some sort of oil on my forehead and told me to say 10 Our-Fathers (what
Protestants know as the “Lord’s Prayer”). I dutifully said the Lord’s Prayer
10 times even though my understanding of ultimate reality does not allow
for such things. Anyhow I had the surgery the next morning and everything
went well. Now I’ve been cut on more times than I like to think about and
every time – every last time – I have experienced some sort of complication.
Some complications were minor and others major but I ALWAYS
experienced some sort of complication after getting cut on. Except that
time! Absolutely zero complications after that surgery. I cannot explain it
but something was different about that surgery. Almost made me
consider converting to Catholicism.

I am not from USA, thats for sure. I am not a muslim, my parents are catholic.
I was drawn to the Bundeswehr and served my time.
I did work in a muslim country for many years.
There are some muslims in my country since people from Turkey were invited
to work in germany in the 1960s. They came mostly from rural areas and are
often quite faithful muslims. But its the third or fourth generation now and most
of them are not that interested in religion – looks like the local culture got some
impact. Later some muslims came from arabic speaking countries but they dont
have much influence to the general society nor to the people with turkish origin.
Some years ago many people came from Syria, Irak and Afghanistan and i dont
see much impact on society except for some bigger cities. The head doctor who
did the surgery for my wifes new knee is from egypt, the orthopedist in the ReHa
clinic from syria. Took him lots of effort to get his profession acknowledged.
There are days like Christmas or Easter in muslim religion too.
When i was young the catholic fasting time of 40 days before Easter started after Karneval.
So fridays only fish, no sweets or alcohol and all that. Christmas and Easter are celebrated
by almost everybody, its part of the culture. Similar with the muslims and their fasting time
called Ramadan. They dont eat during the day but in nighttime, and they have their own
important days to celebrate. In some city areas they all make Christmas presents and presents
for Eid Kabir (breaking fasting or the sugar feast). In other places it is more separated.
Usually the poorer areas.
There are girls who cover their hair even though its not custom in their families.
Often its teenage interest in religion or typical protest towards the parents.
Few get brainwashed from anti social media. some even went to Syria or Irak to
join the IS. When they come back and found they face some trial at court.
My wife and I knew many Turkish people in Germany. Great people, as long as you
understood that their ways were different than German and American ways.
Her favorite doctor in the emergency room where she worked (German hospital)
was Turkish, our families were frequent guests in each others’ homes.
One of the reasons we both admired him so was his personal courage… He stayed

Everyone else ran and hid.

members would have been very effective. As for possible machine gun
positions outside, never forget that many church goers are veterans and it is
likely some/many would be combat veterans. They would know how to attack
such machine gun nests. Armed church goers would be an example of an
instant, ad hoc “militia”. As for shooting one another church members would
likely recognize pretty much everybody who regularly attends. Finally, so far
as I know no “good people with guns trying to help” have been shot by police.
You forget that by the time the police arrive on scene the incident is pretty
much over. So your anti-armed civilians argument is shown to be fallacious.
In any case it is better to go down fighting for one’s loved ones than to
huddle in fear waiting to be shot!
This sounds like a coordinated and planned attack,
not a single suicide attack.
These people are fanatics, but that does not mean they are stupid
or not military trained.
They would have planned some things ahead.
I am not sure if they all know each other in a church –
but i don’t know american churches either.
There was a time when i went to church regularly and i knew only
some people personally and some other by seeing.
So anybody in my church could possibly be a terrorist too.
I have seen some videos from body cameras where police shot the
wrong person and police shooting at each other but i can’t find
them now with all that Trump madness.
I’m betting the bomber just walked in the door and set it off,
so only the people in the back of the church were hurt/killed.
I agree with Bill here, I doubt they took the time to setup
actual placements, they were expecting dazed and confused
people rushing out, not armed and ready to fight. Jerico is
NOT like “normal” people in the USA, they are alive and ready
to fight for their lives and for those they care about! NOT
sheep ready for the slaughter. If people weren’t SO afraid
of guns, crime would almost be extinct. Then the restrictions
can kick back in… If the need is proven.
I grew up in the Gary, In. area in ’78, at the time it was dubbed
“The murder capital of the world” I have scars on my arms
and body from knife fights and such when guns were rare,
explain to me how getting rid of guns would have changed
anything for me? If my girlfriend at the time had a gun there
is a good chance she’d be alive today, explain that to me too,
please?

They haven’t gone as far as posting “NO GUNS”
signs on the doors.
But with all the crap that’s going on, and building
up, yeah, I’m going to start carrying in church.

In Texas is completely legal to carry so long as the Church leadership
publicly says it is. Many years ago when I was working armed security,
I had a Catholic Church as my post. It seems a couple of armed men
got into a chapel where people were praying over the host and robbed
them at gunpoint! How depraved does a person have to be to rob a
group on people in a chapel – PRAYING!? I’m not Catholic but it bothered
me to learn why I was there.
Funny story. I lost that post because I had to have surgery on one of my
knees and they needed coverage while I was out. Anyhow I saw the
priest, told him about my surgery the next morning and that some other
guy would be taking over the post. He said a prayer over me, rubbed
some sort of oil on my forehead and told me to say 10 Our-Fathers (what
Protestants know as the “Lord’s Prayer”). I dutifully said the Lord’s Prayer
10 times even though my understanding of ultimate reality does not allow
for such things. Anyhow I had the surgery the next morning and everything
went well. Now I’ve been cut on more times than I like to think about and
every time – every last time – I have experienced some sort of complication.
Some complications were minor and others major but I ALWAYS
experienced some sort of complication after getting cut on. Except that
time! Absolutely zero complications after that surgery. I cannot explain it
but something was different about that surgery. Almost made me
consider converting to Catholicism.

Statistics back you up. IMO it’s just being reminded other people care about
you that makes the difference.
I don’t know how to fix the USA. I have never seen places like that
you described. I do know about Australia f.e. who made stronger gun
laws and how the violent crimes went down after that. The violent
crime rate is down to european levels.

Having read Michael’s comments over several days, I think
it’s safe to say, as they sometimes put it in the south:
“He ain’t from around here, eh?”
Norway or Sweden, I think. He might even be a Muslim.

I am not from USA, thats for sure. I am not a muslim, my parents are catholic.
I was drawn to the Bundeswehr and served my time.
I did work in a muslim country for many years.
There are some muslims in my country since people from Turkey were invited
to work in germany in the 1960s. They came mostly from rural areas and are
often quite faithful muslims. But its the third or fourth generation now and most
of them are not that interested in religion – looks like the local culture got some
impact. Later some muslims came from arabic speaking countries but they dont
have much influence to the general society nor to the people with turkish origin.
Some years ago many people came from Syria, Irak and Afghanistan and i dont
see much impact on society except for some bigger cities. The head doctor who
did the surgery for my wifes new knee is from egypt, the orthopedist in the ReHa
clinic from syria. Took him lots of effort to get his profession acknowledged.
There are days like Christmas or Easter in muslim religion too.
When i was young the catholic fasting time of 40 days before Easter started after Karneval.
So fridays only fish, no sweets or alcohol and all that. Christmas and Easter are celebrated
by almost everybody, its part of the culture. Similar with the muslims and their fasting time
called Ramadan. They dont eat during the day but in nighttime, and they have their own
important days to celebrate. In some city areas they all make Christmas presents and presents
for Eid Kabir (breaking fasting or the sugar feast). In other places it is more separated.
Usually the poorer areas.
There are girls who cover their hair even though its not custom in their families.
Often its teenage interest in religion or typical protest towards the parents.
Few get brainwashed from anti social media. some even went to Syria or Irak to
join the IS. When they come back and found they face some trial at court.
My wife and I knew many Turkish people in Germany. Great people, as long as you
understood that their ways were different than German and American ways.
Her favorite doctor in the emergency room where she worked (German hospital)
was Turkish, our families were frequent guests in each others’ homes.
One of the reasons we both admired him so was his personal courage… He stayed
with her and fought when a drug-crazed lunatic tried to destroy the ER.
Everyone else ran and hid.
The Muslim terrorists are thinking that the people in Jerico
are like the people in the USA pre-fall, thinking the police
“will save them from the nasty criminals” when that NEVER
works in RL, they show up, count bodies, ask questions of
the survivors, report and go back to their coffee and donuts.
It’s become a serious problem and I think it’s time for some
serious action, they seem to breed like rats, so it’s time to
apply some “rat poison”.

A group with response time greater then single digit seconds are not “protection”.
Cleanup, suppression, revenge, incarcerate, …, all reactive positions. Maybe a
deterrence for some classes of miscreant. During the critical opening stage of
an assault, the only help you can rely on is yourself. Disengage if possible, else
the best defense is a lethal offense.
That i agree on. Not for each event getting away or lethal offense is possible
though. Remember the Las Vegas shooting. Random firing in the general direction
of the Casino building did not do anything.
