The president may be a despicable human,
but he has big brass gonads, and he does
have a redeeming quality by getting David out.
Great question Admiral. Maybe tougher for the
passing through. Nah they would be tough
no matter what texture.
I disagree, at least somewhat. Yes, he is looking out for officer
David and that is commendable to some degree. But I don’t
consider him truly brave. I think he is just so arrogant that he
really cannot believe that, in the end, he is going to die. He is
just being the world-class dick he has always been. Witness the
pose and insulting Pee-Wee (BTW, did we ever get his real name?).
He is putting on a brave front; defiant to the very last. In his
heart of hearts he really doesn’t believe he is going to die
shortly. It’s gonna be one HELL of a shock when he wakes
up in the next world.
I suspect he thinks that the Empire is so soft they’ll let him go
into exile, where he can sneak back and do it again.
I think it would be funny if he’s told he’s not going to be killed,
only to see him in the courtyard, naked and welded into stocks,
so any and all can throw garbage and such at him while taking
revenge until he dies. It would make a good lesson for anyone
thinking about picking up where he left off.
Yes, the Empire is ‘soft’ enough to accept whatever deal
the President offers to avoid retribution long enough to reach his
‘impenetrable’ bunker. But the Empire knows they can destroy it!
W.A.G. metal skin, so no doubt who is AI body, when comes to rescue.
(movie quote) “SAVE the Girl,”.. IF they see a human body, an rescue
just to find out a shell…
Faraday cages are typically made of copper or brass it’s much more effective.
Gold is even better but for some strange reason they kept disappearing…
(Walks off whistling off-key)
The better the conductor the better the Faraday cage = better protection.
Make one out of a superconductor (preferably at room temperature)
and get perfect protection – even for biological life.
A faraday cage only shields against electromagnetic effects. FL Jacobs said
something that I found very interesting. He said.that “the closer that a person
is to the ship’s center of mass, the quicker they recover”. It would appear then
that the ill effects of a wormhole passage are related to spacetime
dilation/contraction and therefore a faraday cage would be of no help. I suspect
that a really strong gravity field would mitigate the.effects as well.
The problem with that is what creates the wormhole in the first place,
if it is gravitational in nature it could destabilize it and if that happens
during transit… it could be “messy”.
Every little bit helps, ask anyone that’s hopped up their car!
I’m sure before long every ship configuration will be designed
for the task they were intended for. Charged hulls to repel space
dust, anti-grav coating to reduce inertia for AI’s, larger and more
effective crystals (or some yet unknown material) for storing heat
in stealth, stream-lining to allow higher speeds through gas
clouds in space, the list goes on. While I doubt things will reach
the point where everyone can have an interplanetary ship like
in the Jetsons, I think if peace is finally reached, there could be
people living on Earth and commuting to Mars for work.
I’m assuming here.
It’s an AI. We know their senses can be set to different speeds.
For living people there might not be that much of a difference,
but an AI?
Their recovery might be much shorter if they set their systems
accordingly.
Purely theoretically, they could be through a wormhole transit,
have fired their missiles and gone full stealth before a defender
can react.
And considering the small size of the overall fleets, 12 shipkiller
missiles will either wipe out the system defense at the transit
point or at the very least put a huge dent into it.
If they have 6 of those ships in stealth with “recon” drones to act as
decoys, those those tiny ships could easily take out an entire fleet in
seconds, followed by the rest of the fleet to mop up and survivors
and smaller defense ships, the battle would be over with very minor
losses on the Imperial side.
Congratulations, you created your universe’s version of a torpedo boat.
Rarely known, this led to the development of the Destroyer ship type
or more precisely the Torpedo Boat Destroyer.
If the Empire keeps them secret until used, the defenders won’t have
the time or the resources to develop a countermeasure. Not during
wartime and not while being on the defense. That is, if anyone can
even get their sensor data out before being destroyed.
I know that PC has already got the punishment for the Pres.,
but I think impalement on the stand that Kiedra’s head
is on would be fitting. Then they drop the building on him.

Why is your skin metallic?
So I can tell people to kiss my shiny metal ass!
Sorry, Futurama fan here
The Lieutenant’s name is NOT “Bender”.
ROFLOL!!
Could be his first name, or his call sign…
Call sign “Bender”.
ROFLOL
I could totally see that.
That could be a cool name for a fast attack ship
covered in large bore grav assisted mini-guns and
missile tubes. XD
Gravity ‘Bender’?
You are forgiven; Futurama unfan.
But hey, everyone is different.

Fashion statement?
>center of mass .. minor, but measurable
Good to see their R&D has not been slacking off. That implies different
ship configurations, crew locations, many test flights each, … :}
