I might lean towards the assumption that our
    redheaded anti-death-penalty supporter
could be persuaded to make four exceptions…

Also, some Dogishuans might discover that the
fixed facts they knew, no longer are so fixed …

One can hope! It’s going to happen one way or another the king is just
making sure that no one will rant and condemn him for the decision
      he’s about to make.

I think the dogishuans are going to break their “shocked” look by time
they are brought up to speed on things and might have to run home on
      some “personal business” lol.

The Catians have definitely made an impact on the interplanetary scale
the core humans are getting an idea of it just not to the extent as
yet and the dogs will be called on to “fix” the problem which we know
they will refuse and be dragged into the coming conflict.

My sympathies to Tenshi (blonde teen) for having to watch such horrors.
    She’ll be scarred for life.
I wonder if it would be therapeutic/cathartic to offer to allow her to
“pull the switch” (for whatever means of execution is carried out in
the Wolf Empire) against these rabid animals.

And it looks as if Big Red may change her mind about being a SJW
and become an All Are Equal Under the Law warrior.

I agree I was just 18 when all that happened to me I’m still haunted
to this day I think they will all need some therapy including Big Red
revenge rarely fixes anything so pulling the lever won’t stop the
nightmares I’m afraid let’s not forget the survivors they may never
be able to live around other people without the terrors.
Tenshi is a strong girl I’m sure with time and help she’ll be ok but
she will have a strong reason like myself to hate the sick freaks
that do those types of things to others. For those men I think it’s
time to bring back the guillotine! Of course after the local pig
farmer loans out his knife to help removing certain bits first…
and using a branding iron to sear the wound so they won’t bleed out
      or get an infection…

ok,. i’m all for punishment fit the crime.
but there are two main reasons why not.
    1) torture of people for confession.
    2) to appease the ‘non death’ , for a
    quick painless (?), quiet exit..

of this meeting they even provided the court hard evidence just by making fap videos

In ways I hate to say this, but I’m with Angel here. Past this point, hell,
long before this point, all this pointless action is doing is trying to get
these people to make decisions based on emotion, revulsion, not hard logic,
visceral reaction and not rational decision. This is wrong.

I was in Oklahoma when Timothy McVeigh’s trial took place. I was hoping for
a change of venue to Tulsa, didn’t happen. I wanted to be in that jury pool
so I could say “I don’t want to see an endless parade of evidence and
witnesses telling me a horrible thing happened and lots of people are hurting.
I know that. I only want to know two things: What evidence do you have that
he did it, and has he given up all the information he has on who was in on
it?” Everything else is trying to brainwash the jury. (And yes, I know it was
in retaliation for Waco, but I knew I would never have the chance to be on a
jury for those murderers. Hell, some of the excretions got medals.)

There are only a handful of pertinent questions here:
Is there any doubt they did these things? No.
Can they be “cured”? Probably not.
    Are they worth curing? No.
Do we ever want to have the victim’s loved ones
meet them on the street, cured or not? No.
    End of discussion.

The King and the Empress have made their decisions this is to help any one’s doubts
on that decision being valid and the video is hard evidence it was the prosecution’s
exhibit #1 I’d say. These guys were cocky and arrogant to the max and it finally got
them caught. If Ryder hadn’t tried to get drunken “revenge” who’s to say how many
more would of fell victim to these sick bastards.

For me that is the scariest part. Ryder and company outed
themselves. One wonders how many “Mitch Ryders” there
actually are in the real world right now!

Lots of comments on the Ryder storyline.
Many don’t align with my viewpoint.

A larger view is always helpful and I understand your feelings on a matter like this
people like myself that has either experienced this sort of event or been close to
someone that has will almost always have a strong knee-jerk reaction. It was 5
years before I even considered dating as did my sister and we were just kids.

I liked the story with the Hunt, but this is a different situation, many times worse and not involving
Catians. No need for creating the illusion they can earn exile instead of death. I thought there were
too many victims, no way to offer closure to all their kith and kin. But I thought of a way. Sort of like
a firing squad, in reverse. Gas chamber used for example, but method could be applied to whatever
form is chosen. Put all the monsters into the gas chamber. Give everyone who wants one a box with
a button on it. Tell them when the person pronouncing sentence reaches “mercy on your soul”, at
least one of the buttons will be activated. If at least one of the active buttons is pressed, the cyanide
pellets will drop into the acid. That way, they are all free to choose whether they feel like they have
earned vengeance (and found out how little it’s worth), or console themselves with the fact that they
might NOT have taken even these worthless lives. No one will know if they pushed or not, but in fact
every button is activated. The odds of nobody pushing are way less than everybody pushing, but I
suspect it would be somewhere in between. And yes, I know how nasty death by cyanide is.

As I understand it, the Core Worlds merchant fleet, or their military support, could only attack
Catia and their merchants if Catians are declared to be a new species, not covered by the
inclusion of Humans in the Mutual Defense Treaty, and not included in their own right yet either.
That possibility is not one I saw before it was presented, and it makes a lot of the fretting on
the part of the new and old members of the Empire make more sense. That is the path the
“Goblins” seemed to be advocating, and it seems to be the potential outcome of the one
Mitchell is proposing. This makes me wonder: how much time has gone by and does the Empire
have enough of their advanced ships to protect Catia AND their new members / vulnerable
acquisitions. Of course, the bottleneck each wormhole presents combined with their temporary
disruption of electronics and brain chemistry makes them fairly effective defense chokepoints.
But we’ve talked about ways to get past that before, and now we know that Mitchell and the
Lamians know of a back door through Lamia to Catia. I hope that vital intelligence has already
been passed on to the Empire. This could get very ugly, or not depending on how the votes
    go in the Council.

    • Scarsdale
      April 24, 2022, 07:27 | # | Reply

The whole joining the council is clearly a trick to delay the Catians from taking any
action while the the core humans figure things out plus the aggressive races might
“solve” the problem for them? As far as the readiness of the Empire they’ve been
grinding out ships and resources ever since they first met the Catains and the Dragons
as to being enough it’s hard to say from what I got from the story line it was manpower
rather than assets was the biggest issue.

      April 24, 2022, 20:13 | # | Reply

As far as we have seen, the Empire has taken the the Dreadnought and
the Heavy Cruisers as a baseline. Compared to them the Catia’s Pride
got two upgrades. If those ships were state-of-the-art in service in
the Core Worlds fleet, they have the weakness of getting all their
power from their engines. Something the Empire might have confirmed
from their computers. So the opening salvos of the war will be very
      one-sided.
That could change drastically when the Core Worlds build new ships.
This is were the delaying tactic comes in. The later the Core Worlds
find out how powerful the Empire’s ships are, the less resources they
will have to actually build new ships. It is quite possible that
without the Mutual Defense Treaty that the Core Worlds will target
each other in the search for resources.
And if it is as the Catia’s Pride suspects from what they have seen
in this system, the Core Worlds might be weaker than anyone thinks.
It looks like they have gotten very complacent in their power Though
it looks like the Empire is trying to stack as many advantages as it
can. We will see if they were overly cautious or not.

Considering the object lesson we get right now on how much dependent
we are on a smoothly working supply chain is, it will probably the
same or even worse over interstellar distances.

I never understood the gas chamber. Nasty chemicals that must be contained and disposed of.
Why not flood the chamber with nitrogen. Same result, and if the chamber leaks, no big deal.
Just make sure it leaks OUT (positive pressure).
But I like Jochi’s multiple button concept.

hence why they are not used, in the US.
(only if all else fail.. an only 6 states..)
too inhumane an nasty, some cases took way to long..
      most now use ‘lethal injection’,,
put to sleep, then stop heart..

I believe it was a throw-back from WWII they saw how effective mustard gas was
and thought it would be cheaper than the electric chair etc… Humane? Uh no nor
was the chair or hanging neither was 100% effective the injection is however they
closely monitor the “patient” and increase the dosage until heart/brain function stops.

no.. not a throw back.. first use was in 1800’s,.
and first ‘attempt’ in the US was 1924..
also no.. cost was not the issue.. whereas humane issue was,. the
humane issue was they were not 100% effective, and messy (a few
cases were very messy..). and once they found out how messy the
gas chamber was,. they opted for the “Lethal Injection”..

Leaving aside whether there should be a death penalty. When
their time comes up, a .45 between the eyes, and drop the garbage

No need for such a support industry that only exists so hypocrites

Puts me in mind of a word/term I picked up from Card’s book, Speaker
For the Dead. When he describes several different kinds of ‘other’
then ‘your group’. Varelse: The slavering ‘beast’ clawing at your
door. That is what these filth are. Varelse. This is not to say it
is an actual beast. It is a sentient that is so wrong and murderous
it is worse then a beast. And they deserve to be disposed of. Slowly.
It’s a good word. And sums them up completely.

There is a difference between what they deserve and what Society deserves.
THEY deserve to have visited upon them every torment they gave their victims,
yes. SOCIETY deserves to be rid of them. It does NOT deserve to descend to
their level of evil. You have to keep both in mind.

Oh trust me I’m on the fence about this I help out at my sister’s livestock farm
she’s got every possible form of vermin there I spend as much time setting traps
and removing the remains. Plus the annual butchering hits me hard everytime.
And that is what these guys are: vermin. I wear a .22 Ruger semi-auto at all
times when I’m in the pastures a close call from a small pack of coyotes taught
me that. If you don’t protect what matters then you have nothing. The Empire
has taken that view and has simplified the legal system… sadly there will always
      be vermin.

Yeah I picked up on that too it’s what I would of done I’m sure someone if not Carl
will follow her to at least check up on her. It would of been no different if this was a
real life trial and these were the jury it’s brutal and seems thoughtless and/or heartless
but the facts must be known by other than the judge and arresting officers or due
process breaks down fast and the imperial legal system comes under unnecessary
scrutiny and attack. As would the real life system.

I really expect the last person to HAVE to quit watching will be Angel — the one that least
needed to see this to make up her mind. You know what this reminds me of, especially with
the knowledge they are being filmed themselves? There was and probably is a video lurking
in the webs called “Two Girls, One Cup.” I’ve never watched it and never will; I’ve read a
synopsis. What I have seen once or twice are videos of someone set up to watch it
unprepared so their reactions could be filmed. I don’t know why causing someone to vomit
on camera is funny. And it’s not as bad as what these people are seeing.

Six member kingdoms in the fringe worlds?
I wonder if that includes the Catians and the Dogishuans?
That leads to the question of how any fringe worlds are there; and how many core worlds.
And how many of these actually have a seat on council?
