“BANG!” NOPE! That most definitely did NOT sound good. One would hope that if a compartment was
breached to vacuum that it was unoccupied at the time. Several of the books I’ve read recently had the
crews of ships going into combat suiting up fully. I hope every compartment has easily/rapidly donning
emergency pressure suits handy. When transiting potentially hostile space it might not be a bad idea to
have everyone suited up just in case.
Nice touch having the beam weapon emanating from the tip of the cat’s tail. I don’t know if the model is
articulated but it would be cute if the tail was movable and thus would point towards a target. It would
be a neat touch to have the tail flailing about in tense situations the way real cats’ tails do when the cat
is agitated. Also, when is the pride going to get an AI for its central computer brain? Anything built these
days would have to be highly automated and we know the Empire can manufacture strong AIs. Seems
like a natural progression to make the Empire’s ships be members of the crew. The little fighting craft
(I can’t remember what they’re called) all have an AI in them. It makes no sense for the Pride and other
Empire craft not to be sapient.
To be fair, the Pride hasn’t been back for a refit since they
discovered that their fighters were sapient. A lot has happened
since they last left Catia. The joys of a semi-independent mission.
one book i read,, had the “ship suit” as a emergency vac suit.
it covered all, except the hands an head.. and those had ‘pop
out mittens’ and a ‘pop out bubble helm’. it was good for
about 5 min,, IF you had the suit gloves on and the
“Emergency collar” then it was good for 30 min..
Imperial security suite? Either someone messed up or he’s lying. I’m sure
Impsec will want to know about that. Thought it funny she’d catch him not
looking her in the eyes with her leaning way over the counter but it’s a
great way to get a man to forget asking unwanted questions.
I rather hear a bang than KA-BANG followed by a BOOM but yeah not good,
it looks to me they seal all hatches on launch rather it’s combat or not is a
good policy on any space craft. An AI running the ship is a great idea but no
matter how well they give an AI info it still has to learn how do run things,
the main ship may have one already but it’s not “ready” to have an active
role as yet. Makes me wonder if any other species has true AI. On the other
hand it wasn’t long ago they learned the AI’s in the Tobys was sentient so
they haven’t got around to installing one yet.
‘True AI.’ The Lir in my writing have gone far beyond that (present
-day Lir, not those of whom you have read, Cat-Man). ‘AI’ are at
this time advanced into full life-forms / species, with their own
autonomy – Like Cat-Man’s Dragonflies. They are however still
‘bound’ to the Lir in the sense that they live mostly by the same
thinking / reasoning as to their place in Creation.
Much as I hate to admit it, a BANG sound followed by what could only
be described as a crumpling beer can sound, I would think, would
likely be a far more disturbing sound, as this would not only
indicate a hull breech, but a rapid decompression as well. (They
did a ‘Mythbusters’ episode about an imploding tanker car that
sounded like that).
This would not only indicate a major hull breech, but also explosive
decompression. damage to adjoining compartments as well. Potentially,
a crippling amount of damage.
..”Imperial security suite.”.. if it is like the missiles,
it was “given” to them! so,, Impsec don’t have to
look for it,. an can control it, when need to.
So, not a grav beam (at least the much-smaller beams from the rifles
were invisible as one would expect) but something likely EM laser
based. So much for “Give them one warning, THEN…” He could have
taken the missile out FIRST, when it’s momentum would have still had
the debris cloud moving “across their bow” rather than at them.
Everything before this has been maneuvering and posturing. Catia’s
Pride just fired the first REAL shot and made this a war.
I read that as the local fired a missile. then the Pride
destroyed their ship and the missile. but were tagged
by debris. Pride’s actions were defensive, not offensive.
Security ship — local law enforcement, however compromised they are —
just launched. Looks like a warning shot — missile apparently vectored
to pass in front of Pride, not at it. Notably, no communication
preceding or accompanying “warning shot”.
Pride destroys security ship.
Target (security ship) destroyed. Status change! Missile changed course —
apparently in response to ship destruction. Was it? Or was this always their
intent? No proof either way, but observers will read it that way — Coming at
us. … Shrapnel cloud headed our way at high speed — continuing the
momentum the missile had just prior to its destruction. Prior to this it would
have missed the Pride as the missile would have (unless the appearance of
being a warning shot was a ruse, and with the security ship destroyed no
one will ever know for sure).
That’s all I said.
It was an act of aggression by the security ship and that same ship
was warned off by Captain Ktre’rrt before the Pride made it’s attempt
to leave so any and all results of that act is entirely that security
ship’s commander’s fault. Clearly ordered to by the core to drain the
info and tech from the Pride. A very illegal act since the Pride had
done nothing prier to this act. The only other slightest possible
blame is that Palas and Michell refused to allow themselves to be
captured by the shitbats security forces (which was an illegal act in
itself) so this was just a desperate attempt to get away with murder
and to offer apologize later to all victims(that survived of course)
for the “oops”.
I agree Jochi I’m afraid this will kick off the war but
it was coming no matter what, it’s how the council
will react. And with what assets. Clearly the Empire
has seriously weaken the core’s hold on the Fringe
and many of the new members will stand with the
Empire in this. The Mighty core will find themselves
standing in an empty room with all the rest of the
ex-members looking in with disapproval at best,
anger the worst!
Don’t feel too bad I can remember talking on a rotary
wall phone, while watching our bl/w TV with tin foil
flags on the rabbit ears holding a transistor radio
that quit working because I had dropped it. My father
had his ’59 Volvo and my mother had a ’62 Rambler
wagon… yeah…
Another oldie but goody pity it didn’t last too long.
I remember the trucker fad I had gone so far as to
setup CB base with a roof antenna just so I could
talk to anyone at home, sadly no one would pickup
LOL.
I’m from the southern most tip of lake Michigan glad I’ve moved
south it’s getting hit pretty good too. We’d get some snow but
not like this it’s a month early.
Yeah just a little south of it, not many good memories but enough.
Post ‘nam era there was still a lot of pissed off teens protesting
and rioting about the draft. If it wasn’t for my training I doubt I
could of survived.
It’s not reaching me here I’m east of Indianapolis now we’re
getting flurries mostly. About 80 miles west of Ohio, I’m used
to heavy snow, we moved here and I couldn’t believe they were
closing schools for 2-3 inches heh.

Anything with Claude Aikins in it has to be good:

It was. I remember the show and I remember the song.
Of course, my dad was a long haul trucker at the time.
It came out about 15 yrs after Cannonball.
Another trucking story.
It was in black and white TV. Geez I’m old.

fixed..
Anyone here in the Buffalo/Watertown NY area?
It’s not looking good.
