I wouldn’t want the Cat’s metabolism, always hungry,
but when they eat they get sleepy. Glad the change-over
was fast, real world switch-outs takes hours.

Not too bad, but there was damage. Hopefully minor
causalities. Wilson mines? Are they shaped charges?

Remember that first test of the gravity amplifier? It ran away and
left a perfect hemispheric hole in the ground. (30M diameter, IIRC)
These are the same, only on purpose and more powerful.
Picture a dreadnought with a 100 meter or more diameter bite
taken out of it. Centered just above the command deck.

Actually, it wouldn’t even need to take a bite as such.
Just having a near point source of a couple of 1000
G’s roughly centered on the command deck would
be enough to turn every squishy thing within the con-
fines of the field the mine emits into goo. Depending
on how many G’s it put out, it might not even do all
that much damage to the ship’s structure. To me that
would be a much more desirable result than taking a
“bite” out of a ship. With power plant upgrades
(fusion to grav generator) the ships could be usable
or even salable. Think back to the days of sail when
they would capture an enemy’s ship, re-man it and
add it to the victor’s fleet.

Very true, anything over 50 G’s will kill a human/Terran,
so 100 g’s just to make sure. A short burst and off, so
only minor clean up. And the Empire has a new ship to
refit and press into service 😉

Mythbusters used these in many of their tests to prove fatality levels:

“Impact” or shock… is not extended over time…

              That’s my point, a sudden shock of 100 G’s
would end things quick while as you point
out it’s a great way to confine a ships crew
rather than making jelly bags. I’d rather pin
them down and give ’em a chance anyway,
but as many times the Bats have shown true
stupidity… And who knows what the remaining
core members are like, well, it’s good to have
              an option.

AH! Better than a shaped charge then. A gravitic mine.
Range, power level, even self resetting if needed. A
perfect trap mine. I can picture a thousand of those
in orbit around a protected planet, anything coming
near to a mine would trigger it or many of them and
they fly at a target and make anything inside need a
water hose and a strong stomach to clean up. “No
        pizza for me tonight!”

And of course, a basic shut-down code for an identified IFF or
          a command code signal.

i sed this way back,,, 10 grav, as not to kill,. but pins in place.
whoever is monitoring can come by and check… if refuse to
surrender then set it off… so that way if you Don’t have IFF
and are friendly you don’t get Ded..!

True, even with a grav-com light lag could
result in a very bad oops.

It was 80 meters, but I’m sure the range could be adjustable since then.
I’m guessing at least 20 years(?) since that faithful test.
        Strip time-wise of course.

i don’t think 20 years… since they were STILL in high school..
          17 plus 20 = would make them 37… 27 ,, maybe.!

I’m guessing, I wasn’t talking about from TGW-80 but from
the first “successful” test. Since the invention was an accident,
and in one strip one scientist said “I don’t really understand
it myself” when he was showing Viktor and Mistral the drive
and gun. I said that because they had to figure out what had
happened and why. So 5-10 years makes sense. Like Mistral
said “You want us to strap one on our ass and fly to the moon?!”
No doubt a LOT of time testing and tinkering was involved.

just sayin… Missy. at that time, she was known as Missy. 🙂
she didn’t go back to Mistral till after sworn in…

Heh, the last gal that I knew as “Missy” was
the most disrespectful, mean, and cruel
person I ever met. She was expelled from
my school system and 2 other’s last I heard.
Mine was I caught her bulling my kid sister
red-handed. I just pinned her face first to
a locker while asking if my sister was ok, then
had to explain why I was “bulling a girl” to
a teacher while the whole time “Missy” was
trying to break my hold, I had to laugh at her.
Dumb girl not only didn’t deny it, but bragged
that my sister needed a lesson in respect.
I still got detention out of it, didn’t care.

I think Missy was a spoiled rich girl, she called out “You
can’t do this! I’m a girl!” so I leaned in and said in her
ear with my most evil voice “it’s the ONLY reason you’re
                    still breathing!”
                    I swear I felt her shrink….

Ah yes… I was joking 😉 Every major city in every
state had problems like that, just with the black
panther riots and then the war riots, Gary was
“extra spicy” then many. A lot of pissed-off people.

I know that as “soup coma” or “after-meal coma”.
      More common with old people.

      Some more serious things.
Psychology of leaders and how they are prone to fall into traps.
Some examples how to avoid that except changing leaders regularly:

True, but RL cats sleep up to 20 hours a day, I know mine
crashes out every time she eats, even after I got a
programmable feeder. 4 small feeding a day. My father is
91, he gets up every morning, takes his pills, eats
breakfast, then sleeps until the afternoon. Same after
supper, I’ve had to wake him up after supper, sleeping
in his chair at the table.

I almost had to call 911, my son came bursting into our bedroom
telling me my father had fell, I ran in his room and sure enough
he had. The reason for it was he had an accident and slipped on
the mess and fell in it. I am NOT looking forward to the conversation
with the family about this. Luckily it seemed he hadn’t injured
himself, just his pride. I had to loan him some of my pants and
socks, he was out of clean clothes so I got to sterilize his bathroom
and get his dirty clothes rounded up, again.

Very true, I’ve already apologized to my son for what
he’ll have to deal with when my time comes heh.

Thanks to that ear infection I got a couple of years ago
was not only my inner ear was wrecked, but my
balance is screwed. Just a couple of days ago we
were joking around and he threatened to kick me in
the junk, so I did a nut-check at him. And almost fell,
luckily he was there and I had a death-grip on the
door knob. I’m glad we’re eating that a-hole bull,
I wouldn’t dare to face him like this.
