Suggestion for PC for future use. It occurs to me that the deleterous effects of wormhole transit might be
caused by the gravity gradient at the wormhole mouth interacting with whatever field is generated to
trigger the wormhole to open. Perhaps a way might be found to reduce or even eliminate the effects
of wormhole transit. I would be surprised if the Empire’s scientist didn’t figure out 1) exactly what
causes the ill effects and 2) a way, using the grav fields only the Empire can produce, to greatly diminish
or even eliminate the effects all together. The core worlds appear to me to be the type of people who,
having produced a usable solution to a given problem, are content to maintain status quo. Who knows
what species first developed the wormhole technology. Perhaps it was the same race who populated
Xanadu originally. The core worlders may not know enough about the technology to be able to do more
than just copy it. I would expect the Empire, on the other hand, to have studied the theoretical
underpinning of that technology with an eye towards improving it. The Empire has some very smart
people working in its research and r&d departments. I think the Empire’s scientists and technologists
could come up with a way tune the equipment to make wormhole travel less problematic. What do
you guys think? As always, Mr Stanley it is the Catman’s universe. I just had an idea that might give the
Empire an advantage in the coming war.

I had the same thought or just had another, no one has thought of before, to flip things
around and use the grav blocking coating to counter the effects? I’m thinking the wormholes
have a kind of “pocket universe” where all matter is everywhere at once.
That way the trip through is almost instantaneous, but it has the effect of scrambling atomic
forces (that we know of) in a mess that has to be returned to the normal state and it takes
a bit of time for the more delicate electrical, chemical, and such to recoup.
It’s like fighting a fire, fire needs air, fuel, and heat. Remove any of those and the fire dies out.
And so far we haven’t seen any evidence that any other race has grav tech, so maybe that’s
the magic bullet? Take away the gravity and it lessens or stops the scrambling effect? And
before anyone says “In space there is no gravity” that is wrong, the proper name for it is
“micro-gravity” everything has it’s own gravity field, just the smaller they are the weaker it is.
Gravity is everywhere and effects everything, who can say what a true non-gravity area
      could do?

no.. you are good, great minds think alike.

I think that is exactly what happened at least once in the
Core Worlds. Someone tried to find how to soften a transfer
and discovered the alternate way to travel faster than light.

Sadly the Empire won’t be using their biggest advantage
in that regard the Dragonflies. It would be interesting to
put some sensors on them to see what happens when
they teleport. I have the suspicion that this would bring
some interesting data that could be combined with that
from a Wormhole and how using them works..

Watch out, Alex. Someone’s crosshairs are centered on you.

I agree, the transfer effect could be caused by the ‘reassembly’ after being ‘disassembled’ through the
wormhole. It could also be an advanced form for motion sickness (as some experience when travelling
by for instance car/airplane/train) due to the somewhat aggressive gravity effects in the wormhole.
As usual ‘The Cat sayeth nothing’

Aww, now the comment systen ate my emoji-‘s – a ‘wink’ and a ‘big smile’…
I’ve seen some have luck adding emoji’s, how so?

Your best bet for emojis is to use the character combinations – “;” + “)” for 😉 (wink) or “:” + “)” for 🙂 (smile)
        Note: since there is neither an edit not a delete function I’m hoping the above works. {crossing fingers}

LOL good job, I spent some time as a moderator for
Microsoft’s chat client back in the ’90s I had to learn
most of those so I knew what was going on. It got
ugly during the hacker wars that plagued the servers,
between the egg-drop attacks and the MIRC service
denial floods we all had to have some very strong
counter measures in place. I had programmed mine
with a HAL pseudo AI so they would think it was a
            smart-mouthed user. 😉

Thanks, Bill. Thought of that – AFTER I pressed [Post comment] . Oh, well…

I hope PC adopts this idea. Imagine being a wormhole picket leisurely approaching a newly
emerged vessel which clearly made a fast transit; secure in the knowledge that you have
plenty of time to get the drop on the target when suddenly the “zapped” target fires a full
spread of missiles down your throat. Could ruin your whole day! Of course all that research
has been going on while the Pride has been on extended mission and the Pride won’t
receive the benefit of it until it returns to Catia for refit.

I love that idea, the grass-eater Captain wakes up to see a very angry-
looking Pride with a targeting laser lighting up his chest through the
window… and he didn’t put on his brown pants… 😛

I hope the Pride can make repairs and get on the
move quickly, If the core has a dreadnought close
by it could make the transit with shields up and they’d
have to make a hasty retreat. I doubt the one fighter
can be repaired in the wild but holes can be patched
but The Pride’s going to need some serious refitting
done. Here’s a thought, while they are at it they
could in stall the Pride’s AI and contain it in a anti-grav
box to see if my idea would work? Just a thought…

Crissy needs to move to the Empire, she’s never going to get a square deal
and acting as a plant/snitch/informant is not good for your life expectancy.
Sadly with her looks no one anywhere else will take her seriously like my sister.

My kid sister is 5′ nothing and basicly looks like Teresa, small, soft spoken
and treated like a 59 y/o child, even by her husband at times. She had the
highest IQ of the family and is a certified CPA and tax law consultant.
she had to retire at 53 simply because no one would accept her creds or hire
her after the place she was working at was sold off in pieces.

    Let me sum this up:
    She was a naval officer.
They forced her to become an escort.
And she is the favorite of the President.
Meanwhile a neighboring nation builds a space navy.

I need a word with the President’s security staff and
    their intelligence services.
That raises so many red flags that they would have
    to ration red flags.

    To quote Serenity:
“The minds behind every military, diplomatic and covert
operation in the galaxy, and you put them in a room
    with a psychic.”
    – The Operative

I guess I’ll add another quote:
“When you notice that an enemy is making an error,
take care not to interfere with the enemy from
completing it so you can take advantage at the right time.”
    – Attributed to the French Emperor Napoleon
