That looks better for Cissy that she’s was just checking on
the sincerity of the Impsec’s intentions for her. Maybe now
she’ll relax just a bit? She’s getting closer to Alex too. Meeting
the family is a big step in that direction, I just hope it goes
better for her than when I met my wife’s family LOL!

and the Imperial Navy that no treaty could make.
There is a word for a person, usually an officer, assigned to a role in a different
military hierarchy like a ship’s company than the one to which he holds allegiance,
like Elias here. I thought it was ‘brevet’, but an online search tells me that’s
something different. I am a bit surprised that the Empire is so freely accepting
such non-Imperial citizens into its military, even if their true loyalty is to a nominal
semi-ally of the moment.
Actually, this is the Imperial merchant fleet, not the Imperial Navy.
Although the Imperial Marines will accept anyone that can meet the requirements and
not complicate logistics, which is why they don’t accept females. Which is also why the
Navy is majority female to such an extent.
The Legion, of course, will accept anyone who is not morally repulsive. They’re expanding,
as well.
The Merchant Marine is run from Catia, and the idea has always been to include other
species in commerce. Eventually the Catians will be leasing freighters to any member
species that wants to participate in commerce. But that comes later.
Captain Chardis has some good reasons to want Ptero crew on her ship. More later.
I swear PC sometimes I think you have a year’s (if not more) worth of

I had thought that since the Pride was strictly a diplomatic ship now it
wasn’t part of ImpMerc any more, but part of the diplomatic corp.
I had figured once the Fringe races were able to handle it they would
trade directly with the worlds they are trading with. All would be a part
of ImpMerc and share their gross incomes accordingly. That way the navy
could continue to build and improve the tech needed to keep up with
any and all opposing forces.
One of the reasons that the Navy is able to expand so rapidly is that it has
an absolute lock on space mining and zero-gee/vacuum materials refining and
processing.
For example, foamed metal casting of various densities for civilian manufacturing
and alloys that would be impossible in a gravity well. The Navy is doing quite well
financially. Since nobody was involved in space mining or manufacturing, they are
not taking anything away from civilians, and everyone benefits from the results.
However, all income goes into the Imperial coffers and (most) is returned in the
military budgets. The rest supports other imperial responsibilities, of which… There
really aren’t very many. Again, outside of general defense, the Empire doesn’t do much.
I had read some on the concept of foamed metals I know they did a few
experiments on the ISS but there’s little on how they did it. Of course I
haven’t looked it up in a while so yeah. I’m guessing they melt the metal
and inject an inert gas that’s heated as well to create the foam.
I just ordered a new printer (FDM, I still don’t have the shop ready for
resin) and I’m itching to try a honey comb style of printing that raises the
over all strength of printed parts without the added weight. The new printer
has all the upgrades and then some that I did to my old one. It’s a Sovol v6
that claims to be able to print carbon fiber nylon out of the box.

Why would you want to ship the materials “downwell” to process?
I can come up with at least a half dozen ways of refining materials that would work in microgravity,
with current technology. While fuel might be an issue, mining “wet” asteroids or comets is doable.
Again, whole lot cheaper than going “downwell” to Earth.
In fact, I’d be interested to see if there are any private companies setting up lunar and Mars
colony/facilities to support space manufacturing / orbital trade stations.
As I’m pretty sure an interstellar war is on the not too distant horizon, it might be an idea to
Maybe do a few side stories to cover this? Just a thought.
I’ve noticed that anyone that doesn’t harm other people by choice
or for enjoyment have a place in the Empire. Largely the victims
of those who do and are keep the “unworthy” from taking part of
decisions in government actions. They are looked at as “weak” and
“only good for work and sex” and turning food into crap. It’s
largely those few that are smart enough to know they can’t use
“the system” to make the right changes, but instead make the
decision to to act when it IS possible. Or help those who can
do something about it.

“Brevet” is usually a temporary field promotion.
It could be made permanent later. “Could”, but not always “is”.
Look at the history of George Armstrong Custer. He got promoted
and busted more times than a roller coaster goes up and down.
(IMHO, I think he got everything that was coming to him at Little
Big Horn. Too bad he took so many other good people down with him)
Reading the top story keeps giving me flash-back of meeting and dealing
with my in-laws, My wife had dropped most of her accent after the first
20 years but at the same time I’ve picked up a bit of hers heh…
I have a bit of a studder and it seems the accent helps… go figure…

Mining 16 Psyche probably doesn’t hurt either…
Without grav tech mining asteroids and sending the ore down
to Earth is probably too expensive to really “work out”.
Unless you find a way to transport and land the samples safely
and inexpensively using only stuff you can mine for.
Transporting the fuel from Earth for the return trip
to an asteroid would be an economic nightmare.
With the Empire’s grav tech this point is, of course, moot.
Why would you want to ship the materials “downwell” to process?
