Good Lawd, really? Dean, the only reason someone isn’t slapping you
numb right now is you don’t exist! The whole “You may begin to beg
now” makes ME want to dribble his skull along that desk! PC, this
guy has to have the worst case of “Karen-isum” I’ve seen so far.
I hope the board gets disbanded over this crap.
Good pay for good work, building up and having a nice little profit
to pay to their bosses by the end, and a good taste of what a REAL
government feels like. The core WILL learn what the Empire is about,
whether they want to or not!
I thought it was “Kevin” but no matter, anyone like that
gets the tiniest amount of power, they go mad with it.
My own mother almost straggled a clerk at the building
commission for this very reason. A 5′ tall, heavy set
woman in her late 60’s driving across a counter….
I guess it made an impression, they did get the building
permit…
Miss Lizzard is the only one that has a clue.
At least to my thinking. Look at her grin.
The bunnies are right it is easier and
cheaper to let them rule themselves.

“Is it self interest or just the Imperial way of doing things?”
It is both. Enlightened self interest is the core of how the
Empire does things. Nearly 40 years ago I constructed an
entire ethos out of enlightened sloth and self interest. It
really is simple. In this case the Empire knows that you
get more and higher quality work out of hired help than
from slaves. One wonders how many more wonder
weapons the Germans might have been able to produce
if they had paid the workers in their factories a living
wage instead of employing slave labor. I suppose it was
a good thing for Britain that they didn’t.
I could make up a copy of the Wolf Empire flag if anyone wanted
to use it as wallpaper. Currently the flag has 10 stars although
I would want to slightly rearrange the stars.
Here is an 8-star flag I made for PC in ’20. https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/wolf-flag-EG1-888315008
If someone wants it we’ll have to figure out a way to transmit it.
I could always post it here as a bonus page. People could download
it and resize it to suit their monitors.
Mine is Amillu dancing with two blades, of course I have my monitor
pivoted to portrait mode so she fits.
I’ve been working on PC’s space freighter for a while now. I
actually have useable cargo pods made and an interesting
lattice work frame for a spine. The thing I don’t like about the
models I’ve made is that they are really low poly and that
can equate to lower visual quality. I DLed a free model of a
flying saucer the other day and when I imported it into my
3D modeler I was shocked at how many polys it had. I think
I know how to enrich my models to more resemble that free
model. I’m going to experiment and see if I cannot make
my models richer in detail.
You could up the level of polys just by adding surface details,
like a framework on the outside of the container, to add structural
strengthening. I’m thinking the pods were a frame that had the
gaps filled in rather than a box inside the framework. That way
it’s just a outline, not actual structure. Like the tiny flowers
I added to the flower pots I printed for my sister.
Actually the pods are a properly sized hexagon extruded in the Z dimension.
To produce the illusion of structure I used Anim8or’s “extrude faces connected
command to inset all but the ends and middle faces leaving the illusion of
structure. For longwise frame elements I made another smaller hexagon
modified it and extruded it to the length needed. Then I rotated those “beams”
as needed in increments of 60 degrees. I think the result is usable. https://www.deviantart.com/bmullins3/art/Cargo-Pod-Long-993380519
The problem is what sort of surface details to add to an industrial object
to make it look “real”. Note the black dots on the “frame” are coupling
points per PC.
Give me a list, and I’ll see what I can do, My Ender is being a bitch.
I fix one issue and another pops up.
The Soval seems to be good to go, in my rush to get it fixed I forgot
to re-tram the Z axis so I had to redo the Z-offset as well. This week’s
been crazy, I had 3 doc appts., my father needed one ASAP because
of a chest cold, and tmw I have to take my wife to see her breathing
doc. I’ve been running on fumes…
Well, there’s already the 70mm fan duct…
I have a top-mounted 90mm fan that’s outside of the case,
I need a cover for it….
And a couple of stands for big Western Digital external drives
that I can mount a 40mm fan in and a wire cloth filter…
I’ll send you some sketches.
ARGH!… Damn thing is still over-extruding! Calibrating a direct-drive
extruder is damned tricky…
I found a printable stand that holds up to 4 – 3.5 HDD, I’ll D/L it and
see how to mod it for the fans for you. I picked up a 2kg roll of white
nylon and another 200 gram roll of black, I’ve got a neighbor asking
for cow fence insulators as well. THAT’s a big ask, But at this rate, the
Carbon X1 is starting to look worth it if I keep getting big orders…
Only $1200…
It’s sharp-edged, but it’s not a WD, it’s a scandisk
so it sits basically on it’s side from your picture.
My other is a WD, but it’s a tiny laptop model.
I was wrong, they aren’t 2 and 4 gig, they are
terabyte.
Harvey’s “a government on the Imperial model and Imperial law” stops short of
saying they would be citizens or PART of the Empire, merely compatible. His “as
all Imperial governments do” could be interpreted either way, but for now I will
assume he’s just saying this hypothetical government would “do things our way”,
not “will be part of us”. At the very least, however, the execs and workers will
as others have said get a taste for what it would be like to live as part of the
Empire, which they will take home with them if and when they go home. And
one government for three species (we know of) in an enclave on a fourth
species’ home world. This will complicate the simplistic one species, one world,
one government model so far in place off-Terra within the Empire.
That’s what I mentioned, Harvey wants them to use Imperial laws
to govern themselves with, it is the law of the planet anyway. And it
will give them a solid taste of Imperial life under those laws!
It worked pretty well with the troops from Lamia, 8k out of over 9k
isn’t bad at all. each and every time someone finds out how little
the Imperials actually do to their people, the core looks less and
less appealing.
Wait until they find out that, in addition to their increased pay,
that there is no income or property tax. Just a single, 25% sales tax.
Local government (theirs) gets 10%, Kingdom gets 10%, and Empire gets 5%.
A pay increase, one tax, and they get to own and build on prime real estate.
25% sales tax is scary-sounding at first, but since it’s the ONLY
tax it would make saving more worth it. Plus the lack of income
tax makes investing much more profitable!
But for a while, until entrepreneurs start manufacturing
consumer goods, everything is going to be very expensive.
Consumer goods will have to all be imported. Even food
until they get the farms and food processing plants up
and running. Reckon how prepared they came to set up
an actual functioning colony.
How long after the classroom incident is the board
meeting taking place? It didn’t feel like Walker
had a lot of time to ‘re-educate’ the miscreant and
have the new version so deeply impress Miss Lizzard.
I suspect it wasn’t long after, Ms. Lizzard said “once you got that
garbage out of your head” kinda tells me he was on something that
drove him crazy. Mushrooms alone can make someone go off the rails
pretty easily. Now I wonder if it wasn’t something those 3 had
anything to do with? Something they are making cash on the side with?
Oh, it’s cult BS all right, a religion even. But….
You’ll see. And you’ll slap yourself on the forehead and exclaim:
“Damn! It was so obvious!”
…
Y’know, if we call the front of our head the “forehead”, why don’t
we call the back the “afthead”?
Or just the “backhead”. I just did a quick search and could find
no evidence for a term for the back of the head. Apparently
we don’t refer to it often enough to have developed a word
for it!
Who knows, I just thought it was funny that someone would bother.
I guess to make it look like it was just a coffee rather than an
expensive HDD and battery backup?? If you’re dumb enough to walk
away from your stuff, you deserve to lose it.
That’s not a very good idea. Western Digital drives are designed
to stand upright, with vents at the top and bottom for convection
cooling. Mounted on their sides like that, they would effectively have no airflow.
This is why I want a base for mine with a 40mm fan blowing upward
and space for a wire cloth air filter to keep the dust out. Heat
is the enemy of drives, both spinner and SSD.
I sent you an email with photos and a sketch of the external HDD mount.
The 40mm fan needs to be inside so the wire cloth filter will be
effective.
Wire cloth is pretty restrictive, that’s why the filter opening is so
large. And the filter is corrugated.
I forgot to add that if you can put some sort of protective grille in
the filter opening to protect the mesh, that would be great!
Not a big deal, I’m working on the stand now. I was hoping someone
had already made one, but nope. I take bits from other people for
either inspiration, or if I’m lucky someone else already made one like
it I can tweek.
coop companies or workers owned companies are quite the socialistic idea. in switzerland there is the coop, a cooperative of trading and retail. or the spanish mondragon one of the biggest corps in spain where the workers all share the company. Yup you’re right about the dean being a Karen or is it a Ken?
Either way he is a twit or the first degree.
He’s a typical bureaucrat. Do as I say, not as I do.
Because I said so, that’s why.
IIRC, a male “Karen” is a “Karl”.

Maybe put the stars for Terran kingdoms on one side
and those for extra-Terran kingdoms on the other?
Nah. All Kingdoms are equal.
Don’t want to divide them into Terran and Non-Terran.

Actually, I need a stand for one of these:
https://www.westerndigital.com/content/dam/store/en-us/assets/products/desktop/my-book-usb-3-0-hdd/featured/my-book-new-g2.jpg.wdthumb.1280.1280.webp
Well, two stands. I want to draw air through a 2X5″ wire cloth filter and
blow it up through the drive with the 40mm fan.
ah ok I have one of those myself, a 4 gig.
Is yours the sharp-edged one as shown, or the one with the rounded front
like a book?

I have two of each, but the book type are old and I don’t use them much.

You would be surprised how low poly that model is. Most of the
polys are the black dots with are actually small black cylinders.
