ok, so maybe the AIs have less hardwired combat capability than I
expected. They are still toddlers in many ways. But Julie is more of
an asset than I expected, or thinks she is. Let’s hope they enter
and don’t just lob grenades through the doors.
I would have expected the Core Worlds to value the peace and
stability afforded by the Treaty more than that, given what Kataar
told us way back when, but maybe Captain Chardis and her superiors
are already suspecting bias in that narrative as much as I do.
Speaking of which, if war does erupt, the Dragons are a formidable
wild card. Unless they try to act like Vorlons.
Yes, the AIs have military capabilities, but they don’t have the training.
While they could learn rapidly to use a firearm as in show-me-once,
Matthew has no knowledge of their judgement, as he does with every
other shooter. (Julie only peripherally). They don’t need help, anyway.
This is what you missed in your second paragraph TGW-889, I was
certain you’d spot the possibility.
When I was writing it I thought I was probably overstating the fact by listing the AIs,
but it made the line funnier. And I did NOT think about the fact that Matthew has good
prior knowledge of the capabilities AND judgement of all the others. That is a very good
point. I wish he had been delivered more detail about what “armed” meant as far as
the assailants. Semi-auto pistols is one thing, fully-auto rifles with grenade launchers
or worse is quite another.
Ok, PC, you gots some ‘splainin’ to do.
What is a .335 caliber in an AR (15? 10?) platform.
Must be something new The Empire (or the civilians – without the
BATFEces, GCA, or NFA, et al) developed after The Collapse.
(and what are the stats/specs, and where can I try one out?)
the .335 win mag,. never took off in the US. it is really popular in
Africa as a medium game round. think of it as a .338 lapua in a
AR-10 frame.
BUT,, this is “Petercat’s” show ,, so it might be some thing new,,.
also why it is not popular , it is NOT a sniper round,. it drops
fast after 500 yards. but like the .45 (1911) out to 500 yards,
what ever it hits ‘drops’.. right there..
All right, settle down, class is in session.
Tommy, stop teasing Laurie and take your seat.
Today we will discuss the .335 GoblinStomper round. It was first designed for use
with a suppressed M-16 carbine platform, to send a heavy projectile through a
fast-twist barrel at subsonic speeds. The first customers, law enforcement and security,
demanded three things: high accuracy, low ricochet, and reliable expansion. Soon
after it’s acceptance, it was adopted by club and restaurant owners, as it could deliver
good energy to the target with low noise and a low risk of collateral damage, as designed.
It’s limited range due to the heavy, slow bullet is not a problem in an indoor environment.
Other loads, such as a deep penetrator for use against extremely obese meatsacks are
available, but are not as common.
ah,.! also fictitious,,. unlike the .300 Blackout / Whisper multipurpose
round, and it’s inherit case splitting flaws when reloading (especially
when using 5.56 brass).. the .335 GoblinStomper was / is designed
to be a QCB round,. and hence the militaries not adopting due to
one use application.!
it is popular for reloading due to not having to reneck the case,
just resize,. the other benefit is the hotter, faster, lighter powder
charge don’t blow / split with any cases.!
because it was designed for the “M-4” platform, when used in longer
barrels it has less muzzle flash and noise , more like a .22..
the other discovered benny was that rebarreling old worn, shot out
barrels to .335 was cheaper than new barrels and gave the barrel a
“new shot” at life. 🙂
Sounds good.
Thought it sounded similar to the 300 Blackout.
For a REAL round that’s almost unobtanium, that fits close to your
mythical .335, research the 9x39mm (or 9.3x39mm) round.
Based off the 7.62×39 SKS/AK47 intermediate round, it’s designed to
be hard hitting, close range, subsonic, shoot-through-a-suppressor,
assassin cartridge.
The AI’s might even be part of the Core World’s counter attack.
Never underestimate your enemy.
Retrieving their claimed AI’s that they may intend to replace key
people on as yet unknown extent, and taking out some of the key
Empire people may have a major assault occurring.
They could just be from Earth. But disrupting this new upstart
Empire that tries to treat people fairly is not playing by the
old rules. Either way, this is part of a war. Even when going to
dinner, body armor of some level is not a foolish choice.
That is a great idea, and would really add possibilities to the story. Thank you.
Sadly, the way I have already written it, the Core is unaware of the Empire
and the threat it represents, and the Empire is trying to keep it that way for
as long as possible. Hence, the sacrifice of the captured ships into the sun
and the transport of the prisoners to Dogishua. More later in the story. Please
keep the good ideas coming, I may not use them, but they might jump start
my own imagination in unexpected ways.
The Dragons, however, love to meddle in the affairs of others. Hmmm…
While THIS threat is almost certainly Terran, such a move by the
Core Worlds later is a possibility. The Man-Kzin Wars lasted for
generations, as did the wars with the Berserkers. However, after
what is known (by us and the Empire) to be coming, the Core Worlds
will have to know some of what they now do not know that they do not
know. The first, best move would be to gather intelligence, which
means either diplomacy or infiltration. Infiltration might involve
surgically altering their own agents, brainwashing or otherwise
altering captured Terrans, or working with humans NOT loyal to the
Empire, if they can find them. The only (as far as the Empire knows)
known wormhole to Terra marked “Here there be Dragons” on all the
maps may keep them away for now, but they know where Lamia is, and
the other human worlds. And some of the Terrans now venturing into
other systems may be corruptible.
Wasn’t she ‘adopted’ by some military unit due to her knowledge of
greenhouse gardening?
From what I saw in the story, after she was picked up with bleeding
feet in the middle of nowhere and revealing that she not only had a
greenhouse – she also knew how to get things to grow in it.
We have ample evidence, including Aaron’s buddy Robert, that they
could BOTH be #1 with Aaron, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the way
the story is going. (I know Amilu said Madea would be senior, but
that seems to make little difference to either of them. Robert’s
wishes, of course, are secondary.)

Sounds like a “fun” round in a short barrel AR platform
(short barrel = ease of maneuvering in CQB)
Totally fictitious? Or based on a real round?
Ehh, fictitious. Generally a .300 Blackout with a heavier bullet
and less penetration.

(don’t know if the link will work. did a copy/paste, didn’t copy
exactly the same as source)
the 9 x .39 is already used in the green suppressed AK’s…

Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, for thou are crunchy, and
tasty with catsup.
Eh, I don’t know… I prefer a good hot sauce…

I like Julie but I’d still like to know whatever happened to Emma.
In spite of her parents and lack of training, the girl had mettle.
Wasn’t she ‘adopted’ by some military unit due to her knowledge of
greenhouse gardening?
From what I saw in the story, after she was picked up with bleeding
feet in the middle of nowhere and revealing that she not only had a

Yes and she was also his girlfriend then. Is Julie #2 or the
current #1? Who doesn’t like a girl who likes guns?

You’ve given me a great idea for a future story. Thank you.
,,heh,, some unit,, that was Aarons dads unit..
