Look out, PC. High school and college teachers have lost their jobs for using the “N” word in
a context similar to how you did. IMS a high school teacher was fired for using that word in
the process of calling a student down for using it. That’s right. The teacher got in trouble for
using the word while forbidding a student from using it. College profs have been disciplined
for reading aloud older literature which used the word. That’s how wacko the world has gotten.
I hope you don’t get into any trouble for using the word in this comic. What a world!

It’s been tried. My webhosting service responds thusly:
“If his content offends you, stop visiting his site.”
I had one person tell me that they could have this site taken down. Then
proceed to give me orders: “You WILL do this…” etc.
If she’d tried, their response would have been “Have you contacted the author?
      How did it go?”
The Gentle Wolf is in no danger of being taken down. The only way that could
happen is if I made a direct, serious call for violence against a specific person.
But even then, I’d get a warning, first.
I’m too mellow for that sort of thing.
But I’m not going to pussyfoot around anyone. Every page of this comic has
the potential to offend someone. My response will always be, “Add some
Tannic Acid to your bath water to toughen your skin.”
And I love the fact that so many of my readers seem to be the same way.

No worries from me, I grew up in the Gary area, I got sick of being called
racist or “kracker” or “Honkie” I personal can say I’ve never used the “N”
word or any other racial slur. However I call them as I see them. one guy
had the nerve to call me a white one. Biggest laugh I ever had!
Anyway I took out my verbal filter long ago, wasn’t working anyway 😉 The
greatest danger to our country isn’t any group that they complain about,
as my father says, special interest groups. Just a pack of Karls and
Karens to make trouble and get attention and money from like minds…

PC, what former state is that supposed to be in?
My experience in the Modern South, both city and rural, folks acting
the way ‘pig belly’ is acting would cause him to get his @$$ handed
to him, either physically or through HR!
Personally, I’d probably say something along the lines of,
“Hey @$$hat! Didn’t your mama teach you to respect your elders?’
Likely get my butt handed to me, but the lawsuit would be, oh so
        Sweet!

Athens, GA. The leaders are trying to return to some fictional
version of “The Good Old Days”.
They’ve watched too many bad movies.

The “Leaders” must be the few brain damaged survivors from the nuking of Athens, Georgia.
Here in Oklahoma, talk like ‘pig belly’ gave would likely start a fight or get your butt kicked out

              Same for here in Georgia.
Athens didn’t get nuked, just the ports and some military bases
like Fort Sill and Warner Robbins.

The “boy” comment might be, PC is showing the

      “misunderstanding”.

@Scarsdale, in this day and time you would not believe what lunacy can occur. To some,
PC’s use of the “racial slurs” – irrespective of context – would be anathema. “People of color”
can say (and do) pretty much whatever they damned well please but Whites get accused if
racism just for breathing. I grew up in the South. I heard that sort of language all the time.
But, sadly, it’s a different world than when I grew up. I was just worried for my friend Catman.

For the record 1) I always thought addressing Black people as “boy” or “girl” was damned
stupid. Like the character I wondered when a Black person would get old enough not to be so
addressed. I was raised to respect my elders and address all adults (irrespective of color) as
“sir” or “ma’am”. 2) The ” N” word was just the linguistic label commonly used to refer to
people of African descent. I don’t recall it being used as a pejoritive. Hell! I heard Blacks refer
to themselves as a “n****r” all the time. I think there are entirely too many people in dire need
of daily tannic acid soaks. Whatever happened to “Sticks and stones may break my bones,
but words can never hurt me.”? An insult only has power if you allow it.

Oh I know Bill, I get tired of the outraged cry of racism when it’s they are the racist
towards anyone. The slaves are dead, their children are dead, their grandchildren are
mostly as well. Same with the slave owners, time has done to those that did the harm the
same as the harmed. Racism isn’t dead it’s kept alive by those that are on a witchhunt
for it, looking for a chance to find it and cry to the heavens “I found one! Get them!”
it’s a badge of honor. Which keeps the whites in a foul mood and starts the cycle all
          over again.
Morgan Freemen touched on this and said quite simply: “Just stop, I’m a man, you’re a
man there’s no color involved” This was on a talk show (host was a white guy) and the
host asked him how he felt about the racism issues. It wasn’t at the host, he said it
          to the camera.

Trying not to start another political dispute, but I do think that there’s other
forms of racism asides from outright slavery.

Perhaps all sides involved should take a step back and try to give the others
the kind of tolerance they’d expect in return.

That’s what I’m saying, it’s gotten out of hand. I was watching the
news recently and a black woman was on a rant on the racism
over her mixed marriage. An Asian woman had called in to support
her and she openly said “It doesn’t count for you, you’re white.”
“But I’m asian!” “You’re still white!” and so on. Some just assume
if you’re not black you’re white and racist, no if, ands, or buts.

              End of line.

The N-word was alway pejorative, even if it was just the southern pronunciation of “Negro”. So was “black”,
and once it was worse than the N-word. To people that firmly believed a dark skin or African ancestry meant a person
was inferior and created to be a slave, there couldn’t be a non-pejorative way to refer to that color or ancestry.
Some would say “colored people”, but that was just the politest way of saying “inferior”.

There were much more insulting terms when someone wanted to be insulting,
which I will not repeat, but that didn’t make the common terms neutral.

Looks like the Shitbats are about to make an appearance judging by the chapter
panel, I can’t lie I’m looking forward to this! I’m sure they are going to try every
verbal trick in the book to get what they want. I just hope Chardis and Taritha are
up to the task, I’m sure Queen Ann’gijn has had plenty of practice.

@Scarsdale, I don’t think the Shitbats are about to make an appearance. Unless PC has changed models
since the last time that they appeared the species pictured pictured in panel 5 is not a shitbat (Batavian?).
The ears are wrong and so is the color.

Question for PC or Mr Stanley: Panel 8 refers to a “hammerhead courier”. Is that a reference to the
type/class of vessel or does it refer to the species building/operating it? I do not recall reading of a
species called “hammerheads” but my memory isn’t what it once was.

Maybe the third remaining core race we haven’t met then?
I was guessing if it is a Shitbat it’s a new one we haven’t
met, we’ve far from seeing the full diversity of the races in
PC’s universe. It’s SOP for any scifi story to have a new race
or situation come up without warning.

safety,, jus sayin,. Any explosive launcher built in the US, has a
‘3 spin’ arming safety. IE: wont go boom under 30 feet. it was
designed to keep misfires from blowing up in the tube..
the problem with the “nam era” LAW was it was not used as intended,.
as the US rarely fought tanks, the LAW’s (Light ‘ANTI-TANK’ Weapon.)
were used as bunker buster or long range grenades.

That’s true, I forgot that part but to be honest, I’ve never really
followed the ordnance. Yeah LAWs were misused but in combat
with poorly trained high school grads, it was a “better than
nothing” type of issue. I’m sure those in command thought the
          same.

Lots of things were not used as intended. But you got to

As far as we know these weren’t built in the US but by the Empire.

And I got a hunch they’re not exactly top shelf Army supplies either,

You have a point….. and so does the missile.
Even if it doesn’t go BOOM! it should make a “new one”
in Sheriff Big Belly Bob as it goes through him.
And would still have the desired effect of removing
another asshat (with two assholes) from the earth.
Even if it doesn’t work as intended,
it would still get the job done.

I am thinking in terms of the resistance in Europe
during WW II. They know where the weak points
are in many systems, because they have been given
the grunt work of fixing them. They know the blind
spots that will allow them to infect official cars
with a bad case of loose lug nuts. They have been
viewed as ignorant, stupid, and invisible. Just the
sort of people who have seen what was not intended
to be seen, have heard what was not intended to be
heard, and know what was not intended to be known.
Also, because they have no respect in the society
they have no loyalty to it.
