    Yes, that’s Kelsie’s Colonel.

Had you given the commander’s rank before? “Not very intelligent”, maybe, but with a better grasp of honor than his general. Major Buttinsky just shorted out their last opportunity to learn what was going on in the Fleet.

I have to admit to being very curious about that evening gown. Especially after Anita’s comment implying she doesn’t appreciate the attention her cleavage gets her after wearing an outfit designed to draw attention to it. Or maybe she was just complaining about men who can’t seem to shift focus anywhere else. There is a world between not appreciating and appreciating nothing else.

What makes you think it’s an evening gown? She only said it’s an “outfit”. I think you’ll like it.
      What Commander?

The Major, complaining about ‘Merchant honor.’

btw the colonel who objected ought to get a role in events After everything goes down the tubes for this jerk. He’s the only one displaying common sense in that group.

          There’ll be a hint in TGW-484.

Pages 435 and 440. I found them while looking for where Kelsie had called him a colonel, and didn’t find that one.
Also, the fact that Kelsie, and by implication his wife, didn’t know about the other woman says his understanding of honor isn’t perfect either.
It is interesting that he may end up as the only survivor of the general’s staff, and that, looking back, Kelsie was neither vindictive nor concerned about him becoming an assassination target.

You’re right, I should have been more clear. She was referring to him by his position, not his rank. Commander is a rank in the Navy, not in the Army.
She’s still a bit fond of him, but the war is more important to her.
On his world, Lamia, honor is more… set by social rules? Having a mistress is okay. Not letting her know she’s a mistress is not okay.

That’s why I didn’t capitalize “commander”. I assumed (after your comment) it was a role and not a rank. Before that, I figured names for ranks on Lamia varied from what I was used to. They’re not even perfectly consistent among the current militaries of Earth. And yeah, I may have assumed falsely that he hadn’t told his wife about his mistress, but he clearly didn’t tell Kelsie about his wife. Even if STDs aren’t a big concern, honor demands all bed partners know about each other, and preferably approve of each other. IMHO.
