The coin just dropped in the slot, and Julie is just beginning
to realize that she is treading into The Great Game (reference
to the movie “Kim”, 1950, with Dean Stockwell).
I’m still amazed at he changes in Taritha,
from a Romani multi colored wild child,
to a lady, nay, Lady to the Empress.
That black and white gown is stunning.
I’ve noticed when she’s out and doing the job, she tries to stick
to her own coloration’s, it does give her a more regal look. I’m
sure when she’s off duty and relaxing with shipmates or friends
she’s more likely to wear what ever she likes. I’m sure as time
passes there will be more Envoy’s out there, it’s a very special
position to have.
Wait, what! You didn’t know her last name was Walker?!? And you want
to be an investigator? (face-palm) Jeez, Julia, it’s always a good idea
to KNOW someone you want to poke around on, That’s like telling your
boss his secretary is hot only to see her walk up and kiss your boss
on the cheek and say “Hi, Daddy” NOT good!
Here’s hoping! I’ll never understand why some companies cheat their
suppliers who are the one’s that KEEP them in business, but hey it’s
what they want, so enjoy life after your resources dry up. Once this
gets out, many if not all the resource miners in the core will flock
to the Empire. Faster, better defended ships, fair trade scales,
and bosses that LIKE you!
Seems like my prediction of the core worlds becoming slums is
getting closer all the time, I just hope the peons have the
sense to jump ship and head to the Fringe!

In the RL/Empire, the upper class make up the top 4-5%, the middle class
is like 60% and the low class is the rest, none of those numbers are stable.
My info is decades out of date, and I don’t have the stomach to look up the
current…
I suspect in the core it’s more like 5%, 20%, 75%. With little hope of getting
up to the middle.
Julie was concentrating on one small sliver of Mr Walker’s past life,
not the broad, overall current day-to-day.
Aaaaand being a rank beginner who doesn’t know what she
doesn’t know, she could be forgiven.
But…..she will be taught, and taught well, I’m sure.
VERY bad juju… It’s kinda like she’s trying to go after the local
crime boss and NOT knowing who is in the same circle. Not
that Johnathan will do much to her, just explain the facts of
life and maybe contact Sharon about a new recruit?
Definitely Matthew’s style, and his original Stilyagi are all
grown up now. Of course, pre-Empire Matthew would have
offered her a sweetheart deal, not drafted her.
I hope Power hasn’t changed him much.
I doubt it, in his line of work, if you don’t have a
stable mind, you don’t last long. Plus it’s pretty
humbling to find out your boss is your daughter.
That still calls him “Daddy”…
A question for the group –
Is this Julie here the same Julie that was shown with
Aaron in earlier parts of the story – or a new Julie?
Just checking my mind/story connections.
Thnx
Uh Oh, I think Julie just entered the ‘Twilight Zone’.
I hope Cat’n Flink keeps the deal.
I think the Dragon Fly would tell
Lady Taritha if he was not truthful.

So few remember that movie or that way to speak about espionage.

I wonder if PC will take a few episodes to show us
some day-to-day life on a Core world (warts and all)?
Compare and contrast.
A look at the elite and the workers would tell much,
I doubt there’s much of a middle class.
there is always 3 classes (in humans),. elites,.
middle: is the back bone. they are teachers,
trainers, supervisors, ECT.
and the worker / drones

Depending on the society, that can be a VERY weak backbone…

The Stilyagi were very effective, I doubt he let it
go, just added more members over time, or let
them do it themselves (with his approval of course).
Hey, if I refuse to grow up, you can bet my characters don’t grow up, either!
🙂
Growing older is mandatory.
Growing up is optional.
Julie has just learned that Mr. Walker
KNOWS EVERYTHING that is going on around him.

two Different Julies.
Thanks – I was thinking so – but – at my age, it pays to check . . . 😀
