I’ve stopped arguing with artists.
“You decide the price, the customer decides the value”
never goes well.

My favorite is:
Them: “The government should support me, because I create beauty.”
Me: “If you created beauty, you wouldn’t need taxpayer support.”
But then, I’m wise enough to realize that what I produce here is
only worth $75 a month…
I’m happy that I enjoy creating and storytelling. https://www.patreon.com/c/user?u=20043190

I got fed up with the “hoity-toity” types
a LONG time ago, slapping a $100k+
price tag and complain when critics
or buyers scoff and walk away. An
Auction is the best place to sell art
anyway, I’ve seen some stupid high
bids because a couple of rich clowns
start to compete with each other.
TAKE THE DAMNED SWORD!!
It’s “value” is not just in the
material, workmanship, and age.
It’s “value” is also in the deeds
and honor of the owners, past,
present, and future. It’s “value”
is in the emotions bestowed upon
it by its owners.
If it were me, there in Miral’s place,
I would bow deeply while accepting
the sword, and probably be crying
as well. I would also make a vow
to wear, carry and use that sword
with as much honor as all previous
owners. And to return that sword
to the Shimizu, even to Moss Shimizu
herself, when the time is right and
honor has been satisfied.
But that’s just me. I can be a big
softy at the right times.
Miral, you’re using your culture to judge another, NOT
smart! Take the sword, and don’t put in a safe. It
deserves to be used in combat to uphold the honor
it has. Shim’s daughter deserves a sword that has
kept it’s honorable use.
You KNOW that the “boss” is one of the guys when
he starts to chant “There once was a man from
Nantucket…”
There’s a bit Asimov wrote in “Caves of Steel” (where a human
detective is forced to partner with a robot carefully crafted to pass
as human in an investigation) when the human is hungry and asks
if his partner can eat. “I’m a robot, I’m powered by an energy cell.
I don’t need to eat.” “I didn’t ask if you HAD TO eat, I asked if you
CAN. It seems like that’s something your designers would have
allowed for to keep up your disguise.” “Yes, I can mimic eating. The
food is stored hygienically in a compartment.” “Spare me the details.”
They eat. Later the robot offers him bite-sized but unchewed pieces
of sandwich, and doesn’t understand his reluctance.
I am a big Asimov fan,
especially his robot stories dealing with the three laws of robotics.
It gives a nice kind of logic to a robot’s behavior in his universe.
For robits in general, the three laws are great, but for an advanced AI,
the movie “I-Robit” showed that they could be interpreted in a way that
would be bad for the human population.
Well, let’s face it a majority of humanity is dumb as bricks,
and willingly let’s their world be destroyed. I can see where V.I.K.I.
is coming from when wanting to control the amount of people.
It is a future I would hate, but is a logical one when the state of
the world is the future as depicted in that movie.
Most of the Asimov stories are a great way of warning people,
while still being a good read.
How about “I will accept your sword and all it entails if that is what you
want. But I hope it is a step in you recovering, restoring or cleansing
your honor so that I may return it to you and not wait for your daughter.
My kind’s lifespan is shorter than yours. Will you let me know what I
can do to help you in this regard, or at least not be an obstacle?” I know,
too wordy. That’s why I don’t write webcomics.
This is assuming Shimizu HAS a daughter, or produces one. (She
probably feels obligated by her honor to try, but you can’t control
the gender of your offspring (yet). Still, I am thinking the odds are
very low but nonzero that this could develop into a close bonding
that could result in Miral’s kit being ‘adopted’ in a sense by Shimizu
and being the ‘daughter’ she wants the sword passed to. And no, I
don’t recall us being told the gender of her and Jochi’s (first) kit.
At some point if Shimuzi doesn’t have a husband, her father will find
one for her. Most likely a political marriage, if her father is following
the old ways. But I agree, Miral has to be middle-aged by now, she’ll
most likely be retiring in less than 15 years. So Shim better know
that fact or be in for a surprise.
Funny thing, I discovered a stink-bug had crawled into
a bubble package of self-adhering bandage, so I trapped
it inside. I Named him “Alfred” or Fred for short. so Now
I have “Stinky Fred” walking slowly around and around
inside. Yes, yes, I am crazy 😛 😉
Every winter we have an entire platoon of these things
show up everywhere, bug spray is a bad idea, and
smacking them is worse, so we trap them in things
and let them die off. my sister has a water bottle
full of them ever year.
Ah, yes. Value vs Worth vs Cost. Three potentially wildly
different measures of the same exact thing.

she is also giving her ‘lost’ honour.
Take the sword, use it in honour.

Comment too long, or did I accidentally hit a bad word?
