just a did you know.. newly knighted were usually given a colored belt (ours are blue) ,, to let the general populace know,, “hey that’s a knight.!” and the squires were usually red..
well @$$hat is showing his colors,, but thankfully not as a “collector”…
Ours are white, and in some areas spurs and a chain (think heavy necklace) are included. We use the same red belts for squires, usually. The problem for Teresa is that any such regalia is not currently protected by Imperial Law, and people who already have such belts would, I think, have the right to continue to use them, requiring social pressure to slowly eliminate their use.
I liked Rob’s answer yesterday, making Knights answerable only to the Emperor and enjoined to CONTINUE to mete out Justice, protect the weak, aid the helpless, rescue the oppressed. You might also consider making it either tradition or law that they be chosen only from common civilians, not the military, not the Legion, not the nobility. Else Kathy and Robert, and to a lesser extent Aaron, have already proven themselves.
Which makes me wonder: Is the Emperor (or one day Empress) answerable to anyone? Say, maybe a High Council? Or is the Emperor presumed, like the Pope, to be infallible? (and yes I know even the Pope isn’t ALWAYS infallible.)
The Empire can’t forbid anyone an article of clothing, but the Knights could copyright a symbol.
Perhaps a badge on a choker or something.
I do like the Judge Dredd comparison.
The current Emperor answers to no one, Teresa probably will. Maybe combine the ideas of Tom Kratman and Robert Heinlin.
Well, she does answer to her friends, her Guard, and her dragonfly, and as Mischa said, she understands duty.
@ Jochi: hum.. make the king / queen answerable to ,,, .. lets see how that turned out for the Queen of England.? oh wait figure head,, that gets blamed when council fails….
and she (Theresa) does answer to the people.. maybe not directly,, but she does consider them.. even in one of her statements, (not exact wording) “if you have a problem with one of the laws, as a majority, bring it before me an we’ll change it.!” ..
kinght,, warrior of the people.. so yeah i like that .. of the people by the people.. sooo.. the empress may not always have the peoples ear… but a knight does,,.
also IF a knight becomes corrupt.. (it’s possible.) 4 times the punishment.!
“The Way of the Cat”. I don’t know why that appeals to me.
I got the group purring idea from Jochi, I think.
But anyway, the Cats are pleased.

So I should do more?
