Bill, are you doing okay? Do you have power? Looking rough where you live.
You readers, I won’t specify, but Bill Mullins lives in Texas. Wish him the best.
Anyone else going through the fluffy white hell right now?
I’m having rain and mud here.
Same story here in Tulsa. -13 last night, and that’s Fahrenheit. Okies drive on snow and ice a LITTLE better than Texans. Rolling blackouts due to heavy load on electric lines. More snow tonight. But I’m at work.
We have power in my part of San Antonio but where my daughter’s house is they were out from yesterday (Monday) 0100 hours on. Don’t know the current status at her house at this time. There were some icy patches when I drove over and collected her and my grandchildren yesterday afternoon. Since there were icy patches and since the temp didn’t break 25 today, and since the road to her place crosses at least one bridge and one freeway overpass, the wife and I still have guests. It’s supposed to break 40 tomorrow (Wednsday) so I might be taking them home tomorrow. Might not be since their heat is out along with their water heater. Something to do with the pilot light. My daughter is now a single mom and my (soon to be) former son-in-law hasn’t bothered to unass child support despite my daughter having a court order. The asshole deadbeat’s ignoring a court order. Imagine that.
Sunday my son (who lives near Truth Or Consequences, NM) called us to tell us they were having a blizzard. My first thought was that I didn’t think they lived that close to a Dairy Queen. bah dum pum ching
Awesome stuff Catman – can’t place the music –
but I can relate to making a (sort of (it was a Birddog . . L-19)OK)) “screaming” dive for a rocket run.
Totally incredible cat-tactics! Cat-Pounce City !
Yeah ~ 63 years ago, but I am so “back-seating” Miral!
That and one had well better remember the envelope, especially with rocket pods on the wings – even if they were newly emptied.
Reckon Lady Miral has no such g-force worries with the incredible Wildcat !
I bet the CAF birds scatter like cockroaches with the lights flipped on.
I learned early, the faster you go, the harder you are to hit – even head on.
I used to fake being hit by an abrupt nose up, roll over onto my back, dropping thru and going vertical, aim, expend, and run like hell.

One field hospital critique . . . due to stuff going the be tracked into patient units, et al, of the hospital set, even with vestibules, long grass was reduced to stubble ASAP.
We discovered it was bad news in the mess areas as well.
(Yeah – at Desert Storm it was #$%@#%^ sand.
But I did get the “Front-seat an AH-1G Cobra then.
Yup – my hovering skills were “a bit” rusty. But I could still do the Miral dive.
Cobras were ominous sounding doing that.
😀
Keep well Bill. We have about 18″ of snow and an average of -15 C. Snow blower is earning its keep. Driving is not bad roads are pretty good, most are clear. I’m in Ontario between Toronto and Windsor so kind of in the snow belt. Hey winter is fun, darn cold but fun.
My grandson (the one currently staying with his grandma and I not the one currently in the ROK or the one in NM) is 10 now and this is his first snowfall. According to a youtube video titled something like “Orbits and Ice Ages” if it wasn’t for us evil humans I’d likely to have to be buying snow tires or chains like I did when I was stationed in Wichita, Ks back 74 – 79. Don’t know about anybody else but if the choice was between wearing short sleeved shirts in January and February and having winter sports in South Texas, I opt for the warm weather. Way I look at it the best way to see snow is a picture – preferably a painting. Next best place to see snow is on television, hopefully a sattelite feed. Worst way to see snow is through a windshield cause I’m probably the one driving. Mind you, I have no problem driving in such conditions. “Don’t do nothing quick.” is my rule. The problem is all those yahoos I have to share the road with. Ain’t a one of them got a.clue how to drive in the wet or slick. And that goes for folks living up north, too. You don’t do any better after your 1st snowfall than we do down here. Found that out in 83 when I went to Milwaukee the day after their first snow. Idjits were driving like they never saw snow before in their lives.
Bill – We got ~ 10 inches in Indy Monday PM/ Tues AM.
All the idiot drivers in Indy who forgot last winter’s lessons had to come out and get stuck while was trying to get the vaccination center for the 2d dose.
My 2008 CRV with 4WD just went around them as they sat – stuck.
Yup – the trusty Honda made the trip in exemplary style. Miral would be proud.

I asked my Rotorhead CWO3 while flying his Cobra bird –
If I could go over to look at the EPW camp the MPs had a few Klicks from Al Qaisumah, he said sure.
I had not been out of the hospital set while my RC counterpart was playing pony express because we were critically short of Priests to visit units scattered throughout Log Base Echo.
So I did . . . he said, “Damn Sir you like to look close”. Scattered several off their prayer rugs I did.
(I ran into several of the American officers of the camp later in MP USAR units in IN and IL who were there that day. they said they were glad I did not land as the Chinook did – (scattered tents about the area)
He, the CWO3, did fuss a little at me starting to fly his Cobra like I used to do 839.
He said, “Need to back off on the bank angles, sir – you just exceeded the war time limits.
What could I say but “Roger that Chief”.
I lost my two best CWO buddies to sudden cardiac death or stoke in ’99 and ’17.
Yeah Warrant officers are crazy, but if they survive being Wobblily Ones – the become really good people.
In RVN a few WO1s did some bad things at Tra Vinh’s airfield.
Bill – it is sad the real airplanes want to fly and their pilots are happy people.
Helicopters really do not – all the part arguing with each other – making their pilots into brooding and sullen misfits.
😀

Man, that’s rough. Take care of you and yours first, but keep us posted.
Thanks for asking all.

Man, I’m glad to hear that you and yours are okay!
I’m glad too. By and large Oklahoma is doing better than Texas about keeping the power on and the gas flowing. But we won’t thaw until Saturday.

Feel-good video of the day:
