Aaron just showed that he’s an Inside Playah. He shut down the two androids (not “robots”) with a secure password. He didn’t have time to access and reprogram, so the password had to have been installed at the same source (presumably Imogen) that both Aaron and the technology thieves had access to. But Aaron showed that he had the higher (more inside) access. GO AARON!!
That or the machines (“robot” “android” – both are machines) gave Aaron the codes. See my discussion below including possible legal issues. BTW in Texas any resident can stop a theft by seizing the stolen merchandise and detaining the thief. That is what allowed me to detain shoplifters when I worked security at strip malls. Under Texas law any resident may make a lawful arrest for a felony “in view”. Given Aaron’s position and rank in the empire I figure he has arrest authority given probable cause. Refresh my memory, anybody, wasn’t it Robert who King told to bone up on imperial law (what little there is of it) and wasn’t Robert one time called to sit as a judge in a case?
Are we missing a page between 867 and 868? The second half seems as if there’s a disconnect.
Seems as if The Horned Ones (sounds like something from HP Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos) were playing dead, and launched counter attack missiles, or have an automatic launch system in case of power loss (what could go wrong?).
No attempt at communications between the two parties?
no,, those are the two missiles “fired across the bow.” the captain found out they are improved ,, and wants to see by how much…
and no comms yet,, seems the horned ones have all power thru the engines…
I think P is referring to the authenticated (shutdown? takeover?) sequence Aaron recited in p3. Looks like two uncommon words extremely unlikely to occur together in conversation followed by an 8 character alphanumeric authentication code. The question is what it actually accomplished. I can see a couple of possible alternatives. One would essentially be a warm shutdown. That would leave the machines essentially shut down but able to be restarted by p aroperly constructed voice command. It could also reset the machines’ command logic such that those people are no longer recognized as having command authority. The code phrase could also have replaced the former “masters” with Aaron. From the machines’ pose I’d venture to guess Aaron effected a shutdown.
Now, either all empire built advanced software has built in back doors (the way the feds want Apple to put in all iPhones) to which Aaron, by virtue of his position, is privy or the machines, not wishing to have to return with their “masters”, volunteered the data so Aaron could prevent it. Ordinarily Aaron would be in the wrong interfering with those men’s property rights – property rights being about the most fundamental of all rights – but the fact that the machines were constructed apparently using proprietary materials and methods ought to constitute sufficient probable cause to allow Aaron to impound the machines pending further investigation. I expect the next installment to include some sort of complaint by one of the men that Aaron has interferred with their property rights and a demand that he release them immediately. The fact that in p4 they are so surprised tells me that they were not aware of the existence of the override procedures.
I think it has a lot to do with the fear.TPTB has been spreading and the natural desire for order and security. Jefferson once wrote, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.” I would certainly agree with him as would, I suspect, most of us denizens of PC’s marvelous libertarian universe. Unfortunately I do not believe that most people are so inclined. Remember what Franklin said about giving up liberty for security. I suspect many (most) would gladly give up basic liberties in exchange for even the illusion of safety and security. Even now, long after my governor ended the lockdown, the majority cling to masks and social distancing. They also cry for universal vaccination. As an article on American Thinker put it recently, “If the vaccines work, why aren’t they working?” As another author at AT put it this is all taking on the trappings of a religeon. “Misinformation!” is today’s equivalent of “Heresy!” with the media giants enforcing the orthodoxy of the moment and publicly punishing any/all who deviate no matter their ostensible liberal credentials (J K Rowling comes to mind.) In a time of uncertainty people long for order and stability and will welcome any strongman who promises to provide it irrespective of the cost iǹ liberty.
I think that some of it has to do with people getting validation from external sources instead of from internal morality.

Got a question for our former grunts. I’ve been looking at pix of different armored vehicles and I keep seeing tubes on the turret or sticking out from the hull. The tubes look to be about 10 – 12 inches long and 2 or 3 inches diameter. I see them on the armored vehicles of many countries. Anybody know what they’re for?
PeterCat is correct – these are Smoke Dischargers/Launchers.
The UK fits 66mm versions, which are smoke only, but the other common calibre, 76mm, can fire smoke or Fragmentation, one for obscuring the vehicle, and the other for close in anti-infantry defense.
Thales are the UK Design Authority for these, but several other companies make them for other European countries – Rheinmetall springs to mind, off the top of my head.
Whilst it may seem old-fashioned, a smoke screen can be very good at blocking laser ranging systems, thus reducing your opponent’s accuracy.
Thanks, all. I had seen those things and had wondered what they were. In the stories the crew would need to.disengage.and the vehicle.commander would order “pop smoke” when they were about to bug out. I understood the use for.smoke grenades.Ijust never thought about how it would be done. Now.I.know. Guess I’ m not quite.ready to move down the way from my.folks.at.Ft.Sam.Houston Natl. cemetery just yet if I’m still.asking questions and still learning, huh?
Ya done good, Bill. Ya asked an honest educated question, and got an honest educated answer, and learned from the experience. Yer not ready to move on to meet yer folks just yet. If I could buy you a round or a shot, I would. HOOOAH!

Gotta share this with you guys. Found a really odd seemingly odd censorship/bowdlerizing effect on YouTube. I’m watching a true crime video and it’s about a couple who have been living on a small “yacht” based in Newport Beach, Ca. The couple suddenly stops calling family and their sons call Dad’s brother, a retired police chief. The Uncle goes to where the boat is docked and notices some odd things about the condition of the boat. Seem the owner was very particular about keeping things properly stowed. There is a nautical (?) description which I know about things being kept “spic and span” (there is/was even a cleaning product brand named spic-n-span). Anyhow, due to my terrible hearing I always watch YouTube using closed captioning when available. When the video narrator mentioned the boat’s owner always keep things “spick and span” that’s not how it displayed in the caption. the caption read “[___} and span”. What?! The software considers the word “spick” in “spick and span” to be a RACIAL SLUR?!?! Crap! Just more proof that I have lived TOO long. Its as bad as many years ago when I was active in flight simulation and the message boards had us flying our virtual airplanes in a “thingy-pit”. apparently the other word for rooster is “thingy”. And the illegal fighting would be thingy fights.

i could,, but why.??

Nah. Made me laugh. I needed that.

yes it was Robert,. TGW-128.
The chapter were the judge ‘mis-interpreted’ the law and got jailed for his efforts?

Just the patent violations alone might allow Ambergris to seize the AIs. Applicable law determining.
Ambergris? You mean Aaron or Mavia?

Got any pix to show?
My first thought from your description was for smaller caliber auto weapons or other optics
Here is a photo of a Chinese PLA infantry fighting vehicle. There are clusters of the tubes I’m curious about on either side of the front of the turret. I have seen similar things on many armored vehicles.

also can block infrared..

Actually: well played.
