The Treaty is between the two Navies. It appears limited. I would not expect either nation to be fully bound beyond their Navies.
I would expect further commitment to require each nation’s additional choices after they consider the merits of the situation beyond
what each Navy decides to do. That said, many actions of the Navies would likely be supported by the underlying nations / empires.
The Pterans appear to be a consistent and honorable group. Considering that all trade passes through where the Navies operate,
this is an important change of circumstances. In a negative way, the withdrawal of the British Royal Navy’s protection of Unites States
vessels resulted in predators/ pirates/ and especially Islamic pirates capturing US ships across the globe. A large amount of the US cash
GDP was paid to ransom slaves and property taken. Thomas Jefferson discussed the piracy with various Muslim ambassadors when he
was US Ambassador to France. It eventually required the USA building a blue water fleet to counter mainly the Islamic attacks around
the world. Eventually that fleet transported US Marines to The Barbary Coast where they attacked the Barbary States to destroy as
many pirates as they could. The US Navy and Marines did similar in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and wherever needed.
Yes. That is why it is such a vital and valuable naval alliance.
Their decisions concerning everything from basic trade to the disposition
of slavers caught while in space would have the weight of action.
The enslavement by controlling trade is something the Empire’s Navy
has already acted upon concerning more than one world already.
Cofeve is now building one world’s population and life span while
free trade enables that world to engage in free and open price discovery.
The exploitation (effective enslavement) by the space
travel enabled dictating prices is over on that world.
Yeah. Other than the Marines, Air Force, Rangers
and other forces that were involved in the war.
But I guess fighting on another star system’s
planet doesn’t count as interstellar.
Which makes this treaty even more important.
This gives the Empire’s ships additional ports
in the Core Worlds should they need it.
Also possible staging areas for the fleet.
Even if the Pterans don’t support an action
with ships of their own, this is invaluable.
Drat! I’m disappointed. After the buildup in
Friday’s installment (especially panel #8) I
was looking forward to finding out what Ariste’s
response was. Okay, PC, do we ever get to
learn how Ariste responded to the Pteran Queen?
Drat! Why did you have to go and give him ideas? Sheesh!
Honestly, I wasn’t aware we were approaching the 1k mark.
The page number doesn’t show up the way I normally
come in so just hadn’t noticed.
One-sidedly declaring a to have a mutual treaty
based on the honor-bond between a small group
of individuals does sound a bit like a honor-trap.
Or at least like a power-play on her (the Queen’s) side.

Don’t forget that the Imperial Navy is the only part of
the military that’s operating on an interstellar scale.

Patience, Bill. Patience.
Maybe he’s building up suspense for
the 1000th post “anniversary”?
Don’t say that or PC’ll think it’s a good idea.
Inquiring minds want to know, now.
Well, it is a good idea.
After all, I have to do something
to mark 1000 pages, don’t I?
