Vatican? A theocracy?
A CATHOLIC theocracy?
If it’s run by Jesuits, there’s gonna be some head-butting.
Be interesting to see this “velvet glove vs iron fist”.
No, nonono…. He’s just talking about the undesirability of
having a small independent kingdom or city-state entirely
within the borders of the Empire, like the Vatican is with Italy.
For the record I got what Jon was saying immediately.
You cannot have small islands of “foreign soil” scattered
about your country. I think even having Indian reservations
be nominally independent is a bad idea. I do not see what
Jon is worried about.
It’s not like Imperial citizenship is so onerous.
Funny thing, it’s well known that the Vatican is a country by itself,
few know that it is technically a monarchy, even though it the Pope
in that regard is only mentioned as the ‘sovereign’
or head of the state.
The Pope is actually two offices in one person.
This distinction is important as in religious matters the pope
is infallible,
but not in worldly matters.
An to complicate the mess, the Pope is voted for by the Cardinals
which are chosen by the pope. Cardinals don’t have to be priests,
so if you look into history, don’t be surprised to note that the
one or other didn’t upheld a vow of chastity.
A CATHOLIC Kingdom… Oh jeez please please please let them
NOT be creationists! I have met a few, I had the urge to bang my
head against a wall or just a big rock after 15 minutes listening to
their BS. “The Earth is only 2000 years old, the devil planted those
dino skeletons to make us doubt our faith.” Oh please, take this,
and stand over there with the flat-Earthers… here’s your sign!
I’d say it’s fairly large fleet if they are so desperate for resources.
Not to mention that most of the core’s fleets have been moved to
train up to man them. 50 to 100 ships at least. Plus if they do the
normal basic training the core seems to be fond of it’s not going to
be overly dangerous, like the crew on the ships the Sparrow fought.
“All incoming missiles have been destroyed.”
“Then what’s that flashing?!?”
BOOM….
Scars – Not to worry, PC explained what was meant by Vatican.
It has nothing to do with any religion, any faith,
or lack thereof.
I’m not so sure the FTL fleet will be all that large.
Whatever fleet they may have had in mothballs (if any)
may not be functional after all these years.
And that one ship that had a chance to map the Catian
system only saw part of third fleet.
So, between a lack of abundant resources
(Oops! Those ships never came back from the bunny world.)
to either build new or upgrade their existing fleet;
a lack of knowledge about the empire’s fleet
(they only saw part of third fleet in the Catian system);
not knowing that the empire is on to them
(there goes the element of surprise);
a total lack of knowledge of the empire and how much
it encompasses; and finally relying on their
“We’re The Core – Do What We Say!” attitude,
I’d say they’ve underestimated not only the possibility
of it happening,
but just how bad of a posterior kicking they’re about to get.
Yeah, I seen that, but seeing that comment and the harm
that one small group of religious fanatics did, I cringed at
an entire kingdom of those types.
I was guessing at the size, but having ready ships and the
moth-balls ones are completely different, like rob said below,
it’s very costly to keep MB ships just sitting, more so to
bring them to combat ready. Since they won’t have the
much needed extra resources from the Buns, it’ll take
even longer to get them ready. I suspect they will be sent
a task force to see why they weren’t getting any, it’ll be
oh so funny when they show up and get knocked down.
ok,. PC’s perspective may be different.!
Mothballing. (mb): in the real world, mb is Very expensive,
it costs the US about $500m a year to maintain 50 ships at
3 yards.. also when put into storage, any an ALL useful tech
is stripped. no ‘bean counter’ would allow any of value to
be left..
reactivating.: IRW, it’s supposed to take 20 to 60 days..
but the best time so far (to Full Combat Ready, not just
“Seaworthy.”) has been 6 months.. and then there is training,
after 6 months inactive All techs have to be retrained.
and in every case of pulling a mb into service they had pull
retirees out of retirement to train the new guys on the mb
tech.. just one battleship for Desert Storm cost the US $100m
in refurbishing, and $50m in training..
and finally : CREW!.. contrary to ‘hollyweird’ you have to
have at least a minimal ‘combat crew’.. .. 5 people to run a
combat vessel is just not possible.!! move it yes, combat No.!
Just keeping the dust off of something in storage every 100 years
does not mean it will be useful. Over in reddit /hfy First Contact
by Ralts_Bloodthorne, an empire of bureaucrats left equipment in
storage for so long that atomic warheads decayed down to granite :}
Space ships have more to worry about than degraded assets,
while rust won’t be likely, even if the ships are vented,
they will be exposed to radiation and micro-meteors,
any materials onboard that aren’t intended to be exposed
long term to that environment will break down and need
replaced, even if it’s just the wiring insulation. Even if they
just remove the FTL drives and install them on current ships,
the systems will need repair and the ships themselves will
need some serious power upgrades.
This is clearly an act of desperation, not wisdom.
…and this is why temporal stasis fields need to be developed…
Only problem with such, is if you were to suspend something in
Time, you also have to suspend it in Space.
In short; what is suspended in Time becomes an anchor point in
Space. Meaning local Time/Space in the area will be very limited
in how much it can be distorted, before rupturing the Temporal
Stasis Field. Anything that would collide with a TSF, would get
ripped through at what ever relative velocity and direction that
the impacting object would have, while leaving the object in the
TSF unharmed. In short, they would be the ‘speed bumps’ of
the universe while limiting the velocity that the universe could
expand, due to proximity to other TSFs. In fact; A TSF would
likely act a whole lot like a black hole. The larger the mass
stored in A TSF, the larger the relative size of TSF.
In fact, galactic center black holes COULD be TSFs! That is,
if one Could create a TSF without destroying the object or objects
stored in them, and be able to retrieve them when needed.
That is; if one could create Temporal/Spatial Stasis Fields.
To do something like that, you’d have to have a pretty good
grasp on Quantum Physics and Gravitational Physics.
Wow, this whole train of thought has
given me one devil of a headache!
I think it’s a camera, like the ones the Wolf-pak
wore when they headed out oh so long ago. Clips
over the ear, ear plug, mic, and full video. For
the records and for calling down help if needed.
and jus sayin… Fleet admiral, there are at least 3 staff/enlisted
awake an ready 24/7 with them all the time..
who do you think got breakfast, or told them what room it’s in.
IF they had to make a command decision Right now,
one of the “staff” would go an tell, what needed to be done.
the staff may be out of sight, just around the corner,
or in the next room..
but never far away that they wont hear a call.!
I’ve been cleaning out old emails from my email client.
I try to erase/delete 5 days worth per day.
I am not back before Trump went on the TV to tell us

Only 30,995 to go! (I let a lot of stuff pile up.)
By my reckoning the world we knew ended right about
super time 11 March, 2020.
I know I said there’d be music this week, sorry. Monday.
I expect to receive flack for the top conversation.
