Looks like Ioi is about to discover that hammering “the mutts” might
be more difficult than she imagines. I don’t recall the exact makeup
of the squadron Teresa gave to King Rex but it is for sure going to
require something with more firepower than a dispatch boat to hurt
the Dogshuans. Too bad she didn’t decide to command
the reprisal mission herself.
President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal B Woodman Domestic Violent Extremist SuperStraight
PC is on the cusp of action on both strips.
Tenshi is pissed, and ready for action, NOW! I would
call it “righteous judgement” on the prisoners.
Ioi is pissed, and ready for action, NOW! (but it
remains to be seen just who will hammer who)
A common theme for both would be from
“Shawshank Redemption”,
the cross-stitch in the warden’s office,
“His Judgement Cometh, and that Right Soon”
I can’t see all that as being an unintentional slip by Ambassador
Markin so they will be expecting a visit from the Goblins.
But is a ‘Dispatch Boat’ a fact finding vessel or their basic ‘Enforcer’
unit (such as the Dreadnought and two cruisers the cats took out)
I think the Goblins also appearing at Catia will be a surprise to them though.
Tenshi seeing a victim she recognized is a nasty twist in the proceedings.
However Jan did suggest the possibility in TGW 932.
One slip, maybe, but this is the second slip.
Also, we don’t know how many, if any, other new members and allies of the Empire were on
the route of the Ulroth’s Dream. They are already in a panic mode and don’t think further
than the information they have. Anyone thinking clearly would send dispatch boats to all
Fringe Worlds they are trading with.
Or they have been in a routine for so long that they simply can’t conceive bigger problems.
We’ll see.
More thoughts on the “Dispatch Boat”; There are a number of definitions
of what is a ship and what is a boat in Maritime use.
Size: If it is longer than 100ft (30M) then it is a ship; if it is shorter it is a boat.
Design1: If it is designed to carry a smaller watercraft it is a ship; if it is not it
is a boat. (Note lifeboats are not considered for this rule)
Design2: If it is designed to traverse the open sea it is a ship; If it is designed for
coastal/rivers/lakes it is a boat. This is sometimes rephrased as salt water/fresh water.
Center of Gravity/buoyancy: If the CofG is above the CofB it is a ship;
If the reverse it is a boat.
None of these are universally true and in borderline cases it is often the designer that gets the final say.
Typically Destroyers and smaller fighting ships are regarded as boats irrespective of the definitions.
Ioi has said she will “send a dispatch boat” to “hammer them hard” (if necessary).
On the surface that sounds like a Destroyer or a Frigate; but she also sent ‘just’ two destroyers with the
(presumed armed) trader to establish “trade” with Catia “because she didn’t want to appear too frightening.”
I think what she is sending is a small carrier group equipped to attack multiple ground targets.
The name ‘Dispatch Boat’ comes from the fighters the carrier deploys to ‘dispatch’ the enemy.
The Goblins will not expect to find a full battle squadron awaiting them
but if the fighters have ship killer missiles available they could give it a real run for there money.
What I think will swing the battle in the Dogishuans favor is King Rex recalling all (or as many as he could contact)
of his mercenaries (pirates) back to base.
More like she’s sending a courier to quickly find out what’s going on,
and to warn the Dogishuans against trying to slip the leash. She’s
not going to send a battle group, since there isn’t one at Xanadu
and it would take too long to send home with orders.
Besides, she’s thinking that all she needs to do is kick a puppy.
That was the other real possibility, but I chose to predict the big
stick option as a first response instead of a rap on the knuckles.
Either way they are going to find they have been abusing this ‘puppy’
far too long and it can now bite back.
The question becomes, will the dogs let the Goblins return or not;
to keep the core guessing as long as possible?
Tenshi’s angry and rightly so but cooler heads must make the final decision I’m afraid
she’ll regret anything she’ll say or do once it’s over.
Odd how they knew everything that was served I doubt it was accidental more likely these
guys are getting setup for a fast take down and to give the dogs more ships? Hard to say…
I have to agree with the others. Serving cofeve casually like it was no big deal seemed intentional.
Serving Basenji beef clinches it. The Empire is intentionally sending a message, announcing their
presence and a bit of the breadth of their alliances, specifically Aquatane and Dogishua. To any
rational mind, the original statement that Catia is rich in heavy metals (we know this is false
anyway) and has few biological resources (also false, although the bit about their low population
is true) SHOULD be obvious disinformation. And it is being done with such casual indifference that
the message SHOULD be ‘We don’t care if you know. We have nothing to fear from you.’ But I bet
they read it as ignorant unsophisticated hicks who are just that clumsy.
Clearly the “Gob’s” are cheating the dogs hard and like any abusive partner they
don’t want anyone else to show them an easier time of it there’s no mention of
an exclusive trade contract so this is just another case of a weaker race being exploited
purely because they can.
I’m not surprised Tenshi knew one of them it’s not a major city it was only a matter of time
before these guys were caught even if they focused on orphans someone would of noticed
sooner or later either these animals were just dumb or wanted to get caught… or thought
they were too smart to be caught…
Everyone here has pretty much said and theorized what I think, so I have nothing to add.
One thing I believe does not get said enough is the detail Mr. Cat puts into his art.
The mirror reflects the painting and the back of the Goblin as well as the ‘dresser’.
Notice the tear in Tenshi’s eye. Great work sir.
mirrors / tear , i agree..
those are not mirrors,.. who puts distracting mirrors in
a conference room,.? those are a, two way mirror or a
projection (tv) / monitor device…
I’m still afraid that either Crimson Corpulence or Janice – or both –
is going to object to executing Ryder and company. In my experience
such folks inhabit an entirely different perceptual universe than we
do. They almost never let hard reality interfere with their ideology.
Until it’s personal and even then… It’s a pity King Garion can’t invoke Catian law here
but letting them swing might give pause to the next bunch of sicko’s out there.
Like the judge from Ghostbusters II “…reach back to a simpler time and have you burn
at the stake!” Wait… the Skulary brothers… Fat and skinny… Big Red and Janice…
naaaa….
first i believe in the death penalty.! but,, it don’t work, ‘as intended.
IF it worked then no one would do it.! you will always have the ‘I don’t care,’
it does not affect me, or bat shit crazy.. ect.
and that is why you so many saying ‘ do away with the death penalty,.
or the “my lil timmy don’t deserve that.”
Too often the types that do those crimes either think they can get away with it or they
are too smart to get caught. They are almost always wrong. The reason serial killers/rapist
get away with it for so long is they target random victims “normal” murderers do it out of
passion or personal gain and that gives the cops a link they can trace. Serial offenders
have patterns so sadly they can keep doing it until that pattern is figured out and either
a trap is set or they trace the “perp’s” hide out(s). So no in that context it doesn’t work
it only removes the “problem” so society can move on and no just jailing them with some
hope of parole is a very bad idea after all “life” sentence is actually 40 – 99 years Charles
Manson has been up for parole twice now… scary…
The key point here is we are talking about the Wolf Empire and they DO have
capital punishment as their main deterrent for serious (in their eyes) crime.
The Ryder trial is over, all defendants have been judged guilty on all counts
and the sentence set. all appeals have been made and rejected.
That is not going to change!
While we do not know what that sentence was everyone here is assuming (almost
certainly correctly) that is that they hang.
While I initially thought the meeting was to determine how much detail to
release I now think it is to set the level where he wants it.
If he has it right then the public will not be excessively traumatized and
most SJW, while not agreeing, will not be sufficiently motivated to do
something about it.
The only indicator against this is the panel are reacting as if they are
to set the sentence – which is illogical as a sentence needs to be imposed
for the defense to know if it is worth appealing or not.
The King never said anything to that extent if the 6 people there think it’s what they are there for it’s on them.
And he’s said very little of the video is suitable for public viewing and it’s to be sealed for the familys’ sake.
The standard punishment for these crimes are spelled out in the laws this was mainly to avoid public
outcry and for King Garion to see what the the average person feels about this case and if the punishment
they normally use would fit the crime. These guys are toast he’s just wanting to see if hanging will satisfy
all those effected. I’ve already voiced my opinion so yeah…

Thanks, Jan. Your idea added a little kick to the story.

>else, we’re going to have to hammer them, hard!
That sounds more like extortion by a tyrant,
then a check-in from a peaceful Trading Partner :{
It IS hard to see how it fits into a colossal mutual nonagression and defense treaty.
Probably have to argue breach of contract or something.

orphans = sooner.. Emperor an by default Empress controls the ‘orphanage’..
and she goes there all the time , to practice healing..
True I forgot that part but I thought this wasn’t earth?
That’s the problem with an intergalactic
never sure where you are if you don’t fly there lol.
