OT: The VA issued me my new hearing aids yesterday. Wow! I can actually
understand most of what people are saying. They have bluetooth and
can connect to two devices at once. I have them connected to both my
phone AND my tablet. Plus, when I’m on the phone the audio my hearing
aids picks.up.is transmitted to the phone.so.it is completely hands
free. Better yet, they mute the background noise so I can hear the
phone better.
Even better, with my ears talking to my tablet, I can watch videos
on my tablet and understand the dialog. It’s going to take a while
to get used to the things but I’m up for the challenge.
Re: the Catman’s question, I think I could be able to listen
to and understand an audio book – at least I have been able to understand
some youtube creators whose first language was most DEFINITELY NOT
English. So that’s quite an improvement. As far as music goes the
results from an admittedly limited sample (Holst’s “Mars” and “Jupiter”
from his “Planets” suite plus Pachelbel’s “Canon in D Major” were
definitely mixed. On the Holst I was actually able to hear most of the
music – certainly well enough to recognize and enjoy music I love and
with which I am very well acquainted. However, the Pachelbel was a
total disaster. I know the piece well. What I heard sounded like every
musician in the ensemble was drunk out of their minds! I suspect it is
something about the huge amount of processing my new ears is doing but
the whole ensemble sounded terribly off key. I never had perfect but I
did have very good relative pitch – i.e. I could tell if two notes were
the same pitch and whether the interval was correct. Before I got my
new ears, my hearing was so bad that I could not even recognize my own
compositions from a CD I recorded from midi output several years ago.
I could definitely empathize with Gary Oldman’s Beethoven in “Immortal
Beloved” in the scene where Oldman has Beethoven lay his head on the
top of the piano while he banged the keyboard as hard as he could. My
ears aren’t – quite – that bad but they are pretty bad. I’ll have to
explore more music to see what I can and cannot stand to listen to.
The Pachelbel is for sure out.
Okay. I went to both 518 and 606. The first sounded good if a tad
tinny. Between my loss of sensitivity and tinnitus I lose consonants
which are high frequency entities. But the first sounded pretty good.
The Elton John was a muddy, off-key mess. I don’t know what for sure
is going on but some music sounds pretty good while other pieces
sound horrible. I’d really like to be able to listen to those two
Celtic pieces Petercat had running in the background of the two
scenes of Amilu dancing. I’d appreciate just the page’s to those
two. Even on my tablet I can easily modify the link data to go to a
different page. I could hear them well enough through the tablet
speakers and just my ears so now I want to hear them through my aids.
Hi Bill, good for you with your hearing aids. Do yours have a music
(for lack of a better word) switch. Mine do and it makes a world of
difference especially in Classical. It really makes everything
cleaner and clearer. No good in a crowd if you forget to revert back.
Good luck.
Paul, no such luck. All I have is the volume controls – 5 levels
each above and below the default setting. There are teeny tiny rocker
switches on each hearing aid to run the volume up and down. Either
one controls both. How they are able to push a radio signal through
my thick skull is a mystery to me. As regards the music difficulties;
I suspect that the CPUs in the machines are doing so much processing
that some music will always be inaccessible. I’m not looking in this
horse’s mouth. I’m just grateful for what I got especially since it
is on the taxpayers’ dime.
You’ve earned through your service.
That’s probably what got your ears in the first place.
I have a special phone from the hearing aid company
that is just terrific to use. To an ordinary hearing person,
it is like a regular phone. To me it is a stereo phone.
It sends through both ears. I don’t miss conversations now.
Good luck!!
I can relate Bill, last year a had a serious ear infects in my left side
now all i hear is along the lines of an old refrigerator/freezer pump
on my left shoulders running 24/7. My right ear works ok, but these
days my favorite word is “Huh?”. The sound is at the same volume
as speech, so it’s hard to sleep.
My first thought wasn’t celebrity fixation kink sex doll, it was
replacement coup — with the programming on the AI carefully modified
toward adaptability, improvisation, as much background as they could
give it, and loyalty to the prospective new regime. Ending up with
something much less free-willed but with a possibility of pulling
off the charade, at least long enough. I still think Imperial Intel
needs to very carefully check the remaining six AI for post-production
tampering.
Yeah I’d be in a murderous rage if I found that too not to mention
that AI’s life would be forfeit if it was discovered at the wrong
time, but having a duplicate is a good tactical move until the
attackers noticed the target didn’t drop. These guys are clearly
money grubin’ pervs but who could say if it wasn’t a one-off buyer’s
request I’d be getting ALL the names of their customers ASAP and
running background checks.
I’m with Jochi on this,. a coup,. first, these guys (smith & jones)
don’t seem bright enough.. they didn’t even recognize Aaron.! and
did they even know the green haired, or was told / asked to make.!?
and then second, these guys folded way to fast, to be “The Leader”.
these guys thought they were in charge,. a leader is too self
confident, they would be turning this around to their favor.. or
putting the blame else where..
IF Matthew was to find out that she is to be a hyper realistic
replacement I would let it play out to get the “Leader”..
but this is Catman’s so,. lets see where this goes.!!
Ditto on the replacement coup. I don’t think they would be so blatant
or stupid to use her for entertainment. That would be too obvious
and wouldn’t really fool her friends for long.
I was wondering if the customer might be the mystery man from http://thegentlewolf.net/comic/tgw-614/ who had a thing for Teresa’s
mother and thought she should have been his daughter.
The fact that the android would be anatomically correct could add
a perv angle. (I didn’t like the guy anyway)
Thanks for the link. I’ve suspected this guy being the mastermind
behind Doc Smith and Glasses Jones since we first saw them. Since
he didn’t and probably doesn’t want Teresa harmed, if he is behind
this conspiracy, I suspect he has a luxurious holding cell prepared
for her while he tries to convince her he would be a better father
figure.
Shame we’ll be losing the anime fetish body (even if it bugs Bill 🙂 ),
but I look forward to seeing how hard it is to tell Annie from Teresa.
Since the dragonflies can communicate with the AIs telepathically, it
is conceivable that one that looks a lot like Dagger COULD bond with
Annie, making the LMD impersonation even harder for an outsider to detect.
It could be even more interesting, in that Annie seems to have some
similar personality traits to Teresa, and with bound dragonflies,
could share enough of Teresa’s memories and personality traits, as
to make the similarities almost identical…

that look on Crystal’s face,,. if that is not empathy…
i don’t know what is.!
My first thought upon the various fleet fighting styles laid out,
was the Spanish Armada vs the English Fleet.
Lir and their allies use both styles as the situation constantly shifts.
Okay so now we know why Matt was so “upset” when he and Sharon
walked in. Not sure Sharon coulda stopped me before I took at
least one of them out.

Way cool, Bill. I’m happy for you.
How are you with music? Can you enjoy the audible pages now?
