Was thinking the same thing m’self. Good to know that
word of the unofficial alliance between P’tera and the
Empire has been circulated among both fleets.
You have time and there are other allied species
with martial inclinations, e.g. the Dogishuans.
And it is still heavily reminiscent anyway.
“No, no, the Terries are only one KIND of Impie.”
Hmmm… kill one and take the rest captive, kill all and sort it out,
or encircle all and start the process of bringing them to the
Xanadu Court for treaty violation… interesting…
This just might be ugly no matter what.
I doubt Sparrow is the only ship close by. Or the Toby’s could
disable their engines.
That would be a more devastating weapons tech than anything else, a way to
“shut off” an attacker for precious seconds during active combat? WOW, just
wow….
That could easily more effective in an all our war than FTL! My mind boggles
with the tactics of such a weapon…
You’re doing better than I am. You left it where you could see it.
I poured a cup of coffee from yesterday’s pot this morning.
I gave up looking for it and poured another.
Opened the microwave and there was my first cup.
Years ago I was walking down the hall at work to get a fresh
cup of coffee. A coworker asked me for help, so I set my cup
down on the top of the file cabinets in the main hallway and
joined him in his office. Solved the problem, and went back
to my office and continued working. The next day I wanted
some coffee, and wondered where my cup was. Went looking
and yep, right there in plain sight on top the filing cabinets.
You are not the only one, I’ve done that on many occasions
In fact I have done it so often that if a cuppa goes missing
the microwave is now one of the first few places I look in.
The only difference is I drink tea – I can’t stand coffee!
Heh, I bought a rare soda saturday and set it on the
ground while I was dumping a bucket of feed to the
heifer in the birthing pen and walked away…
Found it still sitting there yesterday…
This getting old is gettin’ ole!
It really is how the Empire wants to handle the enviable conflict,
all out war, or use their well-known manipulational skills, either
way I feel an all out combat could trigger far worse. Put them on
the defensive, force their actions into the light and judgement of
the public and council could do more harm to the core corporations
than just fighting them by their plans. If the core has to explain
themselves, they can’t legally and they’ll get toted up by their
own hubris. And they just attacked a core member for no good
reason; BIG mistake. No doubt they thought they could “send a
message” to the P’tera without witnesses…. WRONG!
And that is when the core will reject the mutual species protection
treaty. Some interesting questions;
Do the core also have its own version of the Worm Hole Breaker vessels
Do they have a fleet of FTL ships hidden somewhere
Does either side have an answer to either/both questions
What would happen if two ships simultaneously
entered a wormhole from opposite sides
Destroy both ships
Stop both ships (probably intermingled)
in the middle thus blocking the wormhole
Destroy the wormhole so a/ nothing is left;
b/ creates one or more new wormholes leading to who knows where.
Is there a way of creating wormholes on demand so a fleet of warships
could arrive simultaneously without needing an FTL drive.
Only PC knows the answers, but it looks like she will reveal some of them soon.
Occasionally I hit two keys and both register (which isn’t supposed
to be possible) I also get double entries occasionally when a key
registers as i push it down and registers again when I let go. It
happens so quickly I suspect the anti-bounce feature hasn’t worked.
That also isn’t supposed to be possible.
Then there is the occasional phantom keystroke where
a letter just appears to come from nowhere.
Another thing that isn’t supposed to be possible.
But the most common source of not so occasional
errors is the plain old mistype!
And that is very possible.
PC is a he. I made the same mistake when I joined our merry band heh.
The core are bullies that don’t know how to handle an Empire the
scope of the Wolf Empire. They are using the same tactics they have
used with the “primitives” time and time again, only the Empire are
not and they don’t have a clue as to how to deal with them.
The Imperial fleet commanders have them pretty much figured out
(more or less) and this is just the standard attempt to “remind”
the P’tera who’s “boss” in the known universe.
They refuse to get it into their heads,
the old tricks won’t work anymore!
If they throw out the treaty how many of the fringe worlds attack
the core? Add in the humans and it’ll get ugly VERY fast! The
core needs the treaty badly, they’ll drag everyone into court
until they discover it might not work anymore! Once more and
more of the races either join or support the Wolf Empire, they
will quickly lose what power they had in the courts and the council.
I doubt the core ever considered the idea, they’d rather use what’s worked
for them in the past; shielding and terror.
FTL is a big question that PC has yet to bring up again, if the core has it, it’s
been many, many years and have no doubt moth-balled the fleet(s) simply
because they weren’t needed and were costly to maintain.
The wormholes have traffic control bases near the wormholes to monitor
the busy ones, plus the wormhole “flare” when another ship entered either
side. I’m sure it has happened at some point, which is why Xanadu has traffic
control stations on both sides of each wormhole in the systems.
A wormhole generator would be the simplest way but again, very costly to
run and maintain while a shielded dreadnought can handle anything “primitives”
could throw at them. Or so they think…
Heh, sounds like his sister’s been wanting Alex to meet up
with someone for a while! I’ve been curious about her too.
I expected nothing less from the P’tera, fight as long
as you can, but don’t turn down help when needed.
“Impies” 😉
Makes the universe feel lived-in if the
various people have nicknames for each other.
In the Retief stories, Keith Laumer had a
lot of aliens refer to Terrans as “Terries”.
Was thinking the same thing m’self. Good to know that
word of the unofficial alliance between P’tera and the
Empire has been circulated among both fleets.
Damn. I wish I’d remembered that.
It would have made a nice homage to one of my favorite authors.

“No, no, the Terries are only one KIND of Impie.”
Good point.
As long as the pet names aren’t derogatory,
I’d think most would catch on pretty fast.
Just so long as the Terran’s aren’t called the dirties! HEH.
😀

um,, Yes they “could”.!

..panels 5,6, an 7…
That was what I was referring to Rob, I just re-read that story line 🙂
I was checking the android lore to be honest 😉
Too bad they can’t figure out how to induce the Wormhole
Transition Effect on the crews of the ships remotely.
Sort of a temporary EMP for organic brains…
Possibly “haven’t yet” rather than “can’t”. Or at least the Empire hasn’t.
That could be bad in a Core World’s hands (or tentacles or whatever).

“shut off” an attacker for precious seconds during active combat? WOW, just

*all OUT war*
where did I leave my coffee…
Jeez… poured a cup and left it on the counter…
You’re doing better than I am. You left it where you could see it.

So glad I’m not the only one who does that.

SHE???
You’ve gone from keystrokes that don’t register
to phantom keystrokes in just two comments.

As long as we have men like this, all is not lost in America:

True Hero’s in any sense! I hope they get some recognition for it.
Other than just a short story on page 36 of the local paper…
