Colonel Gupta, eh? He’s advanced nicely
    through the ranks.

In the first set, the fleet in orbit is it the bait?
Are there hiding spots for more ships?
    Katrina could be in trouble.

Interesting, while the super-dreadnought might have the hardest punch, but
a fat pig waddles while the young, small ones can do more damage. The
cruisers are the main threat, The Daggers and Toby’s can handle those. The
real trick will be dodging the ship-killers while hitting the heavies and the
dreads. Those could be rendered helpless with a few Wilson mines in the
right places. Hmmm… Wilson mines stacked in a missile casing, to deploy
them once in range, dotting the target ships might be a “harmless” way
    to disable them. (squishy)

That assessment of the Howler fleet seems a bit……………………….. SMUG.

They could have a larger fleet hiding behind a planet for all they know…
Katrina isn’t that knowledgeable when it comes to space battles.

Agreed. What if the Howler fleet the Impies see isn’t the
entirety of the Howlers’ fleet? With (IIRC) FTL comm (and
much more experience employing it) they could easily co-
ordinate fleet movements across a system. Lots of empty
(and not so empty) volume in a star system to hide idling
warships. What if the Howlers had small picket ships out
at the periphery of the system and they picked up the Empire
fleet as soon as it inserted? FTL comm would ensure the
Howler command knew about it. What if the Howler home
world fleet was positioned and organized to make an in-
vader see what they want them to see? What if the ships
hiding and stealthed together with the visible fleet com-
prises a huge numerical superiority? Sometimes a huge,
powerful offense can provide a defense all its own. This
would be an opportunity for the Impies to get their noses
bloodied and to perform a withdrawal under fire (some-
thing I doubt they have practiced very much).

It would be interesting to see how word of the Empire’s first
real defeat affects the various worlds of the Imperium. I
see some worlds withdrawing in fear of reprisals from GC
and Core Worlds. It would spark the first truly existential
      crisis since the Empire’s birth.
