Good job PeeWee, mostly on how well you dragged out the suspense
for Kiedra until it snapped back at nearly the speed of light heh.
I can imagine the mental stress every time a missile or heavy round
    is fired off

The more I hear of the power of the Imperial fleet makes me want to
ask the core; What is wrong with you?!? The more I hear of the
differences that the core and the Imperial fleet tech and how adding
it all into one ship will no doubt spark a movement to them, no one
wants to be staring at the wrong end of THOSE barrels!

Something many people knew but I didn’t:
If you send Customer Service an e-mail asking for a
discount coupon, many companies will give you one.
Corsair just gave me one for 15%, Western Digital 10%.
I wish I’d known before building my new computer!

Yeah, IF they ever get to it, I sent off a few years ago,
never got a reply. Another thing I didn’t know, the cheapo
laptops use large SD cards instead of a SSD, I seen one a
guy was working on and it had 4 joined together as one.
There’s a term for it but I forget it now.

By the way: having a RAID1 (two “disk” mirroring each other)
of SD cards has been quite popular as a boot device for
virtualization severs a few years back (with SSD becoming
            pretty cheap I guess that’s changing …)

I hear that, my system came with a 225gb SSD
and it’s getting full despite my cleaning attempts,
time to start shopping I guess, can’t be as bad
              as video cards.

This is the best deal I’ve found. Western Digital (Sandisk):
                https://www.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/sandisk-ultra-3d-sata-iii-ssd#SDSSDH3-2T00-G25
Since it’s from their website, you can be sure you’ll
receive a new one, not “refurbished” or used sold as new.
I have learned not to trust Amazon.

I might look into that, and no I never buy computer parts from amazon,
my eldest did that and had noting but trouble, asked me to look and
the PS looked like a mouse had exploded inside of it. Luckily I had
a 350W spare, wasn’t really big enough, so I told him to get a new
one asap. I checked Best Buy, they had a 1TB for the same price.

Yeah, I’ve learned too late that you often get the best deals on
the manufacturer’s website. Plus, you can be sure of the quality.
Even the big box stores have been known to sell returned items
as new. Every hard drive, SSD and M.2 drive in my computers is
WD and I’ve only had to return one.
The first Seagate that I bought failed in two months and their
customer service was terrible, never got a replacement or a
refund. WD asked me some questions, sent me a new one.

I used to just go to a Fry’s electronics store that was
fairly close by, but they closed their doors while I was
having chemo I guess, my mothership left the dock…….
It’s weird, they were busy when I went there
for my 4TB external a few years back.

No, that’s not a “White Power”
sign he’s making in panel 4.
I had to change the image, the posing
was clumsy and the camera angle unclear.
    Much better now.

Panel 4 is self evidently Pee Wee indicating a dead-center bullseye.
I had to look up what you’re talking about. So now the “okay” sign
is “HATE SPEECH”??? Whiskey! Tango! Foxtrot!?!? I never knew!
There’s a passage in the Bible that might apply. “To the pure, all
things are pure, but to those who are corrupted … nothing is pure.
In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.” I have way
better things to do than look for potential hate speech.

        Actually, the two-handed gesture means
        “I fucked him/her.”
        So I’ve been told.
        I doubt if Kiedra understood…

I’ve seen the “OK” sign turned upside down but I think it’s
something a “gotcha” sign for pranks, I’ve never seen a
“white power” sign or knew what it meant.

    Isn’t is amazing . . .
How some folks will twist something you have said or done –
into something for which they can claim you have been offensive –
and then proceed to get all bent out of shape and vindictive . . . .
expecting all others to be offended on their behalf . . . .
    and if you don’t –
    Total SQIZ.

And – when hand gestures mean one thing in one country –
they lay claim to it being offensive in every country –
    regardless of where they are.
As my professor, Dr. Glen Rout, said often in class:
(to which I add to the above para)
“A pox on their houses and their horses”.

My Dad used to use Peewee’s right hand position and the
left hand finger moving around the circumference of the
right hand index finger and thumb
    -as symbology for –
    “Unaccustomed as I am . . . “

On reconsidering – the horses do not deserve any poxes –

Back in the late 90s I had somebody steal some leftovers I had brought
from home and put in the refrigerator in the break room. It was
supposed to be my lunch. I sent out an email to everyone in the office
chiding them for stealing my lunch. It included the following wish,
“A pox upon you and the entire diseased line from which you sprang!”
Never found out who took my food but I never had anything stolen again.

I had some4thing similar in the mid 90’s, The shop had an old fridge
sitting in the corner and someone decided they’d help themselves.
E-mailing wasn’t something we did so after the 3rd time I took a
rotten tomato, a few things from the cat box, a handful of road gravel
and dirt, mashed it all together and left it in the sun. Put it all in a
tupperware container labeled “Taco salad”, and put that in a brown
bag with my name on it and waited. I found out that a certain “funny
guy” had to go home sick… I ordered my lunch that day 🙂

Yeah, one battleship with a few cruisers would make
mincemeat of most ships out there, I just wonder how
many ships the core will lose before they get the point.
I think either of Mars’ moons would be in
that area of what you’re looking for.

Well, the largest ship in the Imperial Navy is the Destroyer,
the next is the Frigate, which is what they are discussing here.
There are plans for a dedicated fighter carrier,
of which two are currently being built.
But there are no plans for Cruisers or Battleships.
Later, you will see the Imperial method of clearing wormholes.

A frigate that well armed? Jeez…
Just one of those could take out a Dreadnought!
Add in an array of beam weapons and not even
one shielded would have a chance.
Not that they’d need them, a grav weapon made
a mess of the crews in their fighters.
I can see it now, the core sends a fleet to
“change the minds” of a backward planet,
when a fleet of 2 destroyers, 2 carriers,
6 frigates decloak between them and the
planet, spitting out Tobys like watermelon seeds…

one carrier,. they would not send both,.
and,, i think the navy would wait behind em,
knock out the drives,. Then ask if they wanted
            to keep playing..

Watched an interesting YouTube video the other day. It seems that
plasma weapons as depicted in SciFi are impossible – at least by
any science we have now. I forget the details but basically real
plasma doesn’t behave in a manner conducive to weaponizing it.
Of course “force fields” are equally impossible since none of the
known forces would lend themselves to being artificially projected.
But it’s fun to fantasize. BTW the Standard Model of physics is
very well experimentally proven. It’s actually better attested
than the belief that the sun rises in the east.

    • Scarsdale
      March 19, 2023, 15:26 | # | Reply

We’re reaching the point where science is held back by what we
know of a single world, if we ever leave here who can say whats
to be found. There is many things we are toying with as it is,
sooner or later something like “hard light” might be possible, but
we are a very long way off. Sci-fi has inspired things that were
unheard of 50-60 years ago, who knows what might come up
      once we are gone, Bill.

TIL Project MARAUDER, a coaxial plasma railgun powered
by the SHIVA STAR capacitor bank, was designed by the
USAF and capable of “[producing] doughnut shaped rings
of plasma and balls of lightning that exploded with
devastating effects when hitting its target.”
      It was classified in 1993.

a few years ago, US had a bright new weapon in development,
an a few computer nerds posted it.. less than a month after,
China had it an was fielding it to their troops.. SO.!
IF the US gets a new idea,,
they classify it, say it was mediocre then bury it.!!
