An independent species as a loyal ally that is also probably one
of the larger military forces within the Core Worlds?
Add that to the Dogushians as a now former mercenary force?
Now the question is, what kind of secrets are still buried within
the Core Worlds. And is a game changer among them like the jump
point independent FTL drive?
Captain Ket’rrt was clear that they can’t share tech however
that might change seeing how things have been going on.
It will take time for all of the P’tera to learn of this decree and
some may not like it, it’s risky at least for now until the Empire
and the Catians prove themselves to all races.
I was hoping both story lines would merge at some point
thanks PC!
I can only guess how excited Teresa is about to become
this is HUGE in the grand scheme! Thanks to the Catians
little trick they now have a powerful core race supporting
them. Combined with the friendships they have created
in the fringe worlds plus how many have joined the Empire
they will be able to spread prosperity to all in a few years,
once the nay-sayers are “ignored” of course. My mind boggles
at all those races out there building ships based on the Empire’s
design, it will be a sight to behold….
I think Borogrov needs a new title because she was the first one and
being in the Empire’s original fleet, to go overall commander it would
make sense. That would make her brother admiral of the earth’s fleet.
It was brought up in TNG during another one of Q’s “lessons” but I’m
drawing a blank. Downside of being retired I don’t have to get up early
but when I do my brain’s mush…
I just had a thought. What if the “secret of FTL” isn’t a device but the stealth
systems? Captain Ket’rrt’s ship flew into Xanadu space and parked 300
km from the Pride and NO ONE noticed? At all? Seems to me if the stealth
systems are that good they could cross a jump point, recover, and provide
cover fire for any other ships that enter the system. An entire fleet could
come and go with care and the only tell-tale would be a flare in the portal.
Any unaware system might miss those events, especially if it’s brief and
spaced out enough to not see them.
Since the Imperial military, following the lead of the Legion, has been kept
top-light in the officers’ ranks, Admiral Mistrial Borogrov is Grand Admiral,
with five stars. She also commands Home Fleet, (First Fleet). Admiral Ariste,
Third Fleet, is a Fleet Admiral, with three stars, as is Admiral Viktor Borogrov,
as he commands the construction fleet. Squadron commanders within the
fleets are Commodores, with one star. Then there are Captains, Commanders,
and Lieutenants. The Navy, like all other branches, relies more heavily
on it’s NCOs than our modern military.
They choose the best person for the job or mission, without regard to
non-warfighting distinctions.
The Marines, for example, are all male to keep logistics simple, and are
primarily Terran, except where an alien species can, due to their
physiology, fill a special role, such as Cat-Terran scout teams.
Due to physiological differences, ships crews are not deliberately
integrated. For example, due to different environmental requirements,
Aquatane and Terran can not serve on the same ships for very long.
First Fleet, or Home Fleet, is, in reality, commanded by it’s own Fleet
Admiral, the Grand Admiral has other things to worry about. But she
keeps the white beret, as she is still technically the captain of the
first ship to go to the moon, which is in a museum, but still carried
as “active” on Navy rolls.
There are some races that depend on clans or packs like the Cats
and the Dogs, so forcing them to man a deep space ship for
weeks or months could cause un-necessary stress for a mixed
crew. Mirel was suffering at first when she joined flight school
but in her case as a scout she was used to being out of touch
with her clan now and then. I for one would not want to serve
on a Shitbat ship heh..
Not to mention spaceship design, where interior space is critical. The
Ratians, for example, are small and don’t mind cramped quarters, so
Navy fast scout ships will be designed with Rat crews in mind. Every
time I see a model of a starship with huge interior spaces with high
ceilings I cringe. It might be necessary in some spaces for mental health,
but working spaces? If you have that much room, add more life
support, weapons, or just consumable storage! You can never have too
much food, water, or oxygen packed away.
And nobody has ever come away from a battle thinking, “I wish I hadn’t
brought so much ammunition along!”
So very true about ammo and I agree TV shows like wide open spaces
simply because it gives them room for the crews behind the camera. I
think it was Patrick Steward that said the same thing about the
Enterprise D bridge. I always wondered if you designed that much over
head space why not add more shielding and LOOSE THAT STUPID WINDOW!
jeez….
At least the TOS era the hallways were barely big enough for 2 people
to walk side by side. Plus the quarters were small even the captains.
Babylon 5 did a much better job of practical set design and even they
had huge bridges etc. I think the best one was the Alien movie; small
screens, each crew member had their own console, and the only rooms
that were large was the hypersleep chamber, eating area, and the
launch bay.
You’d think they would figure out that most cameras can be as small as
an old 8mm video camera with high quality video and terabytes of storage.
The Pride is very close to what you were wanting and still have space for
the Toby crews. I had a chance when I was young to get on that captured
U-boat in Chicago talk about cramped! I banged my head twice on the
pipes hanging down and I felt bad for the bridge crew if anyone ate
bratwurst and sauerkraut! HAH!
I remember how long it took for Spock to cross from one station to another.
And how Captain Kirk, the one man who had to be aware of everything,
couldn’t see anyone’s console without twisting around or getting out
of his seat.
That never made any sense, why couldn’t the captain have a
redundancy console? The one man/woman that has the final
say on what needs to be done has to wait on verbal reports?
To enable something on the ship that might save everyone’s
lives? “Captain! An object dead ahead, moving at us head on!”
“Well what is it?” ” A miss…” BOOM!” yeah no…
Yeah same here it was like ’72 or ’73 I remember the
warning talk about how some of the systems still work
and he blared a klaxon to demonstrate. Class trip.
filming,, this was the 60’s,. cameras were as
big as a human,. then you have/had ‘blocking’ ,
no character could block or obscure another,.
the original bridge was to only have 3 posts..
but,, because the director wanted em all in one
spot they added the others,, which is why the
weapons station was else where in early episodes .
yeah I know what you mean but look at Strange new worlds,
the Captains “cabin” is basically a reman’ of 10-forward! A grill?
Fire place? A bar? jeez… TOS never had that much space!
I watched the 1st episode of SNW and it was okay. I like Anson Mount. I enjoyed his work in
“Hell On Wheels” and he makes a good Christopher Pike. I do NOT like the ship. At first glance
it looks pretty much like the TOS ship but it is too damned big. Way too kuch interior space.
I have visited the battleship U.S.S. Texas and while it is quite large the interior is anything but
spacious. There used to be a former WWII fleet submarine adjacent to the Texas and I
went on it also. Definitely not for claustrophobes but then from the pictures I’ve seen
of modern submarines they do not exactly impress me as being roomy I have also been
on the U.S.S. Lexington parked at Corpus Christi. With the exception of the hangar deck (which of nacessity was
fairly spacious) the thing is pretty cramped. They have set up some of the original crew
berthing areas as they would have been in wartime and I guarantee they were damned cramped.
I have also seen videos of current generation U.S. supercarriers and they aren’t much
roomier. I suspect that part of the reason the TOS sets were so tight was to keep costs down
but I also believe that part if it was that Roddenberry and Matt Jeffries were both WWII veterans
and were acquainted with how a ship might actually be built. I don’t figure anyone who
helped design the sets in SNW has ever been with a mile of a real ship.
As a mechanic I truly feel I missed out on SO much just because my
back had “too much curvature” to carry a field pak… I’m not into ships too
much but I would of loved to work on those types of machinery. Heck
I’m seriously thinking of building my own 3D printers from scratch just
for the fun of it!
Yeah they moved it to the pilot’s station for most of
the show and the first movie then when they were
fighting Kahn it was to the right of the turbo lift.
Queen Ann’gijn weary of status quo? The Wolf Empire is certainly
going to be turning all that inside out and upside down! Such an
opportunity to make changes that normally would not have gotten any traction :}
I still wonder if the Dragons will make a showing on Xanadu it
would shut up quite a few people and worry more. Granted the
Empire will do most of the work but a show of support at some
point would end a lot of opposition. Plus with their power only
the really dumb or panicked might try something. Which has
already happened a few times. I just hope things don’t get
too bloody.
I remember when he first fired it my brother-in-law recorded it
and posted it on YouTube even though he braced himself, it rocked
him on one leg and he yelled out a WOOOO! LOL you had to see it….
Took him 20 minutes to dig in enough to recover what was left of
the slug from our range 🙂

Rob has suggested that she be called Grand Admiral.
True, A Marshal is crossing the army/navy boundaries.
Ok I found it, a French army Marshal is what outranks an admiral.
TNG S1-E10 Data stated he was wearing the uniform and Riker
said as much.
Status quo can be boring and damaging.
Time to improve the space neighborhood.
Stagnation, it’s a problem we are facing in real life now.

I often have to make walls invisible to get the camera positioned

I wouldn’t bet the mortgage payment on that happening.
