I just got in the last of the memory and storage drives.
These are the last computers I can build for people. Shit’s getting too expensive,
my customers (mostly art students) can’t afford them.
If I can buy used computers that I can salvage, maybe I can continue.
But things like graphics cards have to be too modern to be cheap.
Thanks for driving up prices, Data Centers. I hope the bubble bursts
soon and prices start back down.

The skyrocketing prices of memory and storage are going to hurt
everyone, that stuff is in everything from cell phones and automobiles
to washers and dryers. I’ll just keep fixing my dumb appliances, I guess.
Dumb appliances usually last longer
and are easier to repair.
If you’re handy with a wrench, a
screwdriver and a multimeter,
you’ve got 90% of repairs sussed.
It’s a lot harder these days, everything has gone
“smart” this and that, why would anyone want
their ice machine to have an app? Or the cat
auto-feeder? Screw zombies, I’m more worried
that the ice machine will blind me with ice spray,
then the cat feeder will dump all the food making
me stumble, followed by the fridge attacked me
with the doors like a weak sight-gag movie…

Good analogy, but my concern involves a AI-powered
hacker, not some weird external force that can’t be
explained. The real truck from the movie was a hunk
of junk, low budget thing. It’s been recreated. Even
Steven King complained about the movie not meeting
his vision.
Glad to hear he caved. That’s why I got out of building PC’s,
even 20 years ago the prices were climbing. You can blame
bit-coin mining for the GPU costs. People always want
high-end systems on a low-end budget. On the lighter side,
local gas prices had dropped from $3.49 to $2.39, and that
was a few days ago. It should start lowering shipping costs.
Almost the same it was when Sleepy Joe took over the show.

know that the Wolf Empire isn’t a dinky little empire, but one
that spans many worlds with many members and almost
endless resources. Letting the GC know that who you’ll be
protecting and why. With a portrait of each kingdom leader.
