I’m surprised that Matthew or an agent never discovered the tunnel before now.
Someone’s been slacking?
Orrrrr……
Possibly Matthew knew about the tunnel all along, but kept that knowledge hidden,
just to see who would walk into the “soft trap”.
HE fired HER?!? OK, the plot thickens and my curiosity is peaked.
Considering how smart-mouthed she is, I can guess.
Wait, wait, wait… So they STOPPED weapons research because of
the H-bombs? And they have been attacking other worlds and taking
over? (Here’s your sign) I get the idea, but you never stop research,
just into planet-crackers. Teresa’s Navy/Army/Marines have time
and time again that it SAVES lives. Being powerful and good at it
makes it less likely that the dumb try.
Good point. How do you keep “the other people” from using
H-bombs? By developing the Q-bomb. How do you keep them
from using the Q-bomb? By developing the Ilidium Q-36
explosive space modulator. (Which I take it the races in this
Galactic Council had just done.) How many steps from there
to the Ultimate Nullifier? Maybe research into weapons that
are more flexible and versatile, and hence useful, is a
better deterrent.
That and the fact that the Navy can and has taken over ships and
assets without any more killing than absolutely necessary, very
hard to do if your force is static and behind. That’s the definition
of advanced warfare, stop the attackers but give them a chance
to see the light rather than the flames. There’s always “do or die”
types, people that want bragging rights and kill-counts, but smart
leaders know when it’s a waste of life and resources to keep fighting.
When it comesto weapons research, some people concentrate on offense,
But no where near enough on defense. The best thing in this case is, when
you develope new weapons, assume your enemy will have those same
weapons, if not now, in the near future, and then develope defenses against
your own weapons.
Oy.
The Galactic Council must have banned the Lir from the galaxy in that reality.
Because you really DON’T want to know what their weapons can do.
Ever play ‘Planet Pool’?
I can’t help but wonder if the GC isn’t like Motha or that they just
don’t care what one of their members are doing. The Demons might
have a reason (dumb as it may be) for taking over planets and
collecting slaves, a lack of resources or man-power, if the GC cared
they could do something about it. Offer help rather than indifference.
Anything…
The planet-killer ban might make the members “safer,” but not safe.
Well, remember the hints we had early on that the known races,
by their pact, were hiding behind the legal fiction that since the
Catians were produced by humans using human DNA as a base,
they were “technically human”, so enslaving and slaughtering
them for body parts was an internal matter. It would appear
this “Galactic Council” has no such qualms. I get the impression
the Core (and Periphery) may not even be aware of them.
That makes sense, the GC took a look and thought “Not a safe
bet” and left them alone. I have a gut thinking that the Beetle
looking guys were from the GC however, and that brings up
scary issues.
That would make sense. I was wondering if they and the
tentacle thing still fit into the original species count. And
I expect the Cat to Say Nothing until the time is right.
Hmmm… Now that the Navy has the FTL comm, maybe give the GC a
call for talks? Start diplomacy before they try anything stupid? Or at
least try to get a feel for the GC leaders. I wouldn’t wait to see what
they try next.
That and the fact she went and worked with a sworn enemy of Matthew…
Who can say what all she told him. And I believe the “Mystery Man” is
about to show his face.
My first thought was “I should have just killed you”, but that
doesn’t sound like Matthew. (If what he fired her for warranted
that, he would have. This isn’t a regret he’s likely to have, and
that’s -besides- the fact that he’s a higher moral creature than
this childhood friend who has made himself an enemy.)
Matthew won’t do that unless letting them live is a much
higher threat than not. I’m guessing it was a combo of
insubordination and snark that got her pink-slipped. In any
type of covert agency you have to follow the chain of
command or risk screwing up the big picture.
I just spent 10 minutes talking to an AI in a game demo…
Ummm…
Was I creeped out?
YES!!!
It’s called “Whispers from the Star,” Young girl, stuck in an escape pod,
You talk her through getting out and finding the other’s from her ship.
I actually talked her out of blaming herself for the crash,
then we talked about Jasmine… Jeesh…
Edited:
Galactic Council?
It’s a good thing that the Earth stands alone.
(maybe the GC is afraid that Earth will take over)
Afraid we’ll take over?
Why do you think that there’s Humans out there in the first place?

And yes, the Lir would, to some extent, go by the Council’s decision.
There’s other ways to help (Good) civilizations in need.

“But firing you was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.”
Along the lines of,
“keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.”
