This is in answer to Jochi from the previous comment section.
Actually, Sgt Kelly was thoroughly dead and gone from this comic when you mentioned a cave, which started me thinking
about what would happen if I let him live, then I realized that it would be the perfect lead-in to this story, which I’ve been
wanting to tell for a while.
It lets me explore Miral’s personality a bit, which is interesting.
So while your contribution to the story may have been a minor comment, it had a MAJOR impact on the storyline.

As far as running for President… Oh, HAIL no!
I would be destroyed within 24 hours of throwing my hat in the ring.
Just one example: I once worked in a child care center. Can you imagine how my opponents would use that, the unprovable accusations that would be made?
When I applied for my carry permit, the judge told me that the FBI didn’t send him a background check, they sent him a book.
Yeah, I’ve had a good life.
Now if you want to make me Emperor, and give me unlimited authority, go ahead.
You’d end up living in the Wolf World for real.
And I would immediately begin searching for a Teresa.

Or perhaps our story teller had an idea and simply changed the story. The “caved” comment was totally inappropriate and beyond the bounds of proper decorum. An apology is entirely in order.

I get the pun but, in light of the Catman’s response, I still consider the remark inappropriate and apology worthy.

Ah, Bill, I was deadpan humoring him.
              He’s known for bad puns.

If I have multiple postings which I am not seeing, please delete the extras. I can’t see some things I enter, and I can’t figure out why some appear and some don’t. Maybe the length?

Nope. Not seeing any. Not even in the “Waiting for moderation” list.

There can be no winner in a pun war.
              Everyone loses.

Had something posted, the smaller part of what I wanted to say. Foolishly tried to edit it to include the rest. The whole post disappeared, even though I deleted the newer stuff. Trying again.

Until I read this I didn’t think about how much the terrain in that valley reminded me of the Ozark Hills I grew up in. An undiscovered hidden cavern underneath a rock outcropping is more than believable, especially in a world that is less dense than Terra, but enough bigger to have about the same surface gravity.

I figured you’d be a hard sell, even without the reasons you cite. So, what we need is a stooge, Libertarian probably, who is amenable to listening to properly-selected advisors, of which Petercat is one.

OK, the issue is length, as best I can tell, and my last bit is too long. I’ll try to pare it down. Or break it up again.

Bell going to Barnwell makes me wonder. The Academy wasn’t cheap BEFORE The Fall, and I doubt it is MORE publicly supported now. I think I remember something about scholarships for exceptional students, but how does a student who is without means and new to Jerico and therefore without proven ability pay for it?

I’d be utterly gob smacked if Jon didn’t already know of AND HAVE IN MIND a way to fund her education. If nothing else there’s always some sort of work-study arrangements possible. Plus, if you lift the soul-crushing burden of excessive taxes off of an economy then things don’t have to be so expensive.

Example: I live in and pay property taxes to the school district with the HIGHEST TAX RATES in the county and yet the district consistently gets failing grades from the Texas Education Agency.

I’m sure you’re right about Jon and probably about the work-study. We saw the older kids who came over the mountains working.

I haven’t discussed the funding of Barnwell yet, have I? Or the school system?
        Coming up soon.

Loss of a leg is manageable, or in my case, loss of control. By time I returned
to work, my biggest problem was my knee had a habit of buckling if it got tired.
I couldn’t tell it was coming, so my doctor had me get this weird brace that had
a built-in spring, it would help my knee stay straight. Damn thing was hot and
needed washed often, but it allowed me to work with far less fear of falling at
a bad moment. Only down side was if I had to climb up on a machine I’d have
to not use my leg. It was a Very Bad Idea to release the spring tension, so I
    made do.
