Hi all, I am now back again. The gall bladder removal didn’t
go quite as well as expected. Swollen liver for almost a week
and then picked up severe case of diarrhea despite feeling
fine. All okay now and back home so now to go through all
the comics I have missed (not just TGW)

Welcome back! Yeah they can go off the SOP, mine was because of
scaring from the cancer surgery back in ’04, they told me my insides
looked like cob-webs. Which means they took everything out of me,
fondled it suggestively, and stuffed it back in before getting caught!
HEH! They were looking for tumors actually, but it sure didn’t feel
like it when I woke up. Post-op infection?

Glad the cholecystectomy went as well as it did.
I’m sure you were miserable for the time.
Hope the rest of your recovery goes well.

It’s rough, I understand how you’re feeling, but trust me,
before you know it, it’ll all be a bad memory. The purple
scars will too, I can barely see mine anymore.

It depends on if these ships are carrying messages or
warning to either ship. it could also be that the core
mining folk decided to check up on the Laporidae’s
activities and if it was safe to restart mining.
      Only PC knows…

I’m glad those two got what was coming to them for trying to be a CO’s snitch,
which makes them less trustworthy than a pissed off bull! Sounds like they are
    going to a place not unlike a yak’s backside, behind it’s dingle-berrys 😉

Well either it’s a friendly with bad news, or a back-up for the ships that
started this mess. I can’t help but wonder what the excuse was for attacking
Capt Te’gin ship in the first place. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s not
“punishment” for defending the Dog’s ambassador, and the Pride’s escape…
tiny minded bulling by those who think they have the right to do it.

Well, I just got the replacement drives from Western Digital.
I swear, of all the companies I’ve dealt with on warranty service,
(*cough* Seagate *cough*) Western Digital customer service
is the easiest to work with.
Not to mention the discount they’ll give you on request…
In my computers, since 2016, I’ve used 16 WD HDDs and SSDs,
and seven external USB HDDs and this is the first failure.
And I use Sandisk memory cards exclusively in my cameras
    because they’ve never failed me.
Yes, I’m plugging WD. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think they were
the best option for data storage.

A certain batch of Seagate drives we used at my workplace
was nick-named by us “Sie geht oder sie geht nicht”
(“It either works or it doesn’t”)
because of the high probability of having to replace them.

(“Sie geht” sounds a bit like “Seagate”)

I will pick a brand and stick with it as long as everything goes smoothly.
That was Seagate until I filed a warranty claim on a one-year-old external
hard drive. They never even had me send it back for examination, they
just refused to honor the warranty, saying that I must have mishandled it.
        Without even looking at it!
That was back in 2016, it’s been Western Digital ever since.

I lost a lot of faith in Seagate when I had bought a nice new 10 gig
some years back. I hooked it up, did all the transfers I needed to do,
and it had a cascade sector failure! Oh I was pissed, I went back to
Best Buy, they refused to return it and told me to contact Seagate.
After multiple calls and voice-mail tag I was told that I had
mis-installed it some how and they wouldn’t replace it. this went on
over weeks and only thing I could do was report it to the BBB and
even they couldn’t do much. So yeah no more Seagate for me.

One of my hats was desktop support when the Compaq Bigfoot disks all decided to die
within a few months of each other. Compaq knew it was a problem, our management
knew it was a problem, but could we get approval for proactive replacements? HA HA HA!
Instead of a scheduled hour of user down time, it was 3 days from each failure report,
submit warranty request, receive part, replace, tell user local data was lost (they were
supposed to keep all company data on the company file servers), refer complaints
      to supervisor.

It’s good that Marise (nice name BTW) is getting a glimpse

It’s not all just traveling hither and yon,

There’s danger and the possibility of injury and death.

“Three systems away”. Presumably meaning three wormhole transits. I
wonder just how extensive Lamia’s “empire” is. And if the “Northern
Worlds” and “Southern Worlds” division from Catia’s point of view, as
they are accessed from two different wormholes there, or the various
human worlds see the same division. Even though the Humans are
clearly multiple sovereign political entities (BEFORE the Terrans showed
up) they only get one seat and vote in the Council — that’s by species
not political entity — and Lamia apparently arrogated the right to provide
it, although I guess it COULD be they just hold it for now and it’s
governed by some agreement between the human worlds.

I was doing a re-read and ran across the chapter when Taritha was about to
leave P’tero and they were saying something about going around the fringe
worlds in the other direction, so maybe it’s them? They did say the first ship
came through and went to stealth right away and now a second that isn’t
cloaking. If I’m right there will be a third ship that cloaks.

I was going to speculate that Kima just failed to mention these ships were coming
through the OTHER wormhole, not the one the Ptera and bogeys used. I thought I
remembered there being two. Which would increase your odds of being right, Scar.
But looking back hurriedly, I don’t find that. Must have been an earlier story.

That’s the problem with not formalizing contracts in a well defined form.

Legally (I guess it’s pretty much the same in Canada or the US too) you
can accept a contract by just shaking hands or even nodding. Both sides
just have to agree on whatever terms should be part of the deal.

But if it’s something complicated or long term or of great value,
you better be very clear about what both sides are agreeing to
and have a written, formal contract.

I wasn’t present in that court room.

A thumb-up emoji can be easily be considered to signal a “yes” of sorts.

Depending on the finer context that might be interpreted in various
        different ways.

What I get from the article, is that both sides historically did things
in a pretty similar way: having a phone conversation after which one
side sent a already talked about list of conditions and the other one
just replying with a short textual confirmation.

        Quote:
“One of the qualifiers is that in the past, these two companies had settled
on contracts *in a similar fashion*, where the image was sent over, and the
people at Achter responded with a text – using words in effect saying things
looked good – and the delivery was fulfilled.”

So the judge had to decide whether “looks good” is more binding than a
        :thumbs-up:

Furthermore: if the emoji really was meant to say: “I got your proposal,
but I don’t have the time to check it at the moment” … shouldn’t they
have provided a follow-up a few days later?

Bottom line: both sides would’ve been better off if they had
used little more formality in their previous dealings.

Ah, yes. What you “heard” is not always what you thought you heard.

It was about 1984 or 85, and I ended up on a jury for a grand theft
trial. The suspect’s job was to buy and sell used logging equipment
for his employer. He had been trying to sell a particularly large
piece of equipment, and eventually sold it to an acquaintance, who
gave a post-dated check. No problem, the equipment wasn’t going
anywhere till the check cleared. Before it cleared though, someone
to whom the equipment had previously been offered but turned down
decided he had to have it and contacted the suspect. They settled
on a price, but the suspect told the new buyer that the check needed
to be made to the acquaintance who had written the post-dated check.
Fine. He didn’t care so long as he got the equipment.

The suspect had accounts at two different banks. One was his normal
account. The other contained the proceeds from what the suspect
said was a business transaction regarding an unrelated piece of
equipment he co-owned with the acquaintance from above. The
investigator thought it was proceeds from the alleged theft.

The DA’s investigator, in a recorded phone conversation, asked him
this question about his First Interstate bank account:
“So that’s the only account you have there, at First Interstate?”

          The suspect answered: “Yes.”

The investigator thought he’d just caught the suspect in a lie,
and ultimately the entire week-long trial hung on that question
          and that answer.

The investigator thought his question would be interpreted like this:
“So that’s the only account you have ANYWHERE, THE ONE there at
First Interstate?”, as that’s how he heard it in his head.

But the suspect heard it like this, and responded truthfully:
“So that’s the only account you have there at First Interstate,
          THE ONE WE’RE TALKING ABOUT?”

We found the suspect not guilty, because the DA failed to prove his case.

If I’m right, this will be ideal, the Prime Alpha can meet with Taritha,
and hopefully hammer out the details and maybe even get them to
join up! It’ll be a huge help for the Laporidae if they do, the Empire
won’t hesitate to send aid to clean up the mess the core bunch did.

Plus having a non-human doing the talking that is from the human’s
slave race, I’m sure will have an impact on how the bunnies will see
things, or at least aid in their thoughts. Or how the guy’s are Terran,
not humans. I’m sure Kima’s comment to Marise about the Terrans
being a minority in the navy will help too. I think her love of the stars
would make her a good navigator at least.
