Having seen the future (my second time through these pages, first on this site) I know how this law affects a few impending story lines. But a more logical law would have been to make all such titles non-hereditary, up to and including emperor. Exceptional parents TEND to produce exceptional children, so having one or more parent holding a title would make it more likely that a child would prove worthy of ennobling, adding to the effect of just being born into the attention of the right people, but someone with too many debilitating recessives popping up is unlikely to earn a title. And technically, “Lady” or “Duke” makes you a noble, “Dame” is the equivalent of “Sir” and raises you to the Gentry. To be a Royal, you have to at least be an Archduke or Prince (or the feminine equivalents).
Royalty is not hereditary in the Dragon Empire, neither are titles.
Nobility, royalty, the various rules… Heh-heh…We stopped following European rules sometime around 1776 or so.
