But he is NOT invisible? 😉

He does look different from Jimmie Stewart’s.
      Reckon he’s over 6′ tall?

Never know Jan, they may have a natural ability to “blend in”.
They may of been in that lagoon the whole time!

Rabbits? What do you figure is their favorite dance?

“The Stomp”?I had gotten a pet rabbit for my wife early on, and
when she got pissed or upset she’d stamp her foot, pretty loud.
      Like a pissed-off toddler.

HAW HA HA HAW (cough choke) Rabbits named Harvey? Oh wow that got me!
(dammit gotta wipe down my monitor again!) VERY good one PC!! His mate looks
cute, so they might look mainly human, but the jokes! Wow I’m glad I’m not the
LT. there, I’d of been smerking and shaking trying to keep a straight face the
whole time… Oh no, I just had an awful thought, the “furries” on earth will go
totally bonkers over this new race. Clearly they were just another “lessor race”
that got (again) the short end of the stick from the core. That toxic waste alone
will wreck any hope for the area of the planet to easily to be usable again.
Maybe in time, but they may have to relocate if not leave the planet for a while
until the cleanup is done. If i know of anything mercury is a common thing to
use in strip mining. It’s been banned for decades on earth… mostly…

I’ll bite. A rabbit named “Frank”? “Harvey” I get.
Jimmie Stewart did a great job. But “Frank”?

Missed that one. Never much of a Jake Gyllenhaal fan.
From that clip and what I could read about the flick,
            I’m glad I missed it.

Ah, I seen the trailer clips on that one,
very creepy, and a hell loop story too.

      • Jochi
        June 10, 2023, 13:30 | #

I had to look that reference up. I concede myself out-triviaed.
Frank Fay played Harvey’s buddy Elwood in the original stage
production. Jimmy Stewart’s version was second.

        • Scarsdale
          June 10, 2023, 14:06 | #

Frank was in the movie Gary referenced, I never watched it,
it’s called Johnny Darko, he gets “killed” and relives the
events that could of happened/did happen before and after
          his “death”.

          • Jochi
            June 11, 2023, 16:16 | #

Yeah I saw that later. not only out-triviaed
            but snagged the wrong reference.

Hmm. Harvey is a pooka. Pikas are a sister family to the Leporids,
rabbits and hares. Coincidence? Yet another sapient species,
    name not given yet.

I get the impression Cissy is not used to being called “strong”,
or thinking of herself as such. But Cherry very neatly lays out
the argument she has proven herself so.

    • Scarsdale
      June 10, 2023, 13:46 | #

True, most women become a hooker do so to survive, and don’t
think of it being strong, just desperate. The few I met back home
(no I didn’t, I worked as the janitor at the “motel”) were like that,
always talking themselves down. Cissy was well on her way to
becoming a jaded, heartless, and depressed person like those
were. Gary, IN was like that, it would suck the life and heart out
      of people.

AND , by a twist of fate Eitha, figured out how to make the
    “Toxic”.
into a cheap distillate ‘long term stable’ reaction mass drive fuel.!

    • Scarsdale
      June 11, 2023, 02:19 | #

Heh, that would be a twist, I read a story (as a kid) that talked
about a scientist had built a rocket with a reactor that was designed
to use mercury as a “fuel”. the reactor would super heat the “fuel
and a spinning “sprinkler” would spin in the nozzle, causing a thrust.
of course radiation would be an issue, but it was barely touched on in
the story. It was “the first men on the moon”, It wasn’t until I was
an adult that I found out they made a movie on it,
a LOT different from the book.

      • Jochi
        June 11, 2023, 16:19 | #

That was a Heinlein, IIRC. No worries about heavy
metal pollution yet in those days, either.

        • Jochi
          June 11, 2023, 16:44 | #

I want to say Rocket Ship Galileo, but every source says it says
the rocket was propelled by boiling zinc, not mercury, which does
not match my vague memory. 40+ years is a long time.)

          • Scarsdale
            June 11, 2023, 23:36 | #

Now that I think about it, they couldn’t afford the mercury and
settled on zinc, even the dishes were made of it (bad idea, zinc
is toxic in the body) I’ll have to research it myself,
it’s been 50 years, give or take.

Very true, in the 60s and 70s lead was used for everything,
household pipes, paint, toothpaste tubes, etc… That’s how
I wound up with lead poisoning in ’72, my parents didn’t
know that was a thing much less myself I was 11 when I
started my bait and tackle business, I was 12 by time it
          made me sick.

I used to have a large paperback collection myself until
we moved and the moving van had a leaky roof…
And we drove through a rainstorm most of the 180 miles…

Whoever the rabbits are they at least at one point had a
    technological, hydrocarbon-based civilization. One wonders
what the core-worlders raped the rabbits’ world for. When
the Empire gets through uniting the fringe, the core-
worlders are going to find out the truth of the saying that
    “Payback is a bitch!”

    • Scarsdale
      June 11, 2023, 13:03 | #

No doubt they wanted something from the rabbits, they said “f* off”,
so they raped the planet and left them to their own “fate”. I’m
quite sure given the chance, they will not only join but help the
Empire greatly, plus add in more evidence that the core only harms
people/planets for their greed only. I’m betting they made the
planet so toxic even they abandoned it. A lake so big you can’t
see the far shore? Jeez… An inland sea more likely.

  7. Scarsdale
    June 11, 2023, 13:29 | #

Cherry is right Cissy, there is some autobiographies
out there telling how some pro had broken free of
their pimp and made a real life for themselves,
you could add your name to that list now!

  8. Scarsdale
    June 11, 2023, 13:44 | #

I’m sure the Empire could rig up tankers with those Pod ships
to drain those lakes and dump it into the sun or something.
Unless of course there’s something useful that crap can be
used for, VERY careful handling of course. It won’t be cheap
or easy but it will help those folk to recover. I just hope that
crap didn’t soak into the water table. That would be REALLY
    bad.

    • Jochi
      June 11, 2023, 16:23 | #

From Earth, at least, and using rocket propulsion,
it’s cheaper to throw stuff out of the solar system
than into the sun. How this world’s motion and
gravity drives change that remains to be seen.

      • Scarsdale
        June 11, 2023, 23:32 | #

True, you could run it above the atmosphere and let it burn up in reentry.
Or dump it on a planet that is hot enough to burn it on contact like Mercury
or Venus. Although there are some chemicals that are hard to get rid of,
like Phenol, it’s molecule is so small it can’t be boiled out of water, it
travels in the steam. Not knowing what it is and how to handle it safely is
a big issue, hazmat suits and careful chemical break down to identify it is
a must. I hope they find out who is responsible, this is VERY bad! That kind
of toxic waste could easily turn the entire planet a dead rock in space.
