
environment? I mean, don’t get me wrong. I know that their cockpits
are made with the clear polymer that’s as strong as steel, but stray
shrapnel could STILL penetrate. As a tech and a writer of science-
fiction, I ALWAYS believed in the idea of redundant backups.

As.an SF TTRPG gamer, I got a lot of flack for paying two and a half
times what a standard merchant ship of it’s size would cost, but when
we got hit with four frigate class pirate ships, losing about 1/3 of our
Primary systems, and still took out three pirates and disabled the fourth,
who then boarded the ship. We then had a little game of gravity pong
with the pirates, with the isolated gravity plate segments, knocking out
said pirates. We tagged the derelicts, towed the disabled pirate frigate
Into port, and, after repairs, managed to pay off the ship’s mortgage,
And still made a slight profit on the pirate capture. We lost some of our
cargo, but still made a profit There too.

For some reason, nobody ever complained about my wanting backups
on my backups. (I’m also former Navy, so I have a fair understanding
of both damage control and Murphy’s law.)

Just because the Universe is out to get us, and, will, in the end, doesn’t
mean we gotta make it easy for it to get us, now does it?

I agree, suits in combat would be a good idea, however the cockpit is pretty tight
they might not have suits designed for the Toby’s and other light craft. The combat
armor is too bulky for the pilots and a pressure suit could inflate (think Michelin man)
and render the pilot nearly immobile. Plus the helmet is bulky and would block side
views. They’d need one that was a bubble like what the early Apollo crews had with
polarizing coating to block the sun’s glare, but only on the side facing it. Think the
electronic welding helmets with insta-dark. (Those are niiiiiiiice, wish I had one back
      then.)

Don’t forget the Empire’s philosophy of battle as explained by
Captain Chardis in the last two panels here:
      http://thegentlewolf.net/comic/tgw-887/
The pilots and ships crews would reject suits, anyway, feeling that
anything which could withstand exposure to vacuum would be too
heavy, bulky and clumsy to be worth the trouble.
In short, while a vacuum suit would increase their odds of surviving
a hit, it would also increase the odds of their being hit in the first
      place.
Cats can’t stand headgear over their sensitive ears, anyway.

Chances are that whatever goes through the hull goes through any suit they
        could wear anyway.
And we have seen in Battlestar Galactica and The Expanse how quickly holes
can be patched. Any kind of vacuum suit suit would slow them down.

Depends. Small particles at orbital or higher speeds might penetrate the hull
and create holes large enough for a rapid loss of oxygen but unless they directly
hit the pilot (suit or not) would do no damage to them.

Locating and fixing a 1cm hole somewhere behind or below your seat might prove
to be less fun that it sounds. Especially during battle when you should be focusing
          on other things.

With standard spacesuits, I wholeheartedly agree.
The solution? Mechanical Counter Pressure suit.
We’re not talking space walks, but keeping the crew
alive. They can, and have been made and tested.
They’re similar to, but more advanced than the Air
        Force pressure suits.

No-brainer, she’ll say yes! If for no other reason, he’s treated her like
a lady from the start. And I wouldn’t be too surprised if she joined the
navy a bit down the road. She already knows he’d defend her with his
    last breath!

Wow, Toby’s got some major upgrades since we first saw them, Me Likey!
60 missiles drum-fed? Just wow… I’d hate to be on the reload crew, that
sounds like a rough duty. I’ve seen enough of the work on RL artillery gun
crews which kinda makes me glad I never did that.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought it was only 3 ships chasing the P’tera?
But considering how much damage they all took they still needed more!
Bullies will be bullies, until you palm one of their faces hard on the ground…
Once that Toby starts shooting it’ll be the same! Basically you run at you
target, palm their face while jumping forward. Your momentum knocks them
off balance allowing you to force them to fall back and slam the back of their
head into the ground taking out one of the clowns in one move. A few hard
smacks like would convince the core ships you are not one to “play fight”
that followed by a boom and the rest might just turn tail…

(That trick only works well if the opponent doesn’t know you can do that.)

Cissy can’t join the Navy, she’s too tall. All Navy personnel must be eligible
for shipboard duty, which has height limits due to interior design.
And the Tobies haven’t changed, there are two types of fighters. The Daggers,
which are designed to ride inside of larger ships and the Tobies, which are
parasite fighters, riding on the skin of larger ships. Each has it’s strengths and
weaknesses. Such as the Tobies can slave their armaments to the mother ship’s,
but riding in vacuum makes maintenance a pain at times. Reloading the
magazine is automated and fast, however. With ammunition and life support
replenishment, they can dock n’ git in less than three minutes.
And then there are the four parasite fighters of the Catia’s Pride, but those are
designed for purpose and aren’t used anywhere else.

I didn’t realize she was that tall, pity. When I seen Toby’s I was thinking of the
parasite fighters only, much less the Daggers.

            She’s 1.88 meters (6’2″). The Navy height limit is 1.82 (6’0″).
The tallest Sparrow crewman is 1.80 (5’11”).
