Ah yes, the biggest issue with allies, the “please sir,
may I have some more” attitude of many of them.
At least in PC’s universe, they have to pay for it,
rather than “loan” a fighter squadron to them.
They still need trainers, but that’s part of the bill.

True, but wasn’t the troops sent to Vietnam were just “teachers”
until the NV started to attack them? Then our pres decided to
“escalate?” Aid gone wrong…
That was the cover story that they were just “advisers” but everybody knew
that was just a dodge. It’s like officially there were no Russians flying the
MiG-15s our guys faced in Korea.
I hate that sometimes, our allies wait until they get the loaners,
the training, and then turn around and sell the data to our enemies.
Or use them against our troops. Cuba was just one time that happened,
there’s been more.
Well, it helps that all Dragonflies from the Mark I have a primitive
AI to prevent them from being used against the good guys.
The non-fatal response is to lock the pilot out of the controls and
fly home to the nearest Imperial base where things can be sorted out.
Tampering with the circuitry will get the same response, worst case
will be runaway grav drives and a hemispherical hole in the ground.
Ah, good. I STILL hear about the Bay of Pigs from a certain retired military man
to this day… I don’t blame him, that was the worst betrayal in my memory. That
we know of, anyway, who knows how many were covered up since.
Since Mistrial is traveling in a Dragonfly, and they aren’t two-seaters,
she obviously learned to fly one in her abundant spare time. It’s good
for commanding officers to be able to do more than just shuffle paper.
Of course, she never struck me as a stereotypical officer.
Not to mention how much she enjoyed riding in

first built! I’d love to fly a Df myself, that is, if I
don’t go into a white-knuckled panic attack
during landing heh. 😛
Gads my son! I had ordered a new TV to work as a
monitor and my son (without telling me) ordered a
true computer monitor! I’m not complaining, but
now I have a 32″ HD TV AND a gaming monitor!
The good news is the monitor is also high def and
runs at 120mhz. I CAN SEE! I came home from a
doctor appt. to see BOTH boxes on the porch,
I’m still working out the differences, but thanks
to it, I’ve been running the zoom on many things
to 150%. Well, TGW is at only 120%, but I can
read the text without leaning in!
Multi-monitor grows on you. When I started out in public accounting
nigh on thirty years ago I had just one monitor. Big sucker, the old
CRT model. Eventually I had two of them at that firm, raised up and
suspended above the desk, since they took up so much physical space.
Those things weighed about seventy five pounds each. I don’t recall
now if we ever moved to flat panel monitors there. At this firm, I
started with two, then after about five years, went to three. A few
years later and the tax partner went to four, and the rest of the senior
staff followed suit a year or so later. I have four 19″ square(ish) monitors
now that take up literally five feet of desk space. But I often have 20-25
separate windows/programs open at any given time. I have sixteen as
I write this. I think we’re at our practical limit though. I know I think I am.
I have two on my internet computer. One is for the web, 24″ in letter format
and one 10″ that I play movies on that I want to record to a hard drive. That
way I can full-screen and screen capture the movie without capturing the
internet as well.
It’s a maybe, my video has both an RGB and a HDMI outputs,
and the software does reference a multi-monitor setup, but
I just don’t have the space on my desk. Or the space in my
bedroom for a larger one. I’m hoping that once we can (and
my father passes away) get a new place of our own that I can
a room just for my computers and printers. With a cot or a
recliner for when I’m running a large print I have to watch.
My son has been very determined to find us a place, but we
are going to have a time of it unless the 20% down payment
rule is changed. We had ran across a nice ranch house, 4 bed,
2 bath with a attached 3 car garage for 120k, but to close
we needed 20k just to close! The first house we got 25 years
ago I only needed 2k for that. WTF!
I bought my laptop at the start of covid, when we first had to work
from home. It’s not a top end machine, but I made sure it had at
least 16 gig of ram and one HDMI and two normal USB ports.
Both USB ports have a 4-way splitter, one of which has a third 4-way
splitter plugged in to it. I’m not using all 11 USB ports, but I wanted
to spread the load out. Keyboard, mouse and two monitors always
connected, with the ability to add in a printer or an external DVD
player or a flash drive or two. I found a couple of PCI to USB video
adapters and a PCI to HDMI adapter on Amazon, so while the screens
aren’t all identical like they are here at the office, I can link to my work
computer from home and have basically the same setup.
What I’m getting at is that with used monitors at around $35-$75, and
a brand new laptop at $5-600 (not sure what they’re going for nowadays),
it wasn’t very much to be able to work from home and not be driving home
after midnight and exhausted during tax season. That made my wife much
happier. And you know what they say about keeping the wife happy.
I bought my little Acer laptop on ebay for $30.00, with tax and shipping.
It’s a 9″ monitor, windows XP, 1.5GB RAM, and a 160GB HDD.
It’s a tiny little thing that looks new –
The hard drive had less than a thousand hours on it.
I got it to play old legacy games on.
There are some good deals on ebay if you’re careful.
About a year ago I bought the wife a brand new laptop that was
designed for the internet, 1.6 ghz cpu, about 2 gig hdd, and a
middle-of-the-road gpu. She mainly uses it for her Face book
games and talking to family and friends on facechat. I think it was
$120 from Amazon, an Acer. From my looking, it has 4, 500 mb
SD cards raided together, so that part is almost as fast as my SSD drive.
I’ve grown fond of ACER. Not only are they well built,
but their desktops are attractive. I bought my first one,
a SFF, when I realized that they didn’t use proprietary
parts like Dell and HP.
I put a mini ITX Asrock board in it, it’s now my NAS.
Compaq was doing that, they found out it was bad for business.
Those Deskpro’s were very tricky since they stopped making parts
for them. The components were not replaceable with standard ones.
Even the ram chips were one-offs. My sister had a corp-copy of
Win 98 that had 90% of the common drivers, so it saved me
THAT headache. Stock was Compaq’s own version of Win95.
Heh, I used to go to E-bay all the time, bidding on stuff.
that’s where I got those 5 deskpro’s I made into 2 working
computers. It’s been getting to be like Amazon more and
more these days, just for used stuff. I tried to buy a Longer
3D printer through them, and the guy yanked the offer after
I sent the payment, so I hesitate to try again. I did get the
money back, thanks to PayPal.

I’m starting to think the whole “no child left behind” rule

never truly finished school!
The guy’s buddies are saying he is a big Trump *supporter*. (Also
supposedly a federal government denier, not sure how those two
match up.) I almost think he was there hoping to “protect” Trump if
an attempt was made and the Secret Service didn’t serve. Not bright.
Attempting it would likely get him killed and racked up as a co-assassin.
I’m just glad the 3rd time wasn’t a charm! If one of the
two major candidates were to somehow be eliminated this
close to the election (I won’t say “election day” since it’s
more like election month) we would be in totally uncharted
territory! There wouldn’t be time to get another candidate on
the ballots in all 50 states. The remaining candidate would
effectively be run-ning unopposed! At the risk of sounding
like a conspiracy nut, do you reck- on that’s what one side WANTS? Perilous times, folks. Perilous times!
Here’s the thing Bill, if Harris can run in place of Biden,
why couldn’t Trumps VP pick? They just can’t think things through!
I’d hate to see their feet, as many times they shot them…
I think both parties are past the time limit where
they could add a different candidate to the ballot.
I’m not sure, but Trump could be elected after his
death, and then Vance would become President.
They’re both going to be in danger for the rest of
their lives, and the SS won’t be much help.
An assassin only has to succeed once, the SS has to
