As to your first question, I suspect that the whole purpose of this tale – the “moral”, if you will – was to show us how the former “naive little sex toy for an abusive bull dyke” could turn her life around and achieve greatness because of the encouragement and support of a single caring individual. Additionally, it is an indictment against those who would divide us by means of the heinous device of identity politics. Was it not Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, who dreamt of a time when people would “not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character”? I find it infinitely sad that the would be inheritors of Dr King’s mantle should so depart from his dreams. My way of thinking about race is this:
Only a blind man can fail to.see.the color of another’s skin; but only a fool (in the Biblical sense – i.e. a moral degenerate) draws a conclusion from that single observation.
As to your 2nd question, for most people tazing or stun gunning does not induce ventricular fibrillation. What it does is cause a full contraction.of all the voluntary muscles of the body accompanied by – for most but not all – a momentary loss of consciousness. Almost all people who are tazed or hit with a stun gun recover spontaneously thus such devices are considered to be sub-lethal or ” less than” lethal. However, for someone such as myself who live our lives with and by means of a pacemaker or implanted cardiac defibrillator (such as former VPOTUS Dick Cheny) such an assault would almost certainly be lethal. The huge magnetic field generated by such a device would induce very high voltages in the wires leading directly into our hearts and instantly disable the devices which – in my case – keep our hearts beating. By the time anyone figured out we weren’t going to wake up we would almost certainly be beyond resuscitation. For similar reasons, we cannot walk through the metal detectors so common at the entrances to government buildings post 9/11. I have a little red card which allows me to skip walking through metal detectors and instead be wanded by hand – from the rib cage down. Prior to getting the pacer in 08 I still sometimes set off metal detectors. If the metal detector was sufficiently sensitive then either the huge surgical staple in my right ankle or the titanium-steel bracket in my neck would set it off and I would have to be wanded by hand anyway. One time when I had to visit the Court House for Jury Duty the asshole at the entry point ignored my little red card and insisted I step through the metal detector anyway. Istarted to comply but advised him that if I went out, whenI woke up I would sue the county and him individually. Fortunately for him the Deputy Sheriff working that entrance intervened and order him (he was a civilian security officer) to knock it off and just wand me. I like to think that, if the Deputy had not intervened, I would otherwise be a moderately wealthy man today. {sigh}
just saying.. not a taser or stun rod… it is a cattle prod.. designed to cause Pain an Damage.!!!!
and yes a cattle prod can kill you.! .. can be used as a torture device..
Any one of them CAN kill me. Didn’t realize what he was carrying was a cattle prod and so stand corrected, Mr Stanley. Looked more like a stun rod to me But then as we learned in the story about Ginnie, Cats, similar to bovines, being rather more robustly constructed than homo saps would logically require a bit more of a zap. I’d still not expect a zap where the electrodes are so close together to induce V-fib. I was taught taught to always keep one hand behind me so.as.to minimize the chance of my heart being in the current path. But I am not a medico; don’t even play one on TV so I claim no special expertise. I have no problem admitting ignorance. Did get bit a couple of times in a decade working on electronics. Once accidentally touched an O scope probe on a 750 volt DC line with a 300 volt AC rider. Arm and back muscles contracted and I wound up throwing the probe – plus cable – 30 across the maintenance bay. Experienced the expected depression 72 hours later due to the shock. Another time I accidentally touched a big capacitor in a powered transmitter with 3 KV DC on it. Only one hand touching anything but it blew a chunk the size of a mechanical pencil’s eraser out of the tip of my thumb. No blood but I still have a little crater to remind me of it. Plus the inevitable depression later. Seems getting a good jolt messes with your brain chemistry. Takes a couple of days to express. The guys in the ER at the base hospital warned me to be expecting the letdown. Some fun; hey kids!?
First story: Ok, skipping ahead is one thing, but making her a grandmother?
Second story: I know WHY Ryza grabbed the tazer bat, but it doesn’t look like it ended well for her… Hopefully, a bit of CPR will bring her back…
