Laxative agents? One of my 2ndary AFS was chem-bio warfare (decom
team). I remember blood agents, nerve agents, blister agents, tear
agents and vomit agents. I don’t recall ever hearing about “laxative
agents”. Of course I got rid of my stripes in ’83 so I guess they
could’ve come out with something new in the intervening 40 years.
Can anyone bring me up to speed?
Is it required to be real? Maybe PC is being creative.
Real or not, if it’s fast acting, it could sure slow
someone down, especially in combination with the others.
I’ve never heard of gaseous or spray ‘laxative agents’ but
considering how many drugs can cause this sort of reaction,
I don’t really see this as an improbable riot control measure.
Just surprised no one has pursued it before
I’m not exactly an expert, but I don’t think there’s a know substance
which would be suitable as a fast-enough laxative for this use-case.
To be a useful addition to puke gas and the like it would have to cause
a *massive* , immediate reaction.
(Or else you’d better add another flashbang or such)
I guess since he wasn’t given any kill orders a non-lethal course
is just as good. A laxative agent would be effective, but slow acting
anything that would cause instant diarrhea could be fatal, forcing
the body to dump that much fluid into the colon would cause severe
dehydration. But it is a funny idea 😉 I’ve had an intestinal blockage
for months, and while the insta-relief sounds like a good idea it really
isn’t, the colon-cleansing forced me to drink nearly 2 gallons a day
for weeks until I was clear, but it beats the surgery!
No treaty isn’t good but it’s clear that there maybe one in time, after
the less friendly elements in the core are resolved. This agreement
isn’t a written one, but it is as good. The P’tera are strong and even
dangerous to anyone that crosses them so tread carefully Taritha,
although you have done so much in a short period of time to confirm
this “non-treaty”.
I interpreted her “no treaty” speech to be more a long the lines of
“We don’t need a formal treaty because we’re friends now and thus
our honor binds us more than any piece of paper could”
(Ok. She’s explicitly saying something like “I am your friend even
if you don’t have to make me the same promise” – oh and she’s
speaking as an official representative, too, if I recall correctly)
Oh of course that was implied from the moment Chardis said
she couldn’t make the call as her ship being Taritha’s personal
use. Taritha clearly decided to make everything as official as
as she could before moving on. A personal friendship with
The queen is the only thing the Queen could do since they
are know as mercenaries only. Entering in to a treaty would
of changed that dynamic in a huge way.
PC, (or anybody else) I’m totally not getting the “no treaty of trade or defense” thing.
My understanding is that treaties are the equivalent for nation states of contracts for
individuals. I guess it’s the “there can be no treaty” part which me stumped. Why
can’t there be a treaty? I don’t think it is because Taritha doesn’t have the authority
to make a treaty with the Ptera. So what gives? Queen Ann’gijn seems a bit surprised?
Non plussed? Disappointed? What’s going on?
Because a formal treaty would have to be recorded on Xanadu in order
to be legal, and the Ptera have never entered into a treaty before.
It would make the other Core worlds wonder what was going on.
A treaty has legal authority, a (man’s) word has moral authority,
and Ptera and Empire have reputations for keeping their word.
Both parties know it.
Under those circumstances,
this agreement is more binding than a treaty,
while being less public.
Okay. Makes sense. Sometimes I can be a tad dense.
I didn’t realize about any treaty having to be
registered on Xanadu. Makes sense to keep the
assholes in the core worlds in the dark as much
as possible.
Don’t feel bad I had to read back through more carefully to
fully understand the meaning of it all. Both sides know an
official treaty would trigger the unfriendly aspects of the core
in a huge way so a friendship bond is more of an unspoken
one to the public.
For example, as far as I understand, there’s no central
authority on Earth left that would be capable and willing
to enforce any treaties between all those factions that
formed after the fall. (Let alone accepted by all parties
involved).
I bet half of the new nations are still not willing to
acknowledge the mere existence of the other half.
And beyond that, I’m pretty sure that no Earthly faction
outside the Empire is willing to accept them speaking
for the whole planet.
There’s tons and tons of potential for conflicts here,
like one of the core worlds forming an alliance with
someone like the CSA.
Of course this would be a rather one-sided agreement
since any local rival of the Empire would be much
much weaker than any of the core worlds.
But with a little off-world help they
could become a real pain in the ass.
The Empire is the only government strong enough to
defend the Earth, much less have any kind of space
program. I doubt any of the honest races out there
would have anything to do with the other kingdoms.
I can see the China government making the effort
but fall short unless they can get the intel of who to
contact.
If you think about it, The Empire could easily take over the
entire planet with little effort but no one wants that, too
many “problem children” out there for them to deal with.
Military power isn’t always the best answer is it?
And there’s probably more than enough nuke weapons out there.
What happened to the arsenal of countries like Pakistan and India?
Or North Korea. Thinking about it, they’re probably still very much
the way they were before the fall, right? If you’ve been rock bottom
for decades, there’s really much height to fall from, is there?
And don’t forget that conquering a world full still full of probably
billions would take resources the Empire might not willing to spent.
Not speaking about securing your conquest.
Maybe you could persuade many of them, maybe even most of them.
But it’d take time and bind resources you probably rather
dedicate to other causes.
The moment the core worlds learn about Earth and the political
situation there is the moment you can forget about worrying any
local player contacting them.
I’d be very surprised if the “shit bats” didn’t have some kind
of espionage network. I’d be even more surprised if they didn’t
find a way to infiltrate Earth.
The thing is that to any of the races we are humans and
are treated as such. It’s racism basically but it is what it
is. it might be something the Shitbats or the Grasseaters
might try after losing their place on the council or what
ever triggers them. I suspect they will be focused on the
Catians more than anyone since they were seen first and
the most.
Only problem with that is all the treaties that
The Pride has signed with the Fringe members
would of been registered as well, and that would
of blown the lid off of their efforts there. Granted
many joined the Empire but that’s along the same
lines.
“trade agreements” with who? the Cats.? all we
have seen is some “odd” humans helping the cats..
this is the first offering of the Empire,.
outside the Cats, few know of the “Terrans”.
I have a “final fight” idea that sadly reminds me of
some of the anime saga scenario’s where the core
shows up at either Catha or Earth in force to stop
them and all the Fringe forces and now the P’tero
fleets pop out of stealth and it becomes a HUGE
space battle… A bit childish I know but it fits.
The CSA has been begging for a “refit” for a while now
I’m hoping this will end it as a major problem for the
Empire and the smaller kingdoms in the area. Or at
least weaken it to the point where it’ll be years before
they can recover enough to be an issue again.
The shitbats didn’t get their position of power and wealth by just
being better leaders or because the other like them.
They are using methods like intimidation, terror, blackmail.
They’re very interested in maintaining the Status Quo,
because it’s them who profit the most of it.
And they’ve been very concerned about some of the changes that
happened lately.
So I’d find it very strange if they were not actively investigating the
whole matter.
And I’d find it hard to believe that they would not find at least some
Terrans or even Catians to recruit as spies – there’s always someone
who doesn’t like their leaders or who thinks they could make a better
living if they helped the other side – especially if that side is wielding
the power.
I’m sure they will try but I doubt anyone with real intel
would take more than threats or intimidation to convert.
I’d say China in that respect would be the greatest threat
because they have the most to gain. The smaller
Kingdoms would be more apped to ask for much and offer
little. If they didn’t panic and open fire at the first aliens
to land.
Never underestimate stupidity and greed.
For example, some tiny local faction might have no interest at all to
go to space, but wouldn’t mind an external force to “soften up” the
Empire and keep ’em busy for a while.
Or some individual just sees the fast cash.
And it’s entirely possible that the shitbats could convince that they’d
be winning the conflict anyway, so at least some factions might be willing
to side with them.
They wouldn’t need inside help just target space ports
which places both Jerico and China on the list. I’m willing
to bet the ones in Texas and Florida were hit by nukes.
Spaceport? where in Jerico is a ‘spaceport’?
they have a “Base” BUT they Don’t launch
in a normal manner.. And they would go after
the station first,, if somehow they got past
the wormhole flux giving them away..
Yup. Even if they do have FTL, they don’t know where Terra is.
Thanks to their “trade” mission, they have star maps of Catia,
from which they can figure out where it is, but all they know
about Terra is that there’s a wormhole at Catia that leads to
it. Reaching that wormhole and passing through it might be
a neat survival problem, as only Imperial ships are allowed
to pass through without being rapidly disassembled.
It’s 4 am here I’m staying awake in case the power fails
my father is 88 and wouldn’t last long if we lose power or
my wife’s oxygen for that matter. We’ve got backup but
I’ve got to be awake to switch over… sleepless nite for me
I’m near Savannah, GA.
Temps are supposed to get into the teens for the next few days.
Larder is full, twelve gallons of distilled water, LOTS of coffee,
creamer and sugar. All three vehicles are fueled and anti-freezed,
(I doubt if I’ll be riding the motorcycle, though, but it has three
gallons for the generator, if needed.) Generator is inside to stay
warm in case I need to move it outside and start it, extra gasoline
in shed with motorcycle. Never again: https://www.deviantart.com/cat-man-dancing/art/Something-I-never-wanted-to-see-723675092
Wind is still pretty strong but the gusts have calmed a bit.
so far so good i guess, damned tired and checking on them
regularly, glad they are sleeping through the worst of it.
Knowing my home town, it’s no doubt buried by snow now.
They actually had the plows running so I knew it was going
to get bad here. gonna try and lay down for a bit, only nice
thing about being a light sleeper is anything changes it’ll
wake me
I hear you. It’s 17°F (-8°C) here in south Texas with a
“real feel” of 11°F (-11.667°C). Fortunately it is partly
cloudy with 0% chance of precipitation so the roads are
in good shape. I just hope the blasted wind turbines out
in west Texas don’t decide to freeze up like they did in
’21. I’m not interested in another round of statewide
rolling blackouts.
It’s not supposed to rain here until temperatures are back in the ’50s.
Thank god – Icy roads in Georgia are a nightmare, people think that
4WD gives them God-like powers over the laws of friction and inertia.
Just for “completeness” – we had some pretty low-ish temperatures (like -8°C, which is rare in December)
last weekend, followed by a really ugly combination of frozen ground and drizzle with temperatures around
the freezing point (resulting in two days of absolutely murderously iced pavements and roads).
Today we have rain and around +8°C … not really fun, but normal for the season.
it’s stopped at -7 F or -22 C here wind has mostly died down
normally it would be 30-35 F or -1 – 2 C they say by next
weekend it’ll be back up… not getting my hopes up
It’s up to a balmy 34°F (1.1°C) at just after 1500 CST. We’re
supposed to have cold nights until Wednesday with 50s (11-ish C)
the rest of the week. Luckily there is no precip in the forecast.
Personally if I were offered the choice of a few degrees warming
with concomitant loss of a meter or so of coast versus needing
snow tires I’d opt for the warming. Even South Padre is more
than a couple of meters above sea level so I don’t see the big
deal. If sea levels rise I figure the Dutch know all about managing
land below sea level and they’ve been doing it for centuries.

Tear gas is old as anything but a vaporized version of my chemo
med from last year would do the rest of the job quite nicely…
Citrus Nitrate in aerosol form? Might do the trick…
I’m not exactly an expert, but I don’t think there’s a know substance
which would be suitable as a fast-enough laxative for this use-case.
To be a useful addition to puke gas and the like it would have to cause
a *massive* , immediate reaction.
(Or else you’d better add another flashbang or such)
A muscle relaxant, geared towards the sphincter muscles, would likely do the trick.
However, the side effects could be… Messy…
I guess since he wasn’t given any kill orders a non-lethal course
is just as good. A laxative agent would be effective, but slow acting
anything that would cause instant diarrhea could be fatal, forcing
