i’m guessing here,, IF they are going to hunt “pirates” … they are going to need to be a little more versatile, then a diplomatic ship..
still guessing,, an a single AI controlling the craft for swarm tactics… IE: they want em to surrender, not fight..
How nice! Being a repair tech for a majority of my working career, how great to have an AI that talks back to you to tell when you’re on the right track.
But the view out that porthole, at that altitude, with so little between me and breathing vacuum (and a possible malfunction), would send me into a hypoxic tizzy.
Whether that’s nice or not depends on how much time you spend working on the AI. I was once an F-111 electronics tech. We had huge automated testers for the electronics boxes from the aircraft, but spent 2/3 of our time fixing the testers. Once we got the tester working so we could work on the parts from the airplane, usually it was a self-test module that failed…
Those were 1960’s electronics. I hope it got better with improved technology, but with any technology it’s certainly possible to screw up a design so it hinders rather than helps the repairman.
It’s been a while, this is still the Catia’s Pride.
It’s been refitted for pirate hunting with more crew space and less room for cargo.
Still a diplomatic vessel, of course.
Those small craft are new to me. So Esme is what? The AI on one of those?

Esmay is Dismay.

Now that brings up an interesting idea.
I presume the Jonathan panels are a flashback?
The first three were. These are current.
“So the amplifier is bad”.
I can see troubles ahead. Need to:
Manually dog the hatch. Wear a space suit and tether.
THEN start repairs.
Good, loving daughter. So, Chira IS still living with them.
If that’s still Catia’s Pride, those lower ports were sure refitted quickly. If it’s a sister ship and the crew transferred over, what’s its name?
