I will never understand why good people such as the boy there – or the sheriff for that matter – voluntarily serve corrupt regimes such as that of “King” Chaka.

A big part of it IMAO is that people have a strong tendency to see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe. If you ask random strangers on the street, without knowing their politics, which of the latest four presidencies (counting the current) was the most corrupt and which was the most trustworthy, you will find all four in both sets of answers. And I’m not advocating for or against any of them, I’m just saying that confirmation bias is real and pervasive, and gets worse the lazier a person’s thought processes are, but nobody is immune. It’s a thing we all have to fight if we value Truth.

As was stated on Babylon 5, “truth is a three edged sword. There’s your truth, there’s their truth and then the actual truth.” The problem is, these days, the Media tends to leave out portions of the Truth to better ‘spin’ the narrative to either what will entice the most advertiser dollars, or to bend political perception to the narrative that will also bring in the ratings or political perspective that they wish to support. As Simon and Garfunkle once said, “…anyway you look at it you lose…”

And then of course there’s the answer that comes from Bushido. Paraphrasing heavily, it’s no strain to serve a good and honorable master honorably, it’s a pleasure. It’s serving a corrupt and despicable master honorably that truly tests your worth. I seriously doubt that very many people we encounter daily are that devoted to Bushido however. I’m not.

It was George Walden who had the idea of making Loria the Planetary Manager. Thanks, George.
