And the roof lights up. Rescue???
I wonder if Ser Slinom really is hammer headed?

Ah, excuse me. Possible slight documentation error. The hammerhead arguing with Queen Ann’gijn
is addressed as “Ser Slinom” but in the characters list his name is given as “Slimon”. Oops?

      Corrected, thanks.
Bit of trivia: I was going to name him Slimon, but
decided that would be too obvious.

What did I say seven years ago?
Wouldn’t be the same without that whole “Dr Evil” accent.

As far as I get from watching part of the videos subtitles, it’s about the vulnerability
of anybodies infrastructure to cyber attacks?

That’s hardly new news anymore, is it?

I mean, we do know what happened to Iran’s Uranium centrifuges a few years
      back, right?

And we do know that there’s been plenty reports of security issues in power plants
      factories and stuff, right?

After the whole ransomware attack of a few years ago I knew what
you’re depicting here was going to happen. It’s only a matter of time.

A line of code embedded in say a picture, with a simple command to
download the actual virus that in turn embeds the d/l code into another
file, can quickly infect everything in a matter of months. Sadly the PTB
know this and are doing little passed upgrading the virus protection,
which is always behind the writers of viruses.

I think it’ll take a AI to do this though, many major computer systems
use more advanced OS than windows.

This is too good. I can nearly see what they will try next.
Ser Slinom will argue that the Catia’s Pride can’t be a diplomatic vessel
because they don’t have an ambassador. A weak argument, but I’m sure
they will try it, because as far as they know the ambassador that came
with the Pride is still back on Xanadu.

What they don’ know is that Taritha(?) is a fully accredited ambassador.
They can’t know she did not arrive on the Pride, so the custom’s ships,
and any other ships the Catia’s Pride destroyed not only broke the rules,
but also tried to assassinate an ambassador.

So, Ser Slinom, shall we let this go? Or should the message go back to
Xanadu that not only are ambassadors not safe, but that inconvenient
ambassadors are going to be assassinated? By official customs ships?
Are you working with or for the assassin’s?

    The trap is set.

      January 14, 2023, 05:53 | # | Reply

Well, to be fair, the Ambassador was aboard during all combat
except for the last one with System Security.
(Wait until the Xanadu SS gets the bill for repairs to the Pride…)

If Xanadu Systems Security is still a factor by then. Things are
moving so very fast right now.
It’s only a question of time until the core worlds are being
called out on their BS, or the core worlds simply stop even
pretending that they follow the rules.
And as I mentioned, we’ve seen how fast and loose they
played things before, so they may ask ‘why even bother
        anymore?’

        • Scarsdale
          January 16, 2023, 16:50 | # | Reply

I’m sure at some point the core is going to tell Xanadu SS
to just attack anything with a Catia registration and the
          fighting war will start.
That will trigger Earth and the Fringe worlds to retaliate
and it will get messy. But in the end The Empire will win
out, it’ll be dicey but do-able.
The core suspects they no longer control the fringe and the
southern worlds but this will be the last straw!

Ok, so the police captain is a fat bigot, just not a dumb fat bigot!
I doubt the gang would be so foolish as to forget the fire escape.
I doubt he knows about the fireflies and the locust that’s bearing
down on the buildings while he jiggle-runs towards that building!

Slinom is a bigger idiot than I expected if he thinks he can fly to a
planet, and to start making demands on the Queen of that planet!
He/she/it is about to get a huge lesson in diplomacy or imprisonment
in short order. And Taritha is sitting there quietly with a grin the
whole time… She’s reminding me of Teresa more and more!

From what I get the shitbats/hammerheads and the like are used
to running the show without much in terms of an opposition.

And the Catia’s Pride has been called a pirate before – maybe there’s
even an “Interstellar search warrant” for her; or whatever they’re
      called.

They do have a inter-species law (and court) system in place, which
has been shown to be rigged in favor of the core systems so far.

So he has had good reasons to believe that he’d just stroll in there
and get the Pride gift wrapped and handed over to him.

If he’s the Core’s equivalent of a police officer, he’d probably not to
happy about his suspects hiding behind Diplomatic immunity and similar
      “excuses”.

About the first four panels: they did think of the fire exit(s) too when
preparing the hotel, didn’t they? It should be way too obvious a weakness
for military professionals to miss dealing with.

Regarding leaving the fire escapes available, gotta leave the dragonflies something to shoot at, no?

And having security on the outside of the building makes them more vulnerable than on the inside.

Is she living there or going there from home?

      • Scarsdale
        January 15, 2023, 09:30 | # | Reply

She’s living there sadly, I had to do the same last year after my cancer surgery.
It’s SOP after hip surgery I guess, she has to get used to the feeling and the
pain from the bone healing around the implant plus learning how to build up
the muscles to help keep the new joint in place. Her bones are very brittle and
this isn’t the first time she’s broken one from a simple fall.
Long story short, at the age of 29 she had to have a full hysterectomy and
has had problems ever since. She’s 58 now.

If her bones are brittle because of her hysterectomy – has anybody suggested

            January 15, 2023, 19:18 | # | Reply

My mother, my sister and her were all on hormone therapy
because they all had hysterectomies, my mother had a very
aggressive form of breast cancer caused by hers so all 3
decided to stop cold turkey. She was brought to remission
but she had to take a beta-blocker for the rest of her life.
My wife had gotten the worst of the side effects though,
she’s had oestreoperosus since 1994. Her bones are of a
95 year old. She takes a massive amount of calcium supps
and still has to get an infusion every 3 months of some type
            of medication.

My wife is able to stand but moving the hip is very painful
and her leg tends to swell up if she stands too long. I’m
looking into things like hand rails etc… Anything to reduce
the risk of her falling when she gets home.

      • Petercat
        January 16, 2023, 17:40 | # | Reply

Don’t forget the bathroom! Rails to help her get off the toilet,
and out of the tub, stabilizer in the shower for when she is
able to stand long enough to take one…
Strategically located throughout the house in places where
she might become unstable and fall… like hallways, kitchen,
etc. Even if you do it yourself, it’s going to be expensive.

We’re not getting into politics. While it’s not a forbidden subject, it is discouraged.

Anything discussed within the comic itself is fair game, of course.

Well, I lived in Germany for nine years, but would
you listen to my opinion of German politics? We
each have our own opinions of what is wrong with
politics in other nations, and we each are partly
            right.
Just as the blind men were partly right about the
            shape of the elephant.

LIsten yes. Agree – probably not.

I was thinking about more about the system anyways, not
the actual decisions or even the goals behind these.

                “But you wouldn’t listen anyway.”
But YOU would listen to ME.
                That’s a bit… insulting?
No matter. Most people listen to those who disagree not
to understand, but to form their own counterpoints.
It’s basic human nature. It’s easier to defend a position
than it is to accept a new one.
Which is usually the case for discussions of politics, climate, and
religion. Which is why such discussions are discouraged here.
But personal disagreements which do not include insult, threat, or
aggression are welcome. We’re all adults, we should be able to
                handle dissenting opinions.

PC, as an American, I am of the opinion that anyone running for higher political office,
should, in addition to the current qualifications, take and pass an IQ test of at LEAST
an average intelligence, and be a highschool graduate in order to run for public office.

We currently have WAY too many politicians in office, whose intelligence and education
seems to be not only seriously lacking, but lead me to suspect that, not only did they
NOT graduate from grade school, they were likely dropped on their heads, multiple times,
                      as children.

Sorry about the political commentary, but I suspect the majority of people who post here
                      are of a similar opinion.

I would prefer a test on the Constitution – essay! – rather than
a high school diploma. Nowadays, by the time someone gets their
                      diploma, they’ve been indoctrinated.
Let them prove that they actually understand the Constitution and
the thoughts and writings of the Founding Fathers.
