Oh, hello Karma! Heh, thanks they both deserve that kindness.

Really? I guess we’re the only race to discover the benefits of
a shotgun? Well to be fair maybe not on this scale. I remember
the description of it, “The Devils Shotgun”, which give me the
image of the giant shape of the Devil appearing in space, thinks
for a moment, and points his scepter! They hear, “BOOM bitch!”
    heheheh…

Well, some Pterans should at least conceptually know about shotguns,
as Chirk used one in Debbie’s video, and that was most likely
included in the videos shared with the Queen. But yeah, one that
leaves not trail, no clue as to how it got there before it goes off?
That’s gonna be a bit scary.

Looks like Tracy’s gonna tear the boss a new one. Gently, of course.
He does sign her paycheck after all. But he has it coming and he
      knows it.

Tracy has a valid point, if Alex had bailed Riley out in the past without
asking for payment, he does owe Alex. I tried to do the same in my
neighborhood, but I was no Bruce Lee and there was too many street
gangs out there for me alone to deal with.

The problem is probably be that the Core Worlds are used to a certain
style of fighting, at certain ranges and with certain payloads. With
them being the top dogs and not going up against each other they
      never had to be innovative.
So even if they had shotguns, no one had thought to apply that to
ship-to-ship combat, so seeing it for the first time will surprise them.

It’s a little like the Shadow Death Cloud in Babylon 5. The Vorlon
Planet Killer was essentially a smaller, more mobile Death Star.
Straight forward. With the Shadows it looked like a cloud that
enveloped a planet, went on and then it looked like the planet
was turning inside out. Very scary to look at. After a ship got
close enough to scan what was happening and it was revealed
that they Cloud fired thousands of missiles that penetrated the
crust of the planet and detonated them it was a little less scary.
It was still a planet killer, but at least they knew what was going
      on.

Both the humans and the core rely on their beam weapons in close
combat and explosives (including nukes) for longer range. The “kitty
litter” idea may never occurred to anyone else before is all. To be
honest, it wouldn’t have to me either! Those 25mm fragments would
be hard to detect, HD deep space radar wasn’t needed before now
and a best it would look like minor static on a screen. Add in the
“glitter shot”, the radar reflective version of kitty litter, and they are
        toast, or better yet, fragmented!

edit: changed 25cm (10in) to 25mm (1in): see this is why i hate
“Metric”.! no basis on size,, since i have no idea what ’25cm’
means in size i looked up the conversion, which = 10in (9.8in)
,, way to big for shot.. so i looked up the “kitty litter” page,
which sez 25mm (1in) (0.9in), makes more sense for shot..
and yes,, i will go to my grave before i will “learn”
          the metric system.!!

I couldn’t remember how it was described, and I didn’t want to go on another
long re-read to be sure. Anyway I’ve had to start learning it because of my
3D printers use it for EVERY DAMN THING!
            pant…pant…pant…
Sorry I get tired of using conversion software ALL the time. CAD programs are
even worse, using the sketch part is the worst about it. One wrong entry and
it can look like I invoked cThullu or something lol. Not to mention the forehead
            shaped dent on my desk….

At least metric system is consistent.
Any real calculation in your system must be a nightmare.

Why not just use Roman numerals and be done with it?

Actually, it isn’t that bad. I learned the metric system in High School 1st year biology.
It was easy to think in different units as needed. The calculations aren’t bad unless
you have to go from, say, volume to capacity. Capacity to weight is fairly simple since
a fluid ounce weighs right at 1 ounce (actually a tad bit more but close enough) so
a pint weighs a pound. I like to think of it as being bilingual.

How many cubic feet are in a galleon?

It really depends. Are we talking Spanish galleons, or Portuguese? Or
some other country’s. They varied so much over the centuries.

What’s that? Gallon?? Oh. That would be 0.1336806 cu/ft per gallon.

It’s not hard, just frustrating is all, I was mostly trying to be
funny. It’s been decades since I had to use it and my memory
stinks these days. Fusion 360 is much easier to use but I
              can’t afford the $400 USD a month.

I live as a programmer but was trained as a physicist. I’m comfortable in either
system and see the benefits moving to the system the rest of the civilized world
uses. I tried convincing my dad once, had him going until I mentioned the fact
that the power unit was one he already knew, watts. Engine power would be
measured in kilowatts and not in horsepower, and as I was trying to explain
what THAT would make easier, he stopped me, said that watts were a unit of
electricity, not power, and everything I was saying became nonsense. As far
as he was concerned, the only way a combustion engine could produce
kilowatts was if it were powering a generator. He could see that distance
was distance and volume was volume, but not that power was power.

Yeah I ran into that problem as well, I had to cover the electritician
              when he rage-quit. 3-phase power wasn’t hard, as long as I didn’t
have to mess with the motor controllers. It was several weeks before
they replaced him. I got the idea of that, but had a very hard time
understanding it. Many electric motors were in HP not Kw.

Thankfully I knew Ohm’s law by heart and kept a
laminated conversion table in my toolbox. Plus I
knew ratio math very well, I was one of a few that
knew how to use it for new equipment installation.

And there is only one kind of pound. At least that’s what the guy thought
that refueled that one passenger plane. Which led to the plane being
a little low on fuel during it’s transatlantic flight.

That’s somewhat the point I’m trying to hint at.

One unit for power, no matter how you generate it.
One unit for mass, one for length, one for time and so one.
And usually they just … fit together.

Calculations involving J, kg and m³ are so much easier then
trying the same using cal, pound and galleon.

There IS a reason the rest of the civilized world uses it. Also most of the uncivilized.

Redhead? Oh. Maybe, kinda, sorta can see it in panel 4. Barely.

When I was little, my grandmother used to call me a redhead. I’d get mad
and say “I-AM-NOT-A-REDHEAD!!!” Fast forward to Freshman Biology lab in
college. Studying genetics. The prof flashes the Ishihara color blindness
test up on the screen. Well, phooey! I was the only one in the class that
didn’t see normally. Partial Red/Green colorblind.

Looking at some old pictures I can barely catch hints of dark red in my hair.
Not anymore though. It’s almost all white now. Not sure why, though. Why,
I’m only, . . .uh, hold on a sec, (removes shoes and socks for counting), , ,
one, two, three, uh, carry the 5, minus 7, and uh . . . well crap! I are OLD!!
          Now when did that happen?????

Heh… I hear ya, this getting old is gettin’ ole…
My hair is grey and my beard/chest is white so no more red?
I was lucky I’m dyslexic, not color blind. That chemo did a
number on me, the only thing that isn’t grey/while is my eye
brows and those I have to trim as often as my mustache.

I thank God every day that I am not colorblind,
I would not be in the profession that I am, electronics.
Have to see the colors of those wires, resistors, capacitors, etc,
in order to “read” their values and trace their paths.

I hear that, I never got very far with electronics but I did
have to deal with motor starters, replaceable breaker
cores, that sort of thing. Being on call 24/7 made it too
hard to study. Getting 3am calls because the outside
incinerator shut down or something got VERY old.

I can see red and I can see green. It’s just when colors are slightly red or
slightly green in the mix that things get iffy.

Many years ago I had a light pink dress shirt. Very light pink. The only way
I could tell it was the pink one was to either see it hanging in the closet next
to the white ones, or to look at the label. It was a tad off-white in comparison,
and was the only one with that label. I probably had it because I made the
mistake of shopping for a dress shirt solo at some point.

I hope the P’tera don’t get worried over the “new” ordnance
they just witnessed. After centuries of core mistrust and back-
stabbing they might get a bit jittery. At least they know if someone
attacks with overwhelming force, the Empire has just the thing
    to fix it.

I’d say that depends on what is going on right now elsewhere. They
might be glad about having an ally with such weapons should the
P’tera already be at war with the Batshits.

What the Shitbats and the Grasseaters don’t know yet is that the
Queen has an unspoken treaty with the Empire. They think the
P’tera are scared of the Empire and are trying “remind” just who
the ones they need to be afraid of. I’m sure at some point they
will get the “kitty litter” missiles if some of the refits don’t
already, it’s just too good a weapon to not share with them!
The core have the idea stuck in their heads that the more ships
they have, the more powerful they are.
This just proves how wrong they are!
